I baby sat my aunt's two sons when they were little so that she could run her restaurant, but when she decided she wanted to spend more time with her kids, I took over at the restaurant. I only worked there one day a week when school was in session and multiple or every day during the summer. My parents were adament about me focusing on school and nothing else.

Yep, i started to work at age 14 at the Dairy Queen in town, and in summers I was also a lifeguard at the local pool once I hit 16. (such a small town Midwestern cliche)

I was involved in too many extracurriculars to have time to work (unless I wanted to quit sleeping and work nights). I got my first job the summer after I graduated high school, at a pizza place.
My dad had his own business, though, so I worked there a lot growing up.

I worked at my parent's restaurant throughout my childhood years. It was the worse when I was a teenager because I literally had no freedom and had to work every night. Plus it's my parents... so I was only paid in tips.

I didn't ever work during the actual school year. But during the summers starting when I was 16, I would work as a receptionist at my dad's dermatology office. I enjoyed it! It taught me a lot about customer service

I did. My parents required me to work. Otherwise I wouldn't have had a car. It was tough. I went from school to soccer practice to work. I didn't get home until 11 each night. My classes started at 7:25am. I barely slept my last couple years.

I worked at a minor league baseball stadium. It was very flexible, I could say yes or no to working a game depending on if I had to study, write a paper, etc.

I really wanted to get a job at the mall (WHY??), but my mom forbade me from working during high school. Her reasoning was that I would be working for the rest of my life & that I should enjoy high school without worrying about missing something due to work. I was also in sports every season & other extracurriculars that would have made it nearly impossible
I did lifeguard in the summers, though!

I started working at about 12, cleaning the local newspaper office 2 days a week and teaching ballet lessons 2 days a week. I kept both of those jobs until my senior year in high school, and I also did a few other things for shorter periods of time during middle school/high school: babysitting/full-time nannying, working at a sub shop, editing newpaper articles, and cleaning the post office.

I tutored and babysat a little kid! $12 bucks an hour cash.. woohoo!

I did. I started at a local pizza/sub shop in town when I was 15 and worked there for over 3 years all through high school. I wanted a car and new clothes and so, I had to get a job to get what I wanted! I also taught private violin lessons to younger kids on the weekends.

@sarbear: Awesome story!
I worked in a surf shop from sophomore - senior year. I loved my job and it is still the best job I've ever had. Mostly due to my coworkers. I've gained lifelong friends from that job, and seriously had way more fun than anyone should at work. But everyone stated leaving at the same time for various reasons, and the new people sucked. So I quit halfway through senior year and just had fun before college instead.

I was a store mannequin one summer. I had to wear one of the store's outfits and stand in front of the window and pose like I was as mannequin. It was actually really embarrassing but it paid really well!

I babysat A LOT and worked at my dad’s office doing clerical things during the summers. During the school year I was very involved in extra-curricular activities and didn’t have a lot of free time.

I was a hostess at Red Robin my senior year of high school. I got fired because I no-call/no-showed and had dyed my bangs bright red. LOL.

I worked at Staples one summer and Macy's during another. I worked at the Limited one summer after my freshman year of college.

I started working at 13 in an office and worked there through college, too. I was pretty proud of how much I moved up during my time there. If I had the same boss I probably would have never left.

I babysat every once in a while. The summer before my senior year in high school I was a nanny for 2 small boys. But I didn't have a regular/formal job during the school year.

I babysat occasionally. School kept me pretty busy and I didn't have a car. A job wasn't much of an option.

Yes, I worked at a clothing store & LOVED it! My mom was so worried because I also participated in clubs & sports, so I was spread pretty thin! I did manage to keep my grades up thankfully, I've always loved to be busy!

My parents owned a dry cleaners so i spent all of my summers working at the front counter from when i was 14. There was one summer, however, where i decided i wanted an "office job" telemarketing and ended up making less than i would at my parents' store!

@Rubies: i must have been the only one who didnt finish RCM before 16! haha
hostess / eggplant / 11068 posts
@caffeinated: OMG, I quit (without telling my parents!) two months before my grade 10 exam. The following week, my mom was like, "Okay, go get ready for piano" I said, "Uh, I quit. I told Mr. Hammel I'm not coming back." My parents didn't speak to me for weeks! LOL.

@Rubies: hahaha omg, my parents would kill me! I just went up to grade 9, and then my teacher told me he doesnt think i'm committed enough to continue onto grade 10. Diss...but i was in university by then so i was actually relieved!
hostess / eggplant / 11068 posts
@caffeinated: Me too! I quit the summer before i started university!

I started working when I was a sophomore (my mom had to drop me off until I got my license) at a learning center. They tutored kids on reading, math, etc. I got paid $12 an hour and I remember feeling RICH.
