@lindseykaye: oh gosh, that is heartbreaking! I am so sorry. Can you ask a gf to come help?
pear / 1992 posts
@DillonLion: Can you fly to Florida?! I wish!
That is a good idea, and I might be able to enlist a couple friends. Friday is a local holiday (football homecoming weekend) so I know that some of my friends who work for the university have the day off, and my friend who is a teacher might also have the day off (kids for sure are off, but I can't remember if teachers also have a day off or have a professional day). For now I'm not getting my hopes up or counting on it, but I am definitely going to see who might be able to help a girl out!

@lindseykaye: ill be there a little late...in March! Are you anywhere near St. Petes?
pear / 1992 posts
@DillonLion: Hahaha - I'm in Gainesville which is a couple hours northeast of St. Pete. I am originally from Sarasota though, which is very close to there (45 min- 1 hr away). I would love to stay updated on your plans and maybe we can go home to see family that weekend and make a little meetup happen one day!
Oh and it is BEAUTIFUL there. Just gorgeous beaches, really. And the weather in March is great.

@lindseykaye: yay! Yeah I will definitely keep you up to date.

@lindseykaye: thanks for thinking of us! His party went very well. It was hectic having it at (our small) home, but overall it was fun and guests seem to have a good time. I think he knew something was going on the day before because he did not sleep well that night/morning, which meant extra tired mom and dad. We had friends who offered to come over early to help, so we took them up on it. I was so tired that night, but it was worth it. I don't think we will make such a big deal the next couple of years, but his first birthday was a great celebration. I just love him to pieces and can't believe that I have a one year old and not a baby.

@ChelseaRose: Aw yay! So glad it went well. Sounds like what I expect for our party (at home, lots of people).
I definitely won't be planning a party like this for future birthdays (at least not until another milestone) but for the first, we're happy to go all out (and get myself all stressed-out!).

@ChelseaRose: i still can't believe nov is here... but i'm glad the party went well!! my LO always seems to know when somethings up too and naps alot less. i'm glad you guys had fun tho!
is anyone planning special activities and/or favor bags for other kids coming to the party? i think we might've talked about this before. but i'm not sure if i should prep some stuff for them, i'm just afraid they'll be super bored at our house! haha

@kodybear: I have a few 'older' kids coming (5, 7, 8) and was planning on a little goodie bag but I nixed the idea this week. I think they'll have fun with each other or with the babies. We will have a bubble machine and a baby pool full of ball-pit balls. Parties aren't too long and there is food, juice/drinks, and treats.
My friend who is bringing the 7 year old told me not to worry about it so with her blessing, I crossed that task off my list.
I was going to go to Michael's craft store and grab random stuff from their dollar bins. Like stickers, notebook, silly/fancy pen, glow bracelets (they are always there), etc.
And just re-read your post and saw it said other kids, not older kids. Hah. I guess my answer is yes then? Thanks to having the ball pit and bubble machine? I'll also be doing what @DillonLion: is doing and will bring out some of her bigger toys like the walker, activity stand, etc.

@kodybear: i think i am going to do party favors and bring some of her big toys and a mat to do a little play area.

Sorry I've been MIA! It's been a whirl wind around here. My mom turned 60 yesterday and so we threw her a surprise party. My step-dad sprung this on me last week! So needless to say I was going crazy trying to get cake, food, band, deocrations and call everyone! All in all it turned out awesome and she scored 52 bottles of wine! LOL
Love Austin's little balloon invite! And love the school pictures. California girl welcome to the boards! LindsayKaye sorry your mom can't make it to the party!
I've got the cake ordered for E's party, invites went out last week and I"ve slowly worked on decorations. Can't believe this time last year I was having contractions and they thought any minute I'd have the baby. Too bad he took another 2 1/2 weeks to come! LOL

Party was a big success! Here is my current favorite photo of the day - her first taste of cake! I think she is a fan

@mrsjyw: NICE!!!
I just created the ceremony script for our Hebrew baby naming ceremony that will be taking place at the party. I am really happy with it! I sent it to DH and my parents for their eagle eye on formatting/spelling/grammar.

