@pachamama: my two girls were very similar and I never got sick. #2 was harder because I had a toddler I was still caring for so I didn't get to rest as much as with #1.

#1 was a boy and a remarkably easy pregnancy - no nausea, pretty normal aches and pains, etc. #2 was a girl and I was miserable from the get-go. But I think that was more about it being a 2nd pregnancy (everything stretched earlier and more quickly) than baby's gender.
