@winniebee: ughhhh right? MIL invite us for dinner but will start cooking at 7-7:30....sorry that is just a no go

@MamaG: @FaithFertility: @Adira: @winniebee: Thanks for the support ladies Sorry about the vent. I feel so conflicted because I love sharing these experiences with my kids, but... it's hard. I really shouldn't even be complaining because my DH has been wonderful and my extended family members are very accommodating.
The nice thing is that things get more fun every year with Molly - makes me look forward to when Jack is a little older too.

@MrsF: yeah it's just hard! Even when relatives are helping it's hard to be out of routine with little ones. Definitely never a vacation! Ty is 3 and just now at the point where he is very little work on vacation. But then there's Ryan!

Fireworks?!?!??! What an awful invention.....lol j/k
But man they were going off well into the morning!
G move in her sleep I could see but no wake from them!
Kept me up though.......

@mrsf: i think it's especially hard when you go to places that were special to you as a kid because you have memories of it being so fun/relaxing/vacation-y. and not saying it can't be at least a little of that with kids (probably more fun and less relaxing!), but it's just different. plus, let's be honest, i think with babies & toddlers, a lot of "fun" things = 95% no-fun prep work and 5% fun!
we managed to have a really fun day yesterday. went to a little parade at vail, but totally over-prepared for the crowds & craziness: got there super early to get decent parking, commandeered a shady spot up front, took snacks, and even met up with friends. it went so smoothly! also, randomly, one of our babysitters sat right next to us so she entertained K the whole time -- win! came home to rest and then had people over for a low-key BBQ. friends with kids came earlier & left by 730, friends without kids came a bit later and stayed til 10. i do like going out, but entertaining at home is so much easier so you can just put the kids to bed and keep on hanging out! didn't get to see any fireworks, but i also didn't have any keep me awake at night. bonus to living in rural mountain area!!

Ughh G just fell backwards from sitting, on carpet, she didn't cry....
She is ok right?

@faithfertility: e has fallen over onto the hardwood a couple times when she had scooted to the edge of her mat. whoops! no worse for the wear
eggplant / 11861 posts
@KayKay: lol yeah G was ended off her mat on tile all apart of becoming mobile I guess
honeydew / 7283 posts
@winniebee: It definitely helpful to see that the big kids are easier on vacation - makes me have hope for the future (also makes me even more conflicted about the idea of having a 3rd!). Glad that T is at an easier stage
@KayKay: I absolutely agree with you that it's harder when it's in my "happy place". I want to experience these things with my kids as I remember them - but of course I'm remembering them from the magical kids' perspective rather than my mom's perspective! Now she gets to play with the kids - the tables have turned I think that the facebook and IG world that we live in makes things a little harder too. Everyone else is having such a perfect vacation / holidsy / whatever. Why am I having such a hard time?! Obviously it's the good moments that are posted...
Glad that you had fun at the parade! Sounds like a perfect scenario with your sitter being nearby. I'm sure you worked hard but it's great to have a fun day together.

@FaithFertility: Poor G I can't believe she didn't cry! J has definitely had some good bonks, but he always cries. Not much you can do to prevent it!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@MrsF: Nope she rolled on her tummy like....huh no biggie...I turned for a second to grab her toy...
Yep they are way to wiggle these days to prevent it all

@FaithFertility: ooh - great!
and thanks for the reminder! I had forgotten that the legs come off of our activity table. I'll have to get it down from the attic
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@KayKay: what a fun 4th! Enjoy your last month!!
@FaithFertility: aw Ryan has toppled over a bunch too. I still hover but occasionally I'm distracted
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
I think I'm going to sleep train Ryan, starting with naps. He has been waking 2x a night the past week and that's a lot considering he only sleeps 730-530. He only naps 30 mins unless we are in the car. I think starting today he is going down awake in his crib twice a day and I will leave him to sleep for one hour. If he wakes at the 30 min mark I will allow 30 mins of crying. He is chronically overtired, yawning all day, ready for a nap an hour after he wakes. He's 7m and enough is enough. He's a happy baby but I think he would be happier if he can connect his sleep cycles and stop cat napping. Wish me luck.

@winniebee: good luck! sounds like a good plan to help both of you out. e has been doing really well with 2 naps lately (830-10ish and 1-3ish), so i think we finally have some sort of routine....or at least something that is normal to compare the *off* days to! on the other hand, i feel more hamstrung by her schedule now. so there's that
eggplant / 11861 posts
@winniebee: awwww sorry! Sounds like a good plan! That is a very little amount of sleep, I know G hates her naps too but at least will do 45mins and sleep until 7-7:30 Today was 8 But after a 5 a.m. wake she went back down!
I hope this helps, it would be nice I'm sure form you for him to stay up longer through the day!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@KayKay: Our best days sleepiness are when she follows an almost 2-3-4 she has done so twice in the past week and her night sleep was great with it
pomelo / 5298 posts
@winniebee: good luck! We did some light training at night and it made a huge difference for us. We still haven't found a consistent groove for naps and I've given up for now.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
Well I had to help him go down a little more than I had hoped (20 straight mins of crying! So I picked him up and rocked him less than a minute and then he was settled enough to sleep when I put him back down). He slept an hour and 20 mins! Not holding my breath but at least he slept long enough so that he can have an after lunch nap and maybe it's just a 3 nap day! My other son only ever slept 10 hours at night until he went to one nap....so he had 3 naps probably til 8 months. I'm ok with that but we need some semblance of a routine!

