I've been waking up around 2am and can't sleep I'm so tired though. Any solutions? Ps I'm only 5 weeks and my dd is an early riser so I never get a chance to go back to bed

Ugh I feel your pain! When I'm pregnant it's not so much going to sleep that is the problem, but waking up at a random hour and not being able to fall back asleep. Sometimes I take a quarter tab of a Benadryl or Unisom, but since it's such a small amount it doesn't guarantee me a full night. I don't take full amount because I bedshare with my 2 year old and feel nervous about being fully knocked out. But maybe ask your OB about an over the counter aid? If you're comfortable with that. That's my only suggestion (besides your standard: try reading a book! lol)

Me too! I go to bed kind of early, but my 2-3 hours MOTN wake makes me tired in the AM.

@MrsLilybugg: I think I'm going to get some unisom
@simplyfelicity: I'll try it!
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: boo it sucks!

I've taken a whole caplet of Unisom every night of my pregnancy per the dr's suggestion and it's worked pretty well. I'm due in a few weeks and I'm having insomnia still so they prescribed Ambien to take a few days each week as that's safe as well.

I'm almost 18 weeks and have had pregnancy insomnia since the beginning - ugh! I feel like my nighttime sleep is more like mini naps throughout the night vs well-rested REM. Sigh.
@MrsLilybugg: Oh man, if I read a book, I'd never sleep! I read until it's time to get out of bed. lol
@simplyfelicity: Straight lavender oil or mixed with something?

This happened to me last night. Wide awake at 3 AM. The worst. My toddler also wakes early @5.

I'm 37 weeks and up all night between trips to get bathroom, A's major sleep regression, restless leg, and just being uncomfortable with this giant belly.. 2 more days to go! Never really tried anything to help it besides staying hydrated and using a lot of pillows, and trying not to start looking at my phone.

It started when I was pregnant, and got worse from there. I've never been much of a sleeper but now I couldn't if I really wanted to.
I've been to some sleep therapy sessions and a few things that helped me - no electronics an hour before bed (and none in the bedroom and regular exercise.
If I couldn't sleep I'd surf the web on my phone and that wasn't helping. And I find that if I take some time every day to at least get some good yoga stretches in, I sleep so much better.

I had the worst pregnancy insomnia with my second. The only things that helped a little bit were exercise and unisom, and taking a hot relaxing shower at the end of the day. It sucked big time though

I took unisom first trimester and it was awesome. In third trimester I listened to the hypnobabies tracks (but didn't do the program). I had never tried relaxation or meditation tapes before but they put me to sleep every time. I almost pulled out my iPod a few weeks ago to sleep and I'm 4 months pp so I definitely don't need labor coaching.

@gotkimchi: I feel your pain! I wake up at 3 or 4 every night and can't go back to sleep for at least an hour.

I'm 27 weeks and up 3-4 times a night. Sometimes I can get back to sleep easily, others not so much. I have found that if I don't look at my phone at all, it is easier to get back to sleep. Also trying to read parenting books usually puts me right to sleep!! Between peeing, restless legs, and my husband's snoring, sleep has not been my friend lately!

@gotkimchi: I second unisom - worked for me. It's so mild and recommended anyway for morning sickness!

Not pregnant, but I do have terrible insomnia. And it totally got worse when I quit BCP a few months ago Like a lot of PPs, I fall asleep easily, but then I wake a few hours later and cannot fall back asleep. For me, it helps to avoid anything backlit (phone, iPad, whatever) in the middle of the night and for a little while before bed. Ear plugs and an eye mask also can help. And if I'm getting to the point where I'm anxious about how long it's been, which will in turn just keep me up, it helps to read something -- book, magazine, etc. (But again, NOT my phone, that just makes it worse!) I've heard that it can even help to get out of bed, make a cup of tea or something just to stop stressing about it and hopefully get tired again, but I haven't tried that. Sorry you're dealing with this, insomnia is awful!
