Bananas - $0.48/pound
Milk - half gallon whole organic $2.50
Chicken - I usually buy whole chickens for $5. Though I got one on sale today for $3.50. I think boneless skinless chicken breasts are about $4.00/pound.

Bananas at TJ's $.19/lbs.
Gallon of milk $2.99/ also for half gallon of almond milk
Chicken (organic) $4-5.99/lbs

Banana are 49cts a lb typically
Not sure on gallon of milk
Chicken breast on sale are $1.99/lb but that happens maybe once every 2 months and then we stock up

Chicken depends on the cut, around $3/lb for legs and thighs, between $4 and $6/lb for breasts.

@mrsjyw: are you sure it wasn't .19/each? We shop at trader joes too and they're .19/each for conventional, .29/each for organic.

I don't buy milk so I'm not sure the price on that.

As for chicken we usually buy organic or natural and that ranges from $3-$6/lb depending on the cut. I usually buy drumsticks or thighs to keep it cheap.

Gallon of milk: $6.50
Pound of chicken breasts: Boneless/skinless, never frozen, unseasoned true chicken breasts - On sale $6.49. Below $6.00 I stock up like I'll never eat again. Regular price maybe around 8.50? I've never bought them full price so I"m not sure.

I always see bees on here talking about their monthly grocery budgets and I'm blown away with how little you can get away with in the states.

We pay:
Bananas: $.59+/lb.
Milk: $3.99 for a half gallon (local farm, no growth hormones, etc.)
Chicken: all depends on what quality and amount you buy. Good quality chicken is around $6.99/lb for boneless/skinless.

It depends so much on quality; we spend $4.99-5.99 on a dozen of local farm fresh, humanly treated chicken eggs, but you can get factory farm eggs for as little as $.99 on sale at Walgreens.

I can get bananas for $2 a bunch and sometimes .80-.99 a lb.
Milk: We don't buy gallons, but I'm sure it would be more than what everyone is posting. We pay $3.99 or $4.99 for a half gallon of milk (organic).
Chicken: $3.99, but this varies between no antibiotics, organic. A lot of the organic is like $10.00 a lb. Which is one of the reasons we don't eat chicken!

Bananas: $.55 /lb (regular, non-organic)
Milk: $2.87 /gallon on sale, regular price is $3.69 /gallon (store brand, non-organic)
Chicken Breast: $5.99 /lb, but we usually buy it for $2.99 /lb on sale (antibiotic free, boneless skinless)

Back when we were in Northern VA bananas was $59 and $69 for organic and organic milk at Costco was 3 for $10. I dont' know about chicken. I just get the big packs at Costco and freeze.

I just looked on Fresh Direct, the site we usually buy groceries online from in NYC:
Bananas: $.88/lb
Milk $4 for conventional gallon or $4 for organic 1/2 gallon
Chicken: anywhere from 4-12/lb depending on type

@lovehoneybee: you could probably get to the TJ's in Montgomery County in around an hour. It's right off the NE extension of the TPK.
