    We've had quite a few things take off lately! Tomatoes, cucumbers, okra, and herbs especially.

    I only have heirloom tomatoes and strawberries this year. My tomato plant is HUGE! I probably have 20-30 green ones right now on there, and I have 9-10 strawberries so far!

    Yay, its an exciting time garden-wise! We're taking it easy this year since baby is due soon.

    So far, I've picked strawberries, blackberries, 1 plum, peas, and carrots. And we have a tomato or two that is ready to go! The strawberries have had bug problems this year, and I'm starting to think they just aren't worth the effort. The blackberries are just starting to ripen, and technically they're a weed! So I'm hoping to eat them before getting everything chopped down. It got too hot too fast for the peas, so sadly we didn't get many. Carrots are doing well, we pick them as needed. And the plum tree has 4 left that are ripening (dwarf tree)! Sadly, all my cherries were taken before they even ripened, boo.

    @Grace: I had to build a cage to go in our raised bed to keep the birds and squirrels out. We made a frame with PVC pipe, then covered it in chicken wire.

    @SugarplumsMom: I don't mean to burst your bubble, but I don't think you have pumpkins there. I think they are both some sort of summer squash. I think the yellow ones could still be spaghetti squash, and the green one is similar to zucchini. Did your plants not come marked for some reason?

    @Mrs.Someone: I will be so utterly disappointed if that's the case I grew them from seed, but there can always be a mix-up. One of my tomatoes this year ended up being a mystery!

    @SugarplumsMom: sorry what did the seed packets say?

    @Mrs.Someone:
    Cucurbita Maxima 'Atlantic Giant'
    Cucurbita Pepo 'Vegetable Spaghetti'

    @SugarplumsMom: Well, I hope I'm wrong! I've never had seed packets be wrong, its just that the photos really don't look like baby pumpkins. I guess only time will tell.

    @Mrs.Someone: I'm crossing my fingers! We're first timers, so I'd be happy with anything. We're already excited for next year! We're going to give them a lot more space and love, for sure!

    Reviving an old thread to say @Mrs.Someone: you were right! The pictures I posted weren't pumpkins. The fat looking zucchini was the spaghetti squash, but the yellow ones were some sort of waxy ornamental squash. There must have been a seed mix-up. But we did get one real pumpkin and it was awesome!

    @SugarplumsMom: holy crap!!!

    We're not in a financial position to work on our backyard yet so can't establish a location yet. But we miss having fresh veg too much. This year we're going to do some containers gardening.
    Going to order dwarf blueberry plants, tomatoes, green beans and not sure what else. Has anyone seen dwarf strawberry plants?

    @SugarplumsMom: That thing is HUGE! Did you eat it or make a Jack-o-lantern?

    @regberadaisy: Strawberry plants aren't that big, so I don't know that you need a dwarf variety. There are trailing ones that you can put in a hanging basket that might be neat.

    @Grace: don't they usually grow in fields and want to spread? Or are you thing they'll be pretty contained the first year?

    @Grace: Neither The plan was to make a jack-o-lantern, but we got so busy. It sat outside our door well into December!

    @regberadaisy: I think they plant new plants in strawberry fields. They are always so neat and orderly, that I don't think they let the plants run amok. In your case, because you are planting in a pot the plant won't spread because there is only so much room for the runners to grow roots. There's a nice explanation here. http://www.gardenerscott.com/1/post/2012/07/how-to-propagate-strawberries.html

    @SugarplumsMom: Oh no! Although, that's why I don't grow pumpkins. I know that I'd never get around to using them.

    @babycanuck: We have a HUGE garden, and I'm excited to have a garden this year. I have a bit of a black thumb, so it'll be work, but I think I'll get the hang of it.
    We planted some things last year, but we were away for the summer so we didn't get a chance to work it. This year we'll be home, woot!
    Planting;
    - sunflowers
    - pumpkins
    - carrots
    - onions
    - potatoes
    - tomatoes
    - peppers
    - beans

    And we'll see what else.
    Here's what it looked like getting ready last year.
