That had to be spent in 24 hours, how would you spend it?
Personally, I'd be on a plane so fast with DH to the Caribbean!

Shopping!! A new couch, living room rug, and accessories for LR. Then DH and I would go shopping for ourselves.

I want to say vacation, but I know I'd probably pay down more of the mortgage. I am boring like that.

We'd go buy our minivan. It would be nice to all of a sudden have $5k to soften the blow of a large purchase.

@char54: If I had to spend all 5K in 24 hours I would book a flight ASAP to the Maldives for DH, I & LO and a really swanky beach resort that we stay in a hut!
Can I get all that last minute for 5K?? LOL

I'd buy the rest of our baby things, get a new couch for the living room, and maybe pay off a few bills!

I would want to do something fun but realistically we would probably pay off school loans. Boo!

Can I get some windows for a house that fast? I would get a start on that if I could! We have 25 original windows from 1939...and windows are SO expensive!

I'd probably pay off some debt. Boring but there is nothing we really need for 5k and that'd be a nice little bite out of my loans.

@looch: Same - definitely pay down our mortgage. $5,000 towards the principle makes quite a difference!

Kind of boring, but I'd use it to replace our roof, re-do the front porch/stairs, and beautify our backyard (although it's covered in snow mostly still...)

Probably a car, or something else that I can use for a bit and then sell to get the money back!

If I couldn't save it for our upcoming home purchase, I would put it in my sons college fun or pay down my law school loan.

Responsible: pay off credit card debt.
Irresponsible: buy furniture for the home--new couch, bed frame, coffee table.

@looch: Excellent suggestion! My immediate thought was "ok I have to spend it... how can I spend it but also save it". I was thinking I would see if buying stock counted but I like your suggestion better.

I would buy all the big baby items we need, and a new couch And maybeeeeeee a louis vuitton if I had anything left over

@MamaMoose: I had thought about making an IRA contribution, but I am not certain that would qualify as "spending."
Or maybe buy some gold coins, lol.

Realistically: pay off my line of credit.
Unrealistically: buy gorgeous furniture for DDs room and a new dining room table.

Responsibly: pay off some credit card debt and pay down some of one of the cars we haven't paid off yet.
Irresponsibly: off to Europe we go!

I would love to go on a vacation but paying off debt would be more responsible.

I think a little of everything!
Pay off some CC debt
Get a new seating set for the deck
Replace a few more windows in the house (we are slowly replacing them all)
New clothes and shoes

I'm with you - I'd be on the first flight out to the Caribbean! Then I'd spend the majority of the flight thinking about more practical things I could've done with the money lol. But the beautiful beaches would snap me out of it
