@FaithFertility: Yeah, we use straw cups at home and he seems fine with them (at least for water), so I sent one to the daycare, but I guess he still wouldn't use it. I remember it took a while for Xander to adjust to the switch too, so I'm just going to try to be patient. Hopefully he'll figure it out soon!

@adira: i actually just through out the last 200oz of my frozen stash because E won't drink it (or at least not very often). she did WCM from a sippy last night before bed fine, and did the same thing when i was out of town for a weekend in october -- basically would only drink water or WCM from the cup, never BM.
i feel a little bad about ultimately throwing away like 90% of the 500+oz stash that i had. but it served me well when she was little so that i could go out/ski/etc and never had to worry about wasting milk or not having enough. and, most importantly, it gave me peace of mind when i went to paris for that week. so, worth it, but still kinda sucks! at this point, most of it was 6-9 months old and not something i could donate anyways.

@KayKay: It's amazing how much peace of mind the frozen stash gives us! At this point, I don't care if Logan wastes it, though it is annoying. We made it a year and that's what I wanted, and like you most of my stash is OLD. I'm currently thawing out milk from MARCH!

@KayKay: I've learned NOT to just stick my finger in...because R rightfully bit my finger once! Instead I just hang him upside down and make him laugh

@KayKay: I know! I see her growing out the rest of her canines but can never get a good look at the molars!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@winniebee: haha, that's a good strategy! K makes a game out of biting my finger and laughing like a maniac when I yell ahhh!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@KayKay: @Adira: I have like 30 oz from and Im hoarding it for next weekend when R is at grandma's for the weekend....I have no idea what he'll do there in terms of bottles / WCM, etc. so I'm sending it all and if it's wasted, it's fine...if he drinks it, great. But I can't pack up my pump yet because of that weekend....I'm thinking I'll just pump morning and night and let it be?
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Adira: he's not going to starve with me only sending 30 oz right? I don't think I have it in me to try to pump anything extra in the next week.....

When you guys are sending sippies to daycare are they having it at the time they'd normally have a bottle? Or just at the end of a meal? Also how much are you sending? One cup they can sip throughout the day or multiple ones? I'm trying to wrap my head around all if this for when we make the switch in two weeks.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: If he was 4 months and EBF, then 30 oz might not be enough for a whole weekend, but at one year (or almost), it should be plenty! He'll eat solids and can always have WCM instead, so it'll be fine.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Adira: he pounds solids and drinks probably 9 oz of WCM a day too. I'm thinking it's ok : )
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Miss Ariel: well, we have a nanny, but I have her give WCM with meals in his zoli...he usually takes 3 oz with his meal ....but R still nurses before naps too. bah.

@Adira: I am using milk from March too, but now that I'm done pumping I'm glad to finally be going through it!
@MrsF: Poor guy, hope he feels better soon. I am not looking forward to E's well-check Friday with all the shots and blood draw.
@snowjewelz: Ethan thinks it's hilarious when I say 'ouch', so I do it to make him laugh and then think better of it, he's gonna think it's funny to hurt people/make them say ouch!
@Miss Ariel: Right now E still takes 2 5 oz bottles, and then 5 oz in a sippy at lunch/snack times I believe, she just keeps it in the fridge in between.
I also curious how the switch from bottles works though, do they take sippy's instead, or not get milk at all at those times? Is it okay that they're not drinking as much milk? E tends to 'snack' from the sippy vs. finishing it.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@josina: Glad I'm not the only one with milk from that long ago! I only have a couple more weeks of pumping (trying to wean slowly) and then I will be DONE! I'll be happy to have the freezer space back too once we go through this stash.
As for weaning, this is what we did with Xander and we're trying to do with Logan: we removed one bottle a week and replaced it with a sippy cup at that normal time. For the first few weeks, he didn't drink very much, but once he was fully bottle weaned, he went back to drinking more, but never as much as he was taking from bottles.

@Miss Ariel: We don't send sippies, our daycare supplies them. They use the cheapo spout topped take and toss cups. K is provided with WCM at breakfast and lunch. At her three snacks (morning and two in the afternoon) she gets water. And they keep a sippy of water in her cubby for anytime in between too.
Before we moved to WCM, I was sending 10 oz of formula that they would provide during breakfast and lunch.
She transitioned away from bottles as a main food source quite some time ago. I really don't know how our daycare did it!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: I know right?! Sometimes I'm like wait.. Is it good that she laughs at my pain?! Hahaha!
So this is how our transition works -
Kara used to get bottle at wake up, after nap 1, after nap 2, before bed. Now, she will just have sippy with milk with breakfast, with lunch and then either a bottle/sippy with milk before bed.
We found that she doesn't like cold milk haha, she wasn't drinking it in the beginning but as soon as we warmed it up to be room temp she's totally fine! We've been giving her a mix of WCM, almond and coconut milk.

