I would spend $20 max. The last two years I have bought Carter's costumes from Costco for $12 - $15 (can't remember exact price). It's cheap and warm for those colder Halloween nights. Pottery Barn will probably mark down the costumes right before Halloween.

I have a dragon costume from old navy. How old is your LO? I think my son wore it when he was 2. If its the right size, you can have it. I totally forgot about it and I have no use for it now. I'll see if I can pull up a pic.

@littlek: here he is. Not as many details as the pbk one but still cute:

I agree with others that it's a lot for a costume, but I would say if it makes you really happy and you haven't found anything equally satisfying for a better price, buy the costume and curb the spending elsewhere to make up for it. There are only a few holidays where you get to dress them however you want before they start telling you what THEY want. It's hard to put a price on the memory. Oh yeah and definitely wait longer. It's really early. Gymboree usually has good costumes and they aren't even out yet.

@littlek: I always look for deals on his costumes and never find them! I think I'm going to order the monkey costume, we have a banana costume for the new baby

@MsLipGloss: this one is 10x nicer than pbk's
I wouldn't spend more than like..$35? And that PBK isn't like...super unique. It's very average. You will find it elsewhere.

It's cute! But I'd wait until next year's Halloween and buy it when it's on sale later this year!

I also got the $15 Carter's costume from Costco. I'm probably going to spend about the same this year.

I sent DH a picture of the costume and the price and he flipped his lid.. so this is definitely NOT going to be B's costume...

@littlek: it's size 12-24 months. You can alway embellish it to add more details too.

When they're babies/toddlers I'll try to keep it under $30. I have 2 CArter's pumpkin costumes that my DD wore and my DS will wear too

Try childrens consignment and craigslist! I just got an almost brand new costume for LL for $8! AND it is cuter than all the ones I have been looking at that were in the $50 range (eek!) The ones at Once Upon a Child where I live are $4.50.