@Adira: I'm 3 days late but yay for sitting!!
@MrsF: Sorry for the rough time on vaca, especially at the restaurant, that would be tough being the only one with kids.
@KayKay: Sounds like an awesome 4th! Score for being over-prepared and how convenient the sitter was there.
@FaithFertility: I'm glad we have extra-padded carpet, E takes quite a few tumbles but it doesn't faze him at all. Tough boy.
@winniebee: Good luck with sleep training!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@josina: maybe we do too....lol it's pretty soft I told DH and he told me she did it to him a few days prior and was not hurt at all.....lol

We had a great weekend, Field of Dreams + DH's family grill out + fireworks Friday, worked out well because E just slept on the hour drive, and then again on the way to/from the fireworks. He slept from 8:30 till 9:30 and was up in time to watch them. Saturday with my fam and parade, E was more excited by the notepads we got then the parade though. And back at my parent's farm he all of a sudden is afraid of kittens! It was so cute! I think its because they don't know enough yet to be afraid of him so they get a little too friendly.
I had my first shopping trip sans-baby yesterday which was soooo nice. And bought E a baby pool which he loves.
His bedtime definitely took a hit this weekend since he was up late each night, but we did only have 1 wake-up last night, so yay? We have no set nap schedule either, but I think E is a low-sleep needs baby. He usually only has 2 naps at daycare (sometimes 1) and rarely sleeps on the way home anymore, so will be up 4+ hours in the evenings.

@winniebee: Good nap! :)Hope this is the start to good things!!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@FaithFertility: He has taken a couple tumbles on the wood floor as well, (bad mom!) but is a trooper. I've discovered an amazing alternative use for diaper boxes :), perfect size for him and I can set him down anywhere without worrying about him toppling backwards. And he loves being pulled around in it.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@josina: Fun weekend!!!!!!
Sounds like he is a little trooper! We didn't do fireworks with G this year, DH worked and she is a very jumpy girl, I just wasn't sure!
6 months of dogs barking and she still gets startled....lol
1 wake up is in my book a perfect night!
Our sleep is WAY better since we moved to crib, I think she is more comfortable....dark, cool, big bed!!!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@FaithFertility: Normally we watch fireworks up-close, and they set off these huge firebombs... we were a mile away this year so it wasn't loud enough to scare him... but usually when E does get scared he jumps then giggles! lol.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@josina: Nice! I think we have a sensitive soul on our hands....lol she cracks me up! DH will sneeze and she will jump/pout
I'm like really?!?!?!?

@MamaG: Not as bad but def still losing it! I finally caved and got a "mom cut". But I did the long in the front short in the back so I still feel like I have hair!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: you are so brave already for trying! half the time I still chicken out on doing things, esp since K isn't a good sleeper, plus she won't nurse out so makes things so difficult! I hope you still had a good time!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: K was totally fine.. My pup as you could see on IG was the one that freaked out, as usual! K falls all over the place since she is rolling around/crawling/doing whatever it takes to get places... If it hurts she'd cry so I'm sure G is fine! Ohh I didn't realize you can take the legs off those at first! I had been waiting to get one but maybe I can now! But I'm about to get a used walker thing that D has... Ahh toy accumulation!
@KayKay: Sounds like you had a great weekend! And you can never be too prepared haha!
@winniebee: Good luck! I've been wondering what to do with K too. Naps for us are actually the lesser of two evil! She only does 30 min when we're out, but at home if I help her connect she can go for 1 to even 2+ hrs (I think the key was lengthening her wake-time... She def can go 2.5+ now). Night sleep however is bad for us! probably 3-4 wake up's.
@josina: I'd say he did pretty well considering all the activities/changes to schedule!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: I might get this one. Ugh now I want activity table too, lol! And her jumperoo is still out. I think it's time to pack away the piano mat...
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: ohhhh I want that too....lol
Yeah we packed up her floor gym probably a month ago when she grabbed one of the cross bars and it disconnected from mat launching a toy in her face, I said yep your too big....lol
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: Funny, she showed no interest in activity table today....lol
I've got a sleepy gal today woke @ 8
Nap 10-10:30
Now just fell asleep again on way to park at 11:50???
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: At least now she has plenty of energy/time for the park!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: I walked back home...lol we will try again later!
