I am 18 weeks pregnant, and ever since we found out we're having a girl I've gone a little crazy in the clothes department. We've only known for a couple of weeks and I already have 5 outfits for her. I really need to stop! This morning I got an email from Baby Gap about the 30% off they're having right now, then I went to their website and now I want everything!! In particular, I really want this! But I am going to hold off for now. How did you resist the urge to buy clothes for your LO??

I would just buy things so that way, I didn't have to buy it all at once later on.

We have a ton of clothes all the way up to 12 months. It made me feel better that at least I wasn't wasting money on clothes that will be too small so quickly.

Being team green makes it a lot easier! If it's a boy, I will get tons of hand me downs and won't need to buy much, but if it's a girl... I'll probably go nuts buying cute things (a boy would be MUCH cheaper for us!).
Plus we are moving this month, so it doesn't make sense to buy anything before we move. After that, it might get harder I guess. All we have bought so far are 3 novelty onesies, as souvenirs from vacations.

We were team green, but here are some tips I have found now that she's here.
1. They do not need "outfits" that often. Even as they get older, they need play clothes. I try to have one special outfit for each season and maybe a few nicer going out to dinner outfits.
2. Pick a price range for you. Either by item ($4/leggings, $7/sleepers, etc) or a price for each age range and stick to that.
3. Spread out the purchases over a wide age range. Right now I am picking up 3T stuff for my daughter for next winter because its on sale. Its a bit harder to know seasons though with baby growth.
4. Remember you will get a lot of clothing as gifts. Dont spend all your money on clothes and then not be able to get the good gear. Try to shop for cute practical items like paci clips, blankets, etc.
5. You will always need basics. A long sleeve white shirt is great for layering! Socks are always needed.

I take great pleasure in dressing myself so my DS is no different. On my lunch break today I bought him a second St. Paddy's outfit. Because, you know, every 15 month old needs two St. Patrick's Day outfits, right?

We have our anatomy scan on Wednesday (we had an elective u/s at 16w) and I am terrified they are going to say the tech at the elective place was wrong and it's actually a boy. With the exception of a sailor dress, everything I have bought so far is pink!!

@lawbee11: that outfit. I WANT IT SO BADLY!!!! I did learn not to buy tons of super cute things for her for her first summer, though. She never wore them or no one ever saw her in them. I'm super stoked about her second summer - she'll probably be walking so she can show off all her cute clothes!!

Um, I don't? haha! Even the hubby has a hard time resisting, but we've only been buying super sale/clearance stuff and in various sizes that coordinate with what season will be in. We only have like 2-3 outfits for newborn, 3 for 3 months, a bunch for 6 and 9 months.

@lawbee11: If its any help I wasted a Ton of money prebaby buying clothes- he grew insanely fast and is going to be in 9 month stuff by summer (he's 3.5 m now and in 6m). I so regret buying stuff!

I resisted because:
- you have absolutely no idea what size your LO is going to be
- you have no idea how clothes will fit them (there are certain brands that never fit my son right & I never buy)
- you have no idea if they will be in the size you think they are going to be in the season you are buying the clothes in
- you can't return things a year later if you find out you have misjudged the size you thought they would be
There will still be cute clothes a year from now- focus on the other stuff. You will regret spending money on things she will never wear.

I splurged on a few pieces, but for the most part he closet was so jammed packed that I knew she wouldn't get to wear everythign. But now that she's older and wearing clothes longer...I have been going nuts! what little 6 month old doesn't need mint colored skinny jeans to match her momma's??

I have a hard time....and my kid has so many clothes (we still have a few items from the baby shower to wear...and he's 10 months old!)
When they are super little (like the first few months) I mostly dressed my son in a onesie if we were around the house. It was hot and it was easy with the million diaper changes every day. He hated getting changed so I hated putting new clothes on him!
