I didn't take this particular test, but with Panorama the charge was significantly higher (also high deductible plan), when I called them, they reduced the charge to $200 when I told them my insurance wasn't paying it due to deductible. The whole ordeal is frustrating to me and gets me up on my healthcare system soapbox.

I took Harmony and it is going to be $130 out of pocket. No coverage for me because I'm not AMA and I took it electively. That is crazy stupid that it's more with insurance. I wonder if you could ask your doctor not to file with insurance so you could pay out of pocket. At the very least, maybe Maternity21 will reduce the cost. I've read a lot of stories where they've done that.

Zero. We got a notice that insurance was not going to cover it (the test itself was several thousand) but have not received any sort of bill from anyone).

@winniebee: Did you call to find out your benefits before hand? I had new insurance this time so I called and they sent me a form that outlined under what circumstances the cell-free dna test is medically necessary. The top line item is "35 years or older at delivery."

Did you get an EOB or a bill? I would try to contact your health insurance company and see if they can explain it to you. There are many times when they process claims wrong.

@winniebee: I'd call your insurance too. They're the ones that actually make the determination for how much it will cost. The testing company may not have calculated it right either.

@winniebee: I would get the insurance company to email you the information. Then you have a written record of it and if they bill you a different amount, you could contest it.

@winniebee: Boo. I have an HMO with no deductible, so I'm sure that also helped. I'm sorry you'll have to pay so much.

@MamaG: so i just got a massive bill in the mail from the lab that did my panorama. did you call the lab that did the test or did you call panorama directly? I don't know who gets my wrath first. I'm about to get on my soapbox as well, i'm so angry about this whole ordeal!

We paid $130 for Harmony because it was cheaper than if our insurance had been billed (as with others). And I'm a carrier for an "incompatible with life" genetic disease, so all other testing has been covered no problem (multiple CVS and amino tests).

@MamaG: my tests were processed by bioreference labs, so the # on the bill is for their billing dept. I'm just not sure if it's a waste of time to call them and I should just call panorama directly, or if panorama is going to say "you need to call the lab." The bill was $1370, and it looks like my insurance already picked up $2100! My doctor basically guaranteed it would be in the $130 range, but the bill is 10x that, because I have insurance? GRRR!

$25 because they were running a special. But they sent us a bill for $3,000, then when DH called tried to convince us to pay "just" $100. But magically as soon as he insisted on speaking to a supervisor they honored the original agreed price. Medical billing can be such a scam sometimes!

We had the harmony test done. The reason we chose that one is because they told us if we paid direct to them and did not go through insurance, they would charge us $200. Well for some reason, they did go through our insurance (even though they assured me they wouldn't). I got a EOB that said they charged our insurance around $2500 and since it wasn't covered we would be responsible for the entire amount. But they also included a check for $600ish to us. Perhaps that was their discounted rate? Not sure why it was sent directly to us. But I called harmony and they just said to pay the amount our insurance gave us and they would bill us for the remaining amount down the line. Well we never received a bill and it's been over a year since we had the test done! So I paid $0!