@lindseykaye: Awww so cute! Did she like her cake? I made A a smash cake on her birthday, not for the party - anyway, she hated it, ha ha - shuddered in disgust and pushed it away
@DillonLion: @mrsjyw: So exciting, I bet your parties will be amazing!
A's party was last Saturday, it was so much fun! We had it in our building's social room and decorated with balloons then put lots of toys out for the babies. We had a yoghurt bar with different toppings and I baked a rainbow cake, which was awesome to cut into. I'd been really worried A would miss out as her family all live overseas but actually, she was surrounded by people who care about her and we were really touched. Birthday parties rock!

@lindseykaye: I LOVE that picture, so stinking cute!
Our party is on saturday... I spent literally all day Sunday in the kitchen making buns, sloppy joes, pulled pork, and practicing cupcakes... I'm ready for January between this and the holidays

Guest list is up to nearly 50, but i know people always back out last minute so i dont excpect that many to show.
About 10 people are coming in from out of town and staying at our house. Phew, thatll be interesting.
Getting excited!

@scg00387: @mrsjyw: Hope your parties went awesome!!
(did I miss anyone else who threw a bash this past weekend?)
@travelgirl1: So glad your party was so much fun! I remember your yogurt bar idea and it sounded great - glad it worked out perfectly! And yes, she liked the cake. She mostly licked the frosting off her hands and took a few bites as pictured above. If I hadn't cut her such a big piece she would have picked it up and eaten it. Though when I took it inside, there was just the tiniest bit actually eaten off it. Little mouths - I'm glad she didn't actually get much

@lindseykaye: hehe ours is this coming up saturday! last minute frenzy!
pear / 1992 posts
@mrsjyw: Ah! Good luck then! I was going NUTS until probably half an hour into our scheduled party start time but after that it was smooth sailing!
And if I had been able to decorate, make ahead, and had some help as planned I would have been good to go

@DillonLion: WHOA! So sweet you have so many people in your life who love your LO!
@travelgirl1: I want to see the rainbow cake!
@lindseykaye: thanks! I just posted a picture on the pics thread. It was a little stressful, LO was super duper grumpy the whole day (totally not like him) but finally warmed up once we got there. I will never plan another party over dinner or lunch though.. so stressful making that much food!
@mrsjyw: can't wait to see!

@lindseykaye: Ha ha, cake is one of the best things in the world though, isn't it? I went to a first birthday party on Saturday and the birthday boy LOVED his smash cake, it was so much fun!
@scg00387: Here you go : )

@travelgirl1: he certainly did love it! Lol
My LOs party was this weekend and we did a smash cake at the party. LO didn't like the sticky icing on his hands but once he discovered the cake he ate so much we had to take it away!!

@californiadreams: Did you let him have the rest later? I wish A had loved hers that much
pomegranate / 3411 posts
@travelgirl1: haha definitely not. That was a one time thing for now. I guess that means I'll have to finish it for him, oh well

@lindseykaye: i know im late, but im glad she liked the cake and had fun!
@travelgirl1: that cake was amazing! Glad it was fun even without a lot of family (ours was mostly friends too and our families are mostly local).
Good luck to those mamas hosting parties this weekend!

@californiadreams: we took away the cake too. He totally would have eaten more and tried to get it off the table later in the day. He only managed to get some frosting on his finngers though.

Had E's party yesterday and it was a hit! We did the Winter ONEderland theme. I had the hubby put out my Christmas outdoor decorations, the cake was awesome and E at almost all of his!... the kids loved our playroom. We made fake snow for the backyard. The big kids (adults) loved the snowball fight. We had about 40 people. I said no gifts but he still got gifts from almost everyone! LOL The kids couldn't stand it and opened them for him. So I'm not quite sure what we got and from who!

@turkeylurkey: aw, that is such a cute theme!!!

@kml636: love the picture!! she is so cute and love the chalkboard and the crown! did you make those?
@DillonLion: it looks like the party was a success! i'm jealous at all that space you had for the party! ours was at our house so it was cramped.
LO had 2 parties, one for DH's family (like 20 people), and one for my family and friends (30 ish people). they were fun and i think LO had a good time but the planning and cleaning (before and after) wasn't fun! dh wants to do it again next year haha we will see
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@kodybear: wow, you are my hero for having two parties!! We had one with about 30 people and it was so much work but I think she had a great time. I bought the crown and sign off etsy, I can't make anything lol.
