I think they were more chatty. People thought they could just come up and talk to you about anything. But then that doesn't stop when you have a LO..... and it also happens when I have my pup. When it's just me they don't seem to care to talk to me.

Oddly enough, it depends on the age of the person! I've noticed that a lot of elderly people are really rude towards me. I don't know what it is. People who are younger go out of their way to be nice or try to help me though. I had a guy at Target offer to carry my basket the other day.

Yeah they usually were nicer BUT now that I'm carrying around an infant carseat: people are overly polite! Totally opening doors and getting stuff for me off of shelves...very nice.

Maybe it was just a bad day, but I went shopping at an outlet mall recently, and everyone was SO rude to me. Namely other shoppers. People kept cutting me off in the stores and I was constantly having to watch myself to make sure I didn't let someone else bump into me (because they weren't paying attention). You'd think, with a big baby bump out front, that people would be more courteous about your personal space. Apparently not for me.

People are so nice when I'm pregnant! I get to cut in line, doors open for me.. It's lovely

I think so - but it could also be that I am a little friendlier, too! A lady let me cut in front of her in Target and in the grocery store people are always helping me out. One of the surly teen shopping cart guys even offered to load my groceries into the car.

@JerricaBenton: That's so cute!!
@allison: That's crazy! I can't believe people were so rude. I hope it was just an off day!
So far I have had doors held for me, seats offered up on the bus, things picked up off the floor for me... and I'm only 19 weeks!! I have been really impressed.

I got a lot of attention when I was pregnant, which was a little odd. I was really happy and felt really beautiful and confidant and it attracted a lot of friendly attention, which is not normal for me. Usually I'm a little more under the radar. I thought it was really sweet, in general.

Yes! People were way nicer to me while pregnant than now that I have a newborn.

people are nicer to me with a newborn than pregnant! I wonder why? people like little babies I guess!

Not really. Men hold doors and elevators for me but this is the land of the Southern gentleman so that's pretty typical all the time.

I don't know if they were nicer but they were definitely much friendly. Random people would strike up a conversation with me and it was fun! They would ask the usual... when are you due...is it a boy or a girl...is this your first or second... I love chit chatting with random people!

agree with PPs, not sure about polite but def more friendly and conversational

The politeness is one of my favorite perks of pregnancy, but maybe that's a more southern thing based on some of PPs comments. People hold doors for me, let me go first, offer to carry things . . . I kinda love it.
That said, people are DEFINITELY more chatty--sometimes it's really sweet and makes me feel better about humanity and sometimes . . . it gives me an opportunity to practice my patience!

LOL @banana I sort of hate the same thing! I feel like I can't step outside my apartment lately without getting bombarded with pregnancy/baby questions. Of course, I am always polite, but I seem to be a magnet for middle-aged Moms who are hoping they have grand kids soon and want to know all the details of my life despite my very clear body language that I would prefer to get my shop on in peace!
I'd say people are pretty much the same other than chatting me up. Which is fine by me - though I am a little irritated when it is freezing and I'm waiting in a crosswalk (think in front of Target) and cars whip by with my giant belly hanging out (really!!).
I will forever let pregnant ladies cut me in line, and not ask them when they're due or "if they're having twins" as a version of paying it forward

Yup, I think so! I also thought ppl were really nice at work, even opposing counsel.

People were SO polite when I was pregnant. If I was waiting in line st the grocery store, and another cashier opened, they would always motion me over, even if I wasn't next.
That doesn't happen any more :(.

People were really polite in my third trimester of my last pregnancy!
bananas / 9227 posts
Yes, it was great! The old adage, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" isn't really taught here! So I appreciated the lack of comments for sure!
pomegranate / 3053 posts
Yes. But some people are still nice when they see me trying to get through a door with a stroller.
papaya / 10560 posts
Sometimes more polite but I got a lot of rude comments! I was at a crowded terminal in an airport about 32 weeks at it took a while for anyone to offer me their seat and I was carrying all my luggage. In fact, I also remember no one helped me put it in the overhead!

@Mrs. Blue: Maybe a southern and Canadian thing? I'm not showing THAT much and people are still very nice.
@scg00387: I hate that people drive so fast in parking lots through crosswalks in general!
@matador84: so rude!!!!

@septemberlove: I actually haven't gotten that yet, except from my family
