I think you have to decide a few specifics first:
1) Will you request "no gifts?" I think some people hear party for a baby and assume it's baby shower like. I would assume since it's not your first you'll want to specify no gifts.
2) Will you find out before the shower or find out with guests?
3) When to host- this depends on your friends/guests. If not many have kids, maybe do a nighttime party with signature blue and pink cocktails. Lots of families/kids? Maybe a BBQ on a Sunday. When you decide the guest type and party type, that will dictate if you should host or ask a family member or close friend to. If you have to have someone else host, then I would suggest doing everything yourself- just asking them to share their home. I think unless you live in an apartment, etc, that can't accomodate, you should probably host.

After you decide on these things, there are TONS of fun ideas (check pinterest!) for things to do! Decorate in blue/pink obviously, ask people to wear pink or blue depending what they think (and if you guys don't know, you can too!) You can reveal with a pinata, or cake/cupcakes, or balloons... lots of ideas. The possibilities are endless!!!!

My SIL planned it with her mom. It was just a BBQ with a grocery store cake. It was a lot of fun!!!
