Just curious if I should expect to have to take the glucose test soon or if you just had your a1c checked? I'm giving birth at a birth center with midwives so hoping to avoid taking the yucky test while still feeling nauseous

I had gd with my first and had to get tested early with my second. I passed that test, but then when I had to retake it at the normal time failed the one hour tested. I did pass the 3 hour test, but still that meant I took the test 3 separate times!

@Miss Ariel: do you have any other risk factors?
I'm really considering just keeping track of my blood sugar for a week instead of the test because it sounds awful to do the test nauseous

@MamaBear87: not really. I’m not overweight and don’t have a family history. I was 30 for my first pregnancy and I know age can be a factor though.

I had diet controlled gd with my first. I’m currently 19 weeks with my second. I’ve been having my GYN check my A1C annually since DS was born. It’s always been normal. By OB was going to order one at my first prenantal until I told her that I just had it done about a month prior. She mentioned taking my GTT early this time but she hasn’t brought it up since. So we’ll see. I’m hoping she’ll let me wait until after Thanksgiving.

I had diet controlled GD with my second baby and was tested (and failed) at 24 weeks with my third. My midwife tested my HbA1c as part of my early bloods and I was spot checking my sugars throughout the early stages of my pregnancy. I was also following the GD diet about 75% of the time since finding out I was pregnant.

I had GD the first time but I don't think she made me test early the 2nd time but I did have GD again.

@Miss Ariel: @BadgerMom: @Kemma: @snowjewelz: thanks for the input ladies! Fingers crossed I don't have to do the test early.
@Kemma: so much better than me. I've definitely been eating all the bread figuring I won't be able to soon

@MamaBear87: Second go round, they wanted me to go early in the first trimester. When I switched practices, my OB was confused by this. I hate the drink, so I asked if I could start monitoring my levels on my own. Since I knew how to properly test, he was fine with this. It was a little stressful b/c it's not like having clear numbers with the screening. I did end up having it the 2nd time, my only risk factor being I had it before.

@Happygal: so one practice wanted an early test and the other didn't?
I'm with midwives at a birth center and they're generally pretty hands off but I don't want to skip it if everyone else does it

@MamaBear87: not exactly--2nd practice still wanted it, but he was surprised the first practice ordered it at the 9 week appointment to be done right away.
I would definitely either bite the bullet and do the glucose test, or start monitoring with a glucometer early on.
