I'd love to get a book for the in-laws. As first time grandparents I'm sure they're excited and a LOT has changed since their days. Is there any books you'd recommend?

I don't know about books, but my mom got a cute little photo album that she could fill with pictures of my lo and stick in her purse to show off to everyone she sees. I think that's a good grandparent gift.

I can't recommend an actual book but when my daughter was a newborn we did a homemade photo album in the chronological order of her schedule. You'd see a picture of her sleeping, then a picture of a diaper change, then getting a bottle etc that way if they ever watched her even for an hour they would know what to do. Plus they got to see cute pictures of her. We update it every now and then if major changes happen to her schedule and we think her grandparents will be caring for her at all.

We announced to my in-laws by giving them Chicken Soup for the grandparents Soul. It was a fun moment

We bought this "handbook":
http://www.amazon.com/Grandparents-Handbook-Elizabeth-Laban/dp/1594744122
We gave it to my parents for Christmas and they loved it! It has cute illustrations and gives refresher on swaddling, diapering, etc as well as activities and things to do when the baby gets older.

I feel as if my parents or in laws would be offended if I gave them a book about how to be a grandparent... It seems a little condenscending

@cyndistar3: We wondered about that as well, but my parents absolutely loved it. They thought it was fun and since they haven't changed a diaper in 3 decades, that and some of the other refreshers were fun for them. But overall the tone of the book was fun, so I don't think they felt like we didn't think they knew what they were doing!