@KayKay: yeah - that 1 year appointment is a killer!
And I'm in almost the same situation with the frozen milk. I just threw out a ton (I couldn't bear to calculate how much) because it was old and he seems to prefer WCM in his cup. I had been putting the breastmilk in his cup and the other day I thought the straw wasn't working so I sucked on it a bit and the milk tasted really bad (although I really have no idea how it's supposed to taste). Now I couldn't stop focusing on how old it is. I ended up saving maybe the 20 newest bags in case I want to give them soon but I tossed the rest. I'm on migraine medications and, while I'm comfortable nursing on them, I don't think I can donate. It was such a great reassurance having a huge stash but I definitely didn't need it all!

@Adira: @Miss Ariel: I just give WCM in a straw cup at his meal times and snack times (so 5 times / day) and I'll offer it to him at other times if he seems like he might be hungry. I basically expected his milk intake to drop WAY down because that's what happened with M when we stopped bottles. They should be getting the vast majority of their calories from solids at 1yo anyway.
I remember that when M turned 1 our ped made sure to remind us that they just don't need as many calories as they used to. They have to gain so much weight in their first year compared to their second year. She said that parents often get way more stressed about intake after they turn 1 than they need to be - so I'm trying to remind myself of that!

@MrsF: That's really good to know! I keep feeling like I have to push milk even though she eats yogurt and cheese too. And she is just a big eater in general.

@Miss Ariel: G has been on a straw cup at her sitters/ weekdns for months now!
She gets straw cup at breakfast 7:30/8
Lunch 11/11:30
Snack 2:30/3
Dinner 5:30/6
I nurse right before bed, but sometimes not!
All offerings are in a 5oz straw cup
Sometimes she drinks it all sometimes not, if not in offer it after meal again same cup as she is playing if not I just toss it
Formula for now still

@snowjewelz: Wow K is a good little eater and drinker all that variety!!!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: It's b/c I don't like WCM! I can only tolerate coconut milk; and I don't know what the fuss is about almond milk; why do I want to drink liquid almond?!
Haha I got K her own camelbak b/c she would keep stealing mine!
nectarine / 2210 posts
@FaithFertility: k loves water! We keep a sippie cup of water in the living room each night and she's always picking it up and drinking from it. We've yet to try milk in a sippie though.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@Miss Ariel: So funny G sips it some but maybe a sip or two...lol
Have my water bottle and will drink a few more sips!
I just offer it if we are out and about or out to eat
I try not to push it, but always offer
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: Also I think WCM is making her poop so hard!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: awww really?! Yeah I am thinking when we switch I am really going to have to bump up her water intake!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: I think I'm gonna add prunes to her diet or something. I'm pretty sure it's the WCM b/c that's the only change we've had.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: yeah, sounds like it! Pears and peaches work for G, if she hasn't gone in a day I give her some in her yogurt and BAM by mid-afternoon....well ya get it...lol
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: Dairy can cause constipation, so it can definitely be making her poops more solid and uncomfortable. Try giving her more p-foods (pears, prunes, peaches, plums, peas) to help. Also water.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: I def will be giving her tons of p fruit! She drinks a lot of water already, so I knew it had to be the milk!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: Yeah, I'm nervous about potential constipation issues for Logan. With Xander, he's allergic to milk, so I didn't have to deal with that issue!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@snowjewelz: Both of my kids already have big constipation issues, so I've been really concerned about the WCM transition. I give J a bottle with 1/2 prune juice and half water every morning and that helps a lot. If DH or my sitter skip it for some reason he gets constipated
pomegranate / 3973 posts
Quick note. I'm on day 3 of no pumping, but today is the first day I didn't bring my pump at all. And I want it! 4 hours to go, lol. I can do this.
*E nursed 1/2 hr earlier today, but I am just FULL already.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: Oh that sounds yum! I bet K would like water with a little flavor too! K is still pooping daily but it's def very hard
@josina: Oh man! Hang in there!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@josina: Ugh - not comfortable! So nice not to have to pump though. I hope your body adjusts quickly!
