    @ChelseaRose: fun!!!

    We are finally getting around to doing her Hebrew baby naming so we are going to do that during the birthday party. My parents want to help pay/plan which is so nice of them. I'm so nervous co planning with them but hopefully it will go well

    @ChelseaRose: so cute!

    so i'm having this battle between pinteresting it out and just keeping it simple and i think i'm going to go with the latter.

    i think i'm going to have the party at home. i think i can keep it at 40 adults + 15 kids.

    @mrsjyw: Fighting the same battle my friend.

    My plan is to DIY a few decorations (giant paper flowers for our 'theme') and then do little else as far as decorations beyond crepe paper streamers. Basic white paper plates/napkins/plastic flatware. Use our own kitchen stuff/servewear. Then probably rent a couple tables and some chairs for the yard space. Cook ahead most of the food ourselves (Southern BBQ). We'll see if I can pull it off!

    @ChelseaRose: what a fab theme!!!

    Oh this thread is so exciting, I'm torn between shock that my little girl is getting big enough for a party of her own and pure excitement!

    We're thinking we might do a party as although we have no family here we do have some friends and A has some little friends she goes on play dates with. I was thinking to do a bonfire and fireworks theme as A was born on Nov 6 but due on the 5th, which is Guy Fawkes night (bonfire night) in England, where we're from. I was thinking we could do sparklers on the balcony, weather permitting, and some English traditional bonfire night snacks like roast chestnuts, marshmallows, parkin, bonfire toffee etc.

    Do you think that would be cool, or just weird, since it's not celebrated or even known about in Canada?

    Thanks for all the positive feedback. I really wanted something to honor his Halloween birthday without being specifically Halloween themed. Monsters (cute, cartoon ones of course) seemed to be the best idea. I wasn't even trying to plan yet, but the idea struck me suddenly and we are going for it!

    Is everyone thinking of having the party at home? I don't really want to but am not sure what the alternative would be... don't have a community center to have it in.

    @kml636: We're having ours at home but if we hadn't moved, we would be looking for somewhere else. Are there any options like a pavillion at a local park you can rent/reserve? Or simply staking out a good spot at a park without a formal reservation (might work better with a smaller party).
    I know some people also rent out a banquet/private space at a restaurant which offers a pretty space and the convenience of having them cater it.

    @ChelseaRose: So cute! I found lots of Monster ideas on Pinterst if you haven't looked there yet. My baby shower was on Halloween weekend and they did the little pumpkin theme. Very cute. Have fun planning... will be here soon!

    I'm getting our invitations ready and wanted the opinion of you guys! We are doing the Golden Afternoon/flower garden theme at our new home. I planned on a loose color pallete of pink/orange/yellow/white with some giant tissue paper flowers and crepe paper streamers.
    Which invitation do you like best?!

    @kml636: we recently decided to have the party at home. we have the space, plus we'll likely have our basement finished by then for additional space. i'm just glad to have the additional stress of finding a venue, booking, deposit, bla bla all out of the way

    MIL, Mom, & Aunts want to cook anyway so it'll be easier to have at home and save us some $$ too Also - nice to have DS at home for naps/etc.

    @lindseykaye: I like the colors of the first but the simpler design of the second! Love the theme!!

    @lindseykaye: i think i like the 2nd better. i really like that coral color!

    i need to get crackin on the party! i want to do paper invites too and was running it by DH last night, all he said was, "can't we just send an evite??" uh no! hah we need the pretty stuff.

    @kodybear: @mrsjyw: Thanks guys! I really liked the Tiffany-style glass feeling of the first one, but the color and watercolor painting style of the second is also just so pretty! I'm leaning that way, too. I think it's a little more casual now that I'm seeing them side-by-side and the party definitely isn't fancy.

    Oh and FYI they are wedding and bridal shower invitations from VistaPrint and I just customized the wording on each line. I didn't love any of the kid birthday free designs but also didn't want to buy an invitation digital design on etsy (though there are a few I was drooling over) then pay the upload fee in addition to the printing costs. Easy!

    @kml636: we are doing it at our local rec center. I don't want to worry about my house not being clean enough (which always stresses me out to the max when hosting)

  17. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

    Booked the rec center this morning! I'm really excited.

