Yesterday baby was looking great on the ultrasound and had a strong heartbeat - 178 bpm. Isn't that high? I was reading online that it should be 120-160 bpm. Neither the tech nor the OB mentioned that having a high heart rate is bad....but of course I have to analyze everything. Neither of my boys ever had heart rates that high.
Thoughts? I'm crazy?

Maybe it's because this one is a girl!!
My girls were all 165-170 bpm around 12 weeks.

Mine was in the 170s at 8w2d, too! Nobody was concerned at my place, either. I'm pretty sure E's was really high early on. Maybe you're having a girl this time.

Both my girls were in the 170s (we even had 185 once) in the beginning, so I don't think there are any worries!

My first was super high - like in the 180s - and it stayed pretty high until like the third trimester when it came down to like the 140s. He's fine.

Mine was always in the high 170s until second tri, so perfectly healthy!

DD's heart rate was in the 180s at my early ultrasounds. When I go to the second tri it was in the 150s or 60s. I remember my RE commenting that she must be working out in there. We did see her kicking off the walls during the scan.

Sounds normal to me. I freaked out on Friday at my anatomy scan because hb was "only" 140, and asked the tech why it was so low. She said "maybe she's sleeping?". I've never been to a scan with hb lower than 160. Both girls

Totally normal. My first LO had a HB of 174 at the first ultrasound.

E's was 183 at 8 weeks, and G's was 175 at 10 weeks. After that they both settled down into the 130-145 range.

@JoJoGirl: My boys were usually in the 140s! The highest was I think high 150s around 12 weeks. Hmmmm.

@winniebee: Fetal heart rates peak around 9/10 weeks so 170s is right on track. I have one of each and they were both in the 170s early on. My girl stayed high, my boy hung out in the 140s/150s from the second tri on.

I went at 8 weeks and I think the heart beat was 174. I was also worried it was too high, but now at 35 weeks everything is perfectly normal and it's usually around 160. And it's a boy

@winniebee: sounds like a girl to me!! This one was 170 something at 12 weeks. My son was like 150. Now she is lower (140 usually) but started high!

My girl's was high at that stage too. It didn't go down for quite a while.

Nope. My daughter's heartbeat was in the 170's early on, dropped to the 160's as she grew.

M was anywhere from 145-175, and is all girl. I think this one is a girl for you as well! Or, another awesome boy!

Normal My baby had high heartbeats well into the second trimester. Then it started slowing down a bit in the third, but still in the 140s/ 150s.

@winniebee: Have you had the blood draws for the Materni21 test yet? It only takes about a week or so to get the results. I knew well before 12 weeks that I was having another boy.

@cascademom: I'm having the blood draw next week, at 10 weeks and change. They said 7-10 days for the results, so I'll probably know around 11.5 weeks.
