I got cervical checks during my last month of pregnancy. I think that I also had two of them. I remember one of them I bled a bit, but was warned about it. It really didn't do anything to progress labor.

My midwife said not until 39/40 weeks when they offer a stretch/sweep they would check then, but they don't do it before "just for the sake of it" according to her.

I only had one at 39 weeks. And that was because I was curious and asked for one.

With DD I went into labour @ 37w2d and never had one until I was in L&D Triage.
I'm 35w3d right now and don't expect any until I'm in labour this time either

When I got to the hospital in labor, at 4cm, then again at 9 cm after I asked about an epidural! My midwife practice didn't do them routinely until you hit the 40 week mark or on request.

With S, only when I was in labor. I'm only 32 weeks, now, so I haven't had any yet.

After 36 weeks my OB offers them and let's you decide. I got one every week because I like to know what's going on!

I didn't until I was in labor. My cousin, who gave birth 6 weeks before me, had a cervical check 4 weeks before her due date with her first baby and was 4cm and she still went a couple days past due. My friend, who had her son 3 weeks before me, had a cervical check at her appt and was hardly dilated and gave birth six hours later!!
Their stories were enough to convince me a cervical check probably wouldn't tell me much. I had my first cervical check in active labor when I was 6cm dilated.

I only had a couple at the end, one at 39 weeks and another at 40 weeks!

Never. Granted, I went into labor a little early at 37w3d, but I had an appointment earlier that day with no check. They didn't even check when I arrived at the hospital -- the only one was when my midwife said I could start pushing!

A bunch early on because I had unexplained bleeding. Once I reached 36 weeks, they did them once a week at my office visit. Then of course while I was in labor they checked several times!

I had one last week at 36 weeks but not at my appt today for 37 weeks. Last time I had 1 at 36 and 1 at 38 but she asked if I wanted the 2nd.

I'm 32 weeks and have had 3, but all were for bleeding. I don't know when I will have them again.

I had one at 38w1d. Went into labour at 38w2d and had a few while I was in labour.

Only in labor. I told my ob I didn't want to know how close things were since the numbers don't mean much before labor. I wanted minimal checks in labor too - I think I had 3.

38+2 today and haven't had one yet. I've not heard of any of my friends having checks prior to 40 weeks either, unless they were already in labour. I just don't think they are that common here.

Once a week since 36 weeks. I've had 2 hospital visits since then also and I got checked there.
Honestly they don't bother me at all when my doctor or his PA checks me at my weekly visits. Not painful, no pressure...nothing. At the hospital though the nurses felt like they were using knives!!
I know they don't mean much...someone not dilated can go into labor anytime and someone can walk around for weeks at 3cm. I could turn them down but I don't read much into them anyway so I just let my doctor do what he normally does.
Although during labor I want as few as possible. The nurses hurt!!

With #1 my first and only check until labor was at 38 weeks (I went into labor before my 39 week appointment), not that it is ever a fun thing to do, but it was nice to hear that I was starting to dilate!
With #2 I'm hoping to get checked when they do my GBS test in a week or so, mostly for my own curiosity.

@Springtime: I never had any. I went with a midwife group, and unless there was a problem or concern, they don't do checks until 41 weeks. I had my baby at 39 weeks. I did my own GBS swab when they were here for my home visit. I also had zero during labor.

Never...one and only check was when I was in labor at 10 cm (at 38 weeks). I wasn't planning on having them outside of labor - not sure what the reason is for them.

I have been getting them once a week since 36 weeks and I'm hoping my last one will be tomorrow 39+7 because I'm really not hoping to still be pregnant after that lol.

Techincally only in labor. My midwife only checks once you are past your due date. I had an apt at 40 weeks + 3 days and she checked, I happened to be in labor.
