It started as minor congestion and a sore throat on Saturday. My doc has Robitussin and Tylenol products on the OK list for colds, so I took some yesterday but I saw today that the active ingredients are class C so I stopped. It's full nasal congestion now and just starting to cough phlegm. I am using a netipot which helps for like 15 minutes, and good old Tylenol is helping with the general hit by a bus feeling, but I'm worried about it turning into an infection or the phlegm worsening. Any recommendations?

What trimester are you?
I think Mucinex is considered safe after the first tri. It could help with the congestion.
Or maybe ask your doctor about nasal sprays. Since they're localized they're sometimes considered safer.

I'm 22w5d! I will call in the morning since they're closed now. Since they say Robitussin cold is fine and I'm not comfortable with that, I half expect them to say that whatever I want to do is fine so I wanted to get some other opinions. Thank you!

I had a sinus infection while 8 months pregnant and I had tried to just treat it with Tylenol and a neti pot (unsuccessfully). I think the internist I saw called in a prescription for an antibiotic in case it got worse and told me to take sudafed (with pseudoephedrine), which I took sparingly (I checked with my OB and they OKed it as well). The sudafed really helped me, though, and I never ended up picking up the antibiotic. I think my whole episode lasted twice as long because I was trying not to take anything. Hope you feel better soon!

Of course we are leaving for a family vacation at the beach all next week, too. I'll ask about Sudafed!

Nasal steroid spray can make a huge difference and it's all otc now. It's usually marketed as allergy med but can help with this too and like pp said is locally acting. My ob told me to take it no problem.

I took robitussin when I was 14 weeks but I don't have a problem taking something if my OB says it's ok. To me, it's worth it. That said, rhinocort nasal spray is category B. I take it for allergies but it might help you.

I have asthma and get scared of stuff settling in my chest, so going to go for Sudafed since it's a category B. Rather prevent it from progressing!

Sometimes I find allergy medicine helps, and I know Claritin is allowed during pregnancy.
