And yet their fans will continue to cry that liberal America is just trying to tear down this good, God fearing family.

Goodness. That is terrible. I just feel bad for the rest of the family (minus the parents) for having their names dragged through the mud.

This family isn't coming out of the hole their oldest son has dug.

Guys, every family has skeletons in their closet. We shouldn't judge them. His actions are no big deal.

@Truth Bombs: right, he just made a mistake as a kid and he has learned from... Oh, wait...

I feel bad for his wife... She's young with no education and 4 kids under 5(ish??) what is she going to do?! Gah. He's such a creep.

At least these ladies consented.
The schadenfreude of this Ashley Madison leak is thrilling.

The comments were hysterical in that Gawker article.
He is a serious piece of work.

I couldn't open the link earlier but People just posted an article about it.
OMG! Wow! Let's see what the Duggars will say about this now.

I have a feeling his wife will blame it on herself for not fulfilling her wifely duties or some bullshit.

@Mrs. Champagne: agree completely. This guy has some major issues, and she's had the wool pulled over her eyes for too long

I think it's incredibly sad. What really bothers me is how quickly people are to rejoice in his sin- being excited to see him fall, crash and burn. I get that he dug himself a hole and what he's done is very very wrong- but many comments I've been seeing leave me with a bad taste in my mouth that they've come to relishing people's demise.
I really feel for his family. I couldn't imagine being his wife, or child.

@Mrs. Pen: I think people are responding that way because he was the executive director of the Family Research Council, which opposes LGBT rights? If he was just a civilian with an ordinary day job, then I think the response to this (and earlier) news would be more muted...
pomegranate / 3393 posts
@Mrs. Pen: I think it's not the sin, rather the hypocrisy that gets people. Like, my atheist liberal lgbt friends have healthier morals and family lives than this guy, but he campaigns to have their rights taken away? Eff that!
honeydew / 7622 posts
It's bold to be such a public figure and keep so many secrets. Even this alone could have lost him his job. I've never seen the show but I'm not a fan of reality TV.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@mrbee: and I get that, but in my mind it doesn't make it any more okay to rejoice in other peoples wrong doings. Just because there might be someone I disagree with politically/socially doesn't mean I'm sitting here waiting for them to make a wrong move so I can pull the "ha I told ya so" card.
Would people be rejoicing in the same way if, hypothetically, obama's name was on that list? Probably not. And I don't think that would be right, anyway.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@Mrs. Pen: Maybe I'm a cynic, but I think there'd be a lot of rejoicing if Obama was found in the Ashley Madison database!
I totally agree that it feels like there are lots of people rejoicing whenever anyone makes a mistake... and with the internet, there are so many more chances to catch people in mistakes! It's a crazy world we live in these days...

@Mrs. Pen: I think him and his family treated his sisters poorly. The apologies were more excuses. I listened with confusion at a Christian radio show that defended how well the Duggars handled everything and tried to make themselves and the Duggar victims. But there were so many lies and inconsistencies they were telling. So I'm happy he got caught, very happy, because Christian radio was promoting their family and their obv messed up son as a way to handle things. And their way to handle things seemed to be shame the girls and let Josh go and learn construction and then come home and help lead the house - gross, gross, gross.

@Ra: definitely. His wife will forgive him whether she wants to or not.

So I am certainly not a supporter of Josh Duggar. Like, no way. But my husband and I were talking about this last night and agree that there's no way to know if any public figures were ACTUALLY found in the hack. If the hackers and then the sites distributing the info are sinister enough, couldn't they just put info in the "database" and say they found it in Ashley Madison?
I definitely believe it if a Joe Schmo next door is found. Because why would anyone care to plant their name/email address. But I could definitely see them being like "Josh Duggar (or another public figure) is already a dirt bag and its believable. Put his name in".
AGAIN not defending. Just generally wonder how much we can trust what some hackers or distributors of the hacked info say is true when no one has seen the raw data the collected to verify it.
It's totally believable though, I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. Will be interesting to see what he says! If he denies it or cops to it and makes some excuses.

So, this information came from a hack of the website. Anyone could have used a josh duggar email address. I personally don't like the guy or anything he stands for, but I am not so quick to make the connection that it is he who actually registered.
Eta: exactly, sweetie pie.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@looch: it isn't just his email address. It contained billing information with his name and actual addresses.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@travellingbee: That information came from hackers, maybe they didn't mess with the data, but maybe they did. His addresses are public record, how do we know the billing information is real? I don't want to live in a world when we take hackers as the authority.
The guy is not cool, but he shouldn't be subject to having his personal information made public. Now, if he comes out and says yes it is indeed true that if he set up his own account, then I take it all back.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@looch: I wasn't saying it was necessarily true info. Just you said, anyone could have used his email address and I was noting that it was more than that.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@travellingbee: you're right, it is more than just an email address and it seems extremely plausible.
But I could write "code" that looks like that too, from information I pieced together online.
grapefruit / 4321 posts
@Mrs. Pen: I'm one of the people who is really really happy about this. The Duggars aren't an anomaly. Families and churches across the country treat molestation in the same wildly unacceptable way that Josh's case was handled: they shame the girls, "rehabilitate" the boys, sweep it under the rug and move along. If this situation serves as a wake up call that results in better treatment for just one girl who was the victim of sexual assault, then I'm all for it. Josh Duggar doesn't deserve my sympathy.