    We are also doing LOs Hebrew naming ceremony at the party so we booked the officiant for that. We are using the same guy who married us

    Time to order invites! ( we are inviting family that lives out of townm)

    Is anyone doing 1 year photos? I was thinking about it but I'm not sure I want to spend the money... though I will probably regret it if I don't. I don't want to do them in advance to use at her party or anything, just document my sweet girl at 1 year, maybe have a couple family shots in there too.

  24. DillonLion

    @lindseykaye: doing them early so we have them for the party

    @DillonLion: My dream is to hire a photographer for the party and get some shots of her then and of everyone celebrating. Doubt we have the funds for that though!

    @lindseykaye: aw that would be nice! DH is a photographer for his company (one of the million hats he wears there) so he will be on photo duty for the party

    pear / 1992 posts

    @DillonLion: Jealous! We have some talented friends, too so I know we will have good photos... but nothing like the pros who are used to getting shots of kids/babies. How awesome that DH is talented with photography! I would be making him take so many photos of LO!!

    @lindseykaye: yeah you know I need to ask him to do that more. He's on top of the video camera...so we that at least!

    @lindseykaye: yep, on A's 11 month! 10/21 we'll be doing a family/portrait shoot. i think i might take him into a cheapo studio to get some formal shots too. i am looking into hiring her for the bday party at the house pending we like the pics from the family session!

    I'm doing winter onederland theme. Plan to use red and aqua with penguins, polar bears. I wanted to rent a fake snow machine to use in the backyard for the kids to play in. But my DH thinks it will be too messy. So guess we won't do that. I just think I need something for the bigger kids to do. We don't have a playground set or swing set in our yard. So not sure what else we could do. I thought about decorating sugar cookies. Any suggestions?

  32. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

    @turkeylurkey: I love that theme!

    I decided on a "you are my sunshine" theme and I'm going to do a brunch at my house. Ordered a chalkboard print for her one year photos, and am starting to go crazy with the yellow, orange and pink themed stuff on etsy! Here is the invite I got:

    You guys are so organised!

    @kml636: @lindseykaye: love the invitations!

    @DillonLion: such a pretty party dress!

    I'm still toying with whether to have a party.... I have serious Pinterest envy and am worried about being able to pull it off on my own but would really love to have one for her. I decided to ditch the Bonfire Night theme until she's older and have a garden so we can do fireworks etc. So I was thinking the sprinkles theme might be the easiest to pull off...

    What are you all doing about food? I thought about doing a yoghurt bar since it's A's favourite food ever, lol. I thought we could do different toppings like fruit and candy. No idea what else to serve though...

    I hope you ladies don't mind me hanging around here. My LOs a December baby and his party is the first week!
    Were doing a fiesta theme....I already made a piƱata. I need to work on the invites next.

    @kml636: So pretty! I love the colors you chose - we went with the second invite (poppies) and I'm working with a similar color scheme - pink/coral/yellow - and I love it!

    @travelgirl1: I like the yogurt bar idea - it's really original and like a healthier version of the ice cream bar party

    We're doing a full meal with a Southern BBQ theme as most people will be coming from out of town. It has nothing to do with the party theme but it's food we and our friends/families love. Pulled meat in crock pots, cornbread and rolls, succotash, slaw, jalapeno popper dip, and platters with fruit, veggies, relish tray (with my mom's pickled veggies assortment), etc. It's probably too much food but that isn't a bad thing in my book

    I'm planning a strawberry-vanilla cake, banana-oat cookies for littles, and brownie bites. Also contemplating sugar cookies as favors... but do I really want to do favors?

    @wheres_c: Welcome welcome! A party with a pinata will be extra fun!

  38. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

    @travelgirl1: Okay, I might have to steal the yogurt bar idea especially since we are having a brunch!

    @lindseykaye: I did pulled pork for my gender reveal party and everyone loved it! It's really easy too. I was also thinking about sugar cookie favors. I'm at least doing favors for the little kids that will be there. I may be crazy, but I'm doing the "little miss sunshine" books. I found where I could buy 25 of them for $2 each. Over the top?

    @wheres_c: I love the fiesta theme too! So many fun ideas for the future
