I'm starting my 8th week, and the nausea is starting to hit daily. So here's my question - is it even possible to eat healthy in the first trimester? So far, all I want to eat is eggs, french fries, and chicken soup!

Yes, it is possible but I only did it because I was diagnosed with GD early at 6 weeks!

I look at the first trimester as "survival" mode. Eat whatever sounds good and keeps you feeling your best.

I totally agree with @Tidybee: - the first trimester, you do what you need to get by.

i just ate carbs the first trimester. triscuits and rice. sometimes triscuits with cheese. that's basically it. i felt badly because you hear about all the eating healthy stuff, but the nausea eventually went away and i got to eat a balanced diet. just do what you need to do--no reason to force yourself to eat food that makes you feel ill!

Agree, eat whatever sounds good.
With my first, all I wanted to eat was strawberries, yogurt and Golean cereal, so at least it was healthy!
With my second, I could only stomach bread and grilled chicken. Not very diverse!

I say eat whatever you need to get through the nausea. After it subsides, then try to eat healthy.

Eat whatever you can and if anything that is healthy sounds good eat a lot of it! I couldn't stomach veggies but I could eat fruit so I ate a lot of fruit!

I agree with, eat what you can! If you stock up on a few really healthy options, that's great, but, the first trimester is tough, and you'll likely throw out that food!! I still have a Frosty & french fries from Wendys every single Wednesday ... Ha. Gotta give yourself a treat even through the 3rd trimester.

Eat what you can. The only way I could get around not feeling queasy was to keep myself uncomfortably stuffed. Most of that time, I was eating lots of brothy soups, which kept me full.

I hear you. I'm 11 weeks and have been eating toast, fruits, and chips. Sugar, basically. Hang in there.

@stp: Yep- sugar! My current cravings are for french fries and chips...I'm trying really hard not to give in to those too much, though!

The first trimester is all about surviving (usually off of carbs). Nothing healthy is ever appetizing. Once I hit my second trimester, I was able to stomach more foods. Then I was diagnosed with GD at 18 weeks and maintained a healthy diet.

With my son I ate sooo healthy all throughout pregnancy... yogurt and fruit were my main staples. I think I got fast food once and it grossed me out. With this pregnancy however, I've lost count of how many times I've ordered fast food. The nausea was way worse this time around. Don't worry too much about what you're eating, once the nausea is gone you'll be able to eat healthier. I'm about 13 weeks and I had salad for dinner and lunch today, so proud of myself

The first trimester was difficult. I ate what didn't make me vomit - a lot of my meals ended up being carbs and grapes. Things got a hell of a lot easier in the second trimester, and with the exception of some treats and indulgences, I was back on a healthy eating train.

For me; no way. The first trimester was pure, straight up survival mode. I never had any real cravings throughout my pregnancy; just some days where the thought of a particular food made me want to barf less than thethought of the same food the next day
Do what you need to do to get through it!!

Eat whatever you can stomach! I lived on french fries and soup my first trimester. Baby doesn't need much and will take from you what it needs first. Hang in there, it will get better in a few weeks and you'll have plenty of time to eat nice and healthy!

I believe every pregnancy craving is craved for a reason. Maybe baby needs fat from gravy. Or maybe baby is low in sodium so eat that entire family size bag of potato chips. Yep, I love my theory. Don't feel bad what you eat, just eat what you can and try and down your prenatals!

Yep, eat what you can. Take prenatals to help balance things out a bit.
