@hergreenapples: Im hoping I can decline as well, because I have had some spotting and I don't want to see anymore of it. Too stressful. How many weeks were you for your first U/S?

@citymouse: I was 12 weeks at my first u/s.
Of course you can decline..you can decline any and all medical treatment you don't want! If you don't want a pap then don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I felt very protective of that part of my body at that time (this was pre-12 weeks). Also, I'm in Canada and our guidelines now say that you only need a pap every three years if you've had three negative paps in a row and are in a monogamous relationship. My doctor was totally cool with me declining, which came as a pleasant surprise to me

@citymouse: I would ask if it was possible for them to do it later in the pregnancy. I was due for one when I got pregnant but they waited until late 2nd tri to do it because I had spotting in the first tri and a history of MC. My doctor was fine with waiting. I'd definitely ask!

I've never had one before, so I'm planning to ask my midwife next appt if I should be getting one or not.

@Running Elley: I think I definitely will! Its almost half and half on people getting them vs. not.

I think if its been over a year since your last pap they recommend one. I had my pap done a few months before I got pregnant so didnt need one. I did have a pap during my 6 week post partum check up though.

Yes but I was due for one. Like a PP said, I would decline next pregnancy. I bled/spotted for 3 days after and I'd rather just skip the anxiety that causes.

Nope, they immediately rescheduled me once I told them I was pregnant. But I was planning to decline anyway.

Only at my first appt. For my OB it was required. I could have declined but I would have had to find another OB and TBH, I was fine with it. They are required by law to test for STD's so while they were down there, they did a pap. No big deal.
