I've had two in my arm- I think I'm going to ask for the butt next time

Had 1 for my first pregnancy and this pregnancy in my butt!! So attractive.....

Yep! My husband loves to point out that I am the only "negative" member of the family. Har har.

I'm A- but luckily DH is O- so I get to skip the shot.

I did - in the buttcheek

Yep I did both during pregnancy and after. In the arm both times.

No but I've heard it hurts

I'm 95% sure I'm A- but DH has no idea what his blood type is. So I don't know if I'll have to get it or not.

I got it with my pregnancy (even though my husband is negative blood type as well) and remember it not hurting? I FREAKED out when I found out it was in my butt, so maybe I panicked so much over that, that it really didn't bother me when it happened?

two in the backside! I don't remember it hurting though.. but then again, everything else did at that point

@Boopers: usually around 24-26 weeks, but if your blood type is positive you won't have to get it .

I'm AB- so I was supposed to get it, but DH took one for the team and had his blood type done. He had to provide my MWs with proof from his doctor that he's also negative and then they waived the shot.

I did! Yeowch.

My mom is A-. When she went into her doctor when she was pregnant with me, he saw her blood type and told her she had to get it. She said no, I don't, you're forgetting to ask me something. He told her she was ignorant, and that he was right, he wasn't forgetting anything. She said yes, you are, you don't know my husband's blood type. He told her it doesn't matter what her husband's blood type is, she needs to get it. My dad is A- as well, so no shot is needed, and the doctor didn't think this was relevant. My mom found care elsewhere.

I'm O- and DH is A+ so yeah I had to get it. Holly crap that hurt - I got the shot in my hip and the nurse injected it slowly. Sucked. Luckily, turns out DS is O- so I didn't have to get the 2nd shot after he was born. After 17 hrs of labor and then a C section I was not up for that shot.

@Mrs.KMM: if he donates blood, he can find out! Or at his dr, but this way he gets to save a life and have a cookie haha

Ugh, yes! I've had it in the thigh, the top of the butt, and the arm! I always forget how much it BURNS going in!!! I had to get it three times with my first pregnancy and twice so far with this one. I'm just assuming I'll have to get again after birth too.

I use to work in OB/GYN I would usually inject in the arm .... its nice and easy but I did notice the moms who were on the 2nd pregnancies were usually the 1st to drop their pants and moon me....they were much happier when i informed them that though their great & all... I really was goin for their arm...not their butt!

I appreciate this thread. I knew that I'm going to have to get the shot, but had no idea why people were making a big thing about it (i.e. both my mom and DH's mom made a point of asking if I was going to get it, etc.). I was like, it's just a shot, I'm getting poked and stabbed a million times during this pregnancy, what difference does one more shot make? I had no idea it apparently causes burning pain. Good to know!

@Anya: Unfortunately he has had terrible experiences donating blood before and isn't willing to risk it again. But I donate (which is how I am pretty sure of my blood type).
