Our scan is tomorrow and, providing all is well, we will share our news! We both have a lot of friends who we keep up with on Facebook (we told close friends in person over Christmas).
I don't want to post the scan pic online and i don't want anything too cutesy - we are just not cutesy people.
How did you get the news out?

After our 20 week ultrasound we announced on FB we were pregnant. We had told all family/close friends around 14-15 weeks though. We put up a picture of my bump and an ultrasound picture. It was exciting!

We waited till we found out the gender. I put something about I saw lots of frilly dresses, princesses, tea parties, and pink, lots and lots of pink in our future.

We waited until the 20 week ultrasound to announce on FB. I just posted a picture of a sleeper hanging on our clothes line and wrote, "To be filled around 9/27/2012!"

I saw a picture somewhere where the girl was reading What To Expect When You are Expecting. So the book was the main focus, with her kindof in the background. I plan on re-creating that

We announced the pregnancy on FB after our anatomy with a simple status update at 20 plus weeks.
Unfortunately, my MIL announced it on FB the day before we did. Yeah, still not happy about that.

During our Christmas break, our friends helped us capture a photo in the sand where it was "my foot print + my hubby's foot print = a imprinted baby foot print". I plan on making that my cover photo on FB once we decide to announce.
There's also another picture we took in the sand where it said A + S = 3, and the hubby and I stood next to each of our initials.

I haven't decided if I'm going to "announce" on facebook at all. I kind of just want to let it become gradual, like I'll be tagged in a photo where I'm obviously pregnant or something. I had my first scan yesterday but I'm waiting for the blood test results just in case-- I thought I'd be shouting it from the rooftops but still quiet about it.

I was 5 months pg on our 1 year anniversary, so I posted my one and only FB bump pic and wrote somethings along these lines...
"8 years ago came love, 1 year ago today came marriage, 4 more months until.......... we love you honey! Happy Anniversary" and tagged DH in the post. People caught on fast

My football team had just gotten knocked out of the playoffs, so I posted a baby football onesie and said something about even though I was sad about them losing I was really looking forward to next season.

I posted an u/s pic from our NT scan with a caption that read "David McK******** is going to be a Daddy and I'm pretty sure it's mine."

We didnt' do anything cutesy either. DH was actually the one to initally announce on FB, he just said "Well, I'm going to be a dad!" We generally have the same friends and most of the important people in our lives already knew (family and close friends). I didn't really announce.

I posted a pic of baby pink sandals and said "first came love: 2004, then came marriage: 2009 , then came baby in a baby carriage: summer 2012!" This way people not only knew we were expecting but that it was a girl

@Cherrybee: No never "Came out" on FB. People find out anyway as people post pictures of you without asking etc where your bump is visible and then everyone knows anyway.
FB pregnancy announcements kind of make my skin crawl. It just kind of seems kind of self congratulatory and smug.
I would prefer people found out via a third party picture than my own status. It just seems like I am saying "Look I am pregnant! Now like my status and congratulate me!".
Also, its probably a cultural/social thing. I only know one person who announced their pregnancy on FB and we are not from a similar social background. Also, she is the only person I know who has had a baby shower. Neither are things I would do and don't know many friends who would.
ETA: I just read everyone else ideas and I hope I don't come across like a judgey freak. Its just not my style. More power to you if its your thing

@sea_bass: I see what you mean, though almost everyone I know posts some kind of announcement-- I've seen at least 5 since I found I was pregnant 3 months ago! To me, I'm just more superstitious, or cautious, like if anything happened, I'd want to deal with it privately, not have to tell FB that something happened.
I probably will post something later on that makes it clear, like around 20 weeks or so.

@sea_bass: This is my problem, you see! I AM smug and self congratulatory but I don't want to come across that way, hence the refusal to post a scan picture! Haha! I may just go with your suggestion - it pretty much sums up how I feel!

@Foodnerd81: Yes- superstition is a big part of it for me to, if I am honest.
Culturally its viewed as bad luck to even have a stroller in your house before you bring baby home. Like it is tempting fate. I feel the same way about a lot of things in pregnancy. I won't buy anything other than new-born necessities before baby comes, won't have a shower and won't be putting details of my pregnancy on FB.
God forbid, if something happened to my baby I would not have to share the details with work colleagues from 3 years ago. I figure the less people that know is fine by me. Those close of us do, of course.
Also, you would be amazed at how far news travels. People I literally haven't spoken to in years and years that I am no longer remotely connected to, know I am pregnant without any announcement.

I just couldn't do it. Before I knew it a friend snapped a picture of me looking uber pregnant and uploaded it to FB without asking. To be honest, if she had asked I wouldn't have told her not to. I don't expect to disappear from FB for 9 months. Its not like I actively trying to hide it, but I don't feel comfortable with the announcement.

I did announce on Facebook at Thanksgiving. I just posted that DH and I were thankful for our new addition, arriving in May.
I was 15 weeks and we had told everyone close to us. A few high school friends and other acquaintances found out via Facebook but our families and friends knew.

@sea_bass: I didn't want to announce my pregnancy for the longest time on social media. I just didn't. We did a lot of telling people about it in person rather than social media. When #2 happens, we'll probably announce the same way, but won't tell my MIL until we're ready to announce to all of FB.
I keep my LO's pictures on FB to a minimum. I have a Shutterfly family site where they're stored and viewable to friends and family. I cringe when I see profiles chock full of baby pictures. Just not my style.

I didn't announce via social media because I find it rude when I find out about important things like this via Facebook. In fact, sometimes I wish Facebook didn't exist, because then people would be forced to talk to one another.
