I would inquire about what happens if they have inconclusive results. I don't recall when I had mine done (Panorama), but I did have inconclusive results. They repeated the test at no additional charge.

I did the Panorama and they did the blood draw at my 12 week appointment.

I had MaterniT21 done at 10w. They were kind of annoying at my OB about trying to insist I wait until 12w. I told them I knew for a fact that the test was ok to do when I wanted to, and that there was no reason to wait until 12w. They usually have people do it then because then they're pretty sure you're far enough along for it. The nurse told me something like if you're 9w6d, it won't be accurate. Since most people don't know when they ovulated they do it at 12w. But I worked with an RE and I knew within 1 day when I O'd.

@SLR: I did my blood test (panorama) at 9 weeks on the nose because I happened to have an appointment that day and it was the earliest I could take it! In fact it DID come back insufficient DNA and I had to retake it but that was because the nurse did not collect enough blood - not because it was too early. I retook it about 10 days later and have enjoyed knowing since 11 weeks that it's a boy and he is healthy!!

@SLR: oh that's surprising! The only reason mine was covered was because I was 35!

I did panorama at around 10 weeks and got the results at 12. Everything was fine.

I had mine done through InformaSeq at 10 weeks. It's true that there's a slightly increased risk of low fetal fraction (not enough fetal DNA) that early, but if that were to happen, the lab would just request a new blood sample, which could delay results, but no more than if you just waited to start. So the only real risk is you might have to get another draw, but even that's unlikely.

One word of caution: These tests ARE NOT 99% accurate. The companies report 99% sensitivity/specificity for some of the chromosome disorders tested, but that is not the same as 99% accurate. I calculated out my actual risks based on the lab information and the risk of Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), Trisomy 18 and Trisomy 13. At age 32, a negative result for any of the three conditions would be 99.99% accurate (negative predictive value). However, a positive result would only be actually positive 62% for Down syndrome, 20% for Trisomy 18 and 24% for Trisomy 13 (positive predictive value). So, basically, negatives should be reassuring but false positives are common, so don't panic if you get a positive, especially for Tri 13 and Tri 18.

Also, InformaSeq has a policy that they will only charge you $250 if your testing isn't covered by your insurance. I called them prior to getting the testing and they confirmed this. When I got the bill it was for the full amount (over $900) but I called them and told them I had been told it would be $250 and they changed my bill and only charged the $250, which I was able to put on HSA.
