We did and never looked back. It was a fairly easy decision though because my family lives here. We now have a bigger house and a bigger back yard than we did before and than we could afford in the city. My husbands commute is between 45-1 hour depending on traffic. His commute used to be just under 10 minutes. He misses that sometimes, but the pros far out weigh the cons for us.

Not exactly the same, but my husband spent a year with an hour each way commute and it was awful. He worked 4 days a week, but the commute sucked up so much time! That was pre-baby, so it was annoying but not the end of the world. Now, if he had to do that, he'd have so little time with baby during the week. Honestly, if it was a situation where one would have a bad commute and one would have a good commute, I'd go with the cheaper house. But I'd be very hesitant to give us both sucky commutes.

@Foodnerd81: Ha! Exactly. Which is why not being in the city isn't as big of a deal to us. We do have to drive more, but we can still get to the places we want to quickly. And since we have a LO now, we're not enjoying the nightlife unless we have a babysitter, and again - not much harder then to go out!

@stratosphere: We were in the SW - Wimbledon first, then Putney. I worked in Maida Vale and he was in Canary Wharf, so the commute wasn't terrible, but wasn't great either.

I have. I couldn't deal with the commute and being that far away from my kid and dog . We moved to an immediate suburb where I can walk to bars/restaurants/grocery store/daycare and I can be at my office in 20 minutes. I work from home 4 days a week and love that I can go in if it is really needed
