Both sides of our family insisted for our second baby. We declined because we didn't want or need any gifts and we knew people wouldn't listen and bring things anyway. Looking back, I regret not having a little something to celebrate the baby and still would have insisted no gifts.

We had threw ourselves a little gender reveal party with friends. I doubt we will have a sprinkle but it was a nice way to celebrate a little.

I don't mind them, but then again, I don't subscribe to the generally accepted etiquette rules for common folk...just for royalty, lol.

I like them! But I can see why, in your specific case, you feel negatively about hosting one for your sister.

It sounds like she just wants the gifts/free stuff. Showers (baby and wedding) just have never felt right to me. It's ""here's a list of stuff I want, buy it for me, mmmkay thanks!". If it were about celebrating baby wouldn't you wait til baby has arrived? A sip n see or whatever? I'm normally in the minority with this opinion but whatever.

I think diaper showers are awesome but I know my husband's family thinks that any kind of party for subsequent babies is absurd and make a point not to go and to voice their disapproval. And they are a family that absolutely loves parties. I don't get it.
