@Snowybreeze: Welcome! Spotting in pregnancy is so stressful. I'm glad that your LO looked good on the ultrasound. Hopefully everything will be okay!

@dc yoga bee: I have heard hormones peak around 9-10 weeks... maybe that is why? This week has been rough for me too, nausea-wise. I hope you feel better soon! If you're open to the unisom at night, I really think it helps.

@dc yoga bee: Mine may be starting now at 8 weeks - maybe. I woke up at 1:30am Friday night/Saturday morning and absolutely puked my guts out. I think I just ate something that didn't agree with me but DH thinks it is morning sickness. I guess we'll see.

My appointment is tomorrow afternoon and I'm really excited about it!

@Mrs.KMM: @78h2o: I had MS this evening too after eating some mashed potatoes with dinner. It's looking like any sort of dairy is making me sick I hope it doesn't last long!

@dc yoga bee: I can't have milk this pregnancy. My stomach doesn't like it at all. I get nauseous and tired after eating too much.

Man, I had dental work done when I was like 4 or 5 weeks pregnant and they had to place 3 permanent crowns without any anesthetic. Since I wasn't comfortable with x-rays, they wouldn't use permanent cement (since I guess they need to verify the fit before they cement them in for good), so they used temporary cement. They swore it would last me through the pregnancy. Well, Saturday night, one of the crowns fell off! I am going to have to try to get them to put it back on tomorrow...which will be a huge pain, since I work 45 min from home/dentist's office. I am really hoping it doesn't hurt like it did last time! I really don't want to get the anesthetic until I am out of the first tri, if I have to get it at all while pregnant. Stupid teeth!

@dc yoga bee: hope you feel better! @cascademom: that sucks for you both about the dairy. The only specific food that hasn't sat well with me so far this pregnancy is donuts. I wanted one once after @cascademom was talking about them, but it promptly came back up. I tried one another time and also felt ill after a few bites. Oh, well, there are worse things.

@78h2o: Donuts are my major craving. DH wanted to get me a baked potato from Wendy's today, but I'm not craving it. With LO, I loved baked potatoes. This one, not so much. Proves once again that every pregnancy is different.

I still haven't had any specific aversions but sometimes nothing sounds good and then days like today I have wanted to eat a lot of everything! Still having a seasick type feeling and my doctor gave me samples of Diclegis but I still haven't tried it. Anyone have any experience with it?

@Mrs.KMM: @dc yoga bee: @78h2o: ms sucks hope u guys feel better soon. I have horrible food aversions. Basically everything healthy I was eating before I got pregnant is now an aversion. It sucks because I was doing really good with being in shape and eating really healthy.oh well there is always after

@dc yoga bee: complete crap food. Its terrible. I read on HB somewhere about sucking on jolly ranchers and that works but so much sugar! I cant eat fruit or any salad just thinking about it I feel the saliva coming and I have to swallow so I don't start dry heaving. I have eaten pizza, burgers and I can only eat a plate lunch from a place called rainbows...so unhealthy. Bagels and cream cheese and cereal. Just the opposite of what I have been eating

  19. dc yoga bee

    grapefruit / 4770 posts

@BabyMats: I was leaving for work and got sick in the parking garage. I'm staying home today and gonna ask the doctor to call in something. Pizza and burgers made me sick too! I had a banana for breakfast and that didn't last. Jolly ranchers, peppermints, ginger ale, and sprite are only things not making me sick!

@BabyMats: me too on being so healthy before morning sickness. Carbs and sugar make me feel normal. I rationed donut runs before getting pregnant. Now, it's like survival. Bananas are good for leg cramps. I walked LO in the stroller to get some because we didn't have them in the house for a week.

@dc yoga bee: This is coming from stuff I've read, not personal experience, but have you tried eating something small/light like crackers first thing in the morning before you get out of bed? Could you be waiting too long before eating? Obviously this doesn't explain the rest of the day but might help start the day out better?

  22. dc yoga bee

    grapefruit / 4770 posts

@LindsayInNY: Yeah, I keep a packet of saltines at my bed, and eat a handful of crackers first thing in the morning when I get up (5:30-6:00am). I just had more saltines because I'm hungry, but scared to eat!

  23. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@dc yoga bee: Maybe try and stick with mild BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) type foods to see if that helps? I hope things start looking up for you!!

  24. dc yoga bee

    grapefruit / 4770 posts

@LindsayInNY: Thanks. I had a banana for breakfast...that I tossed. I can't believe this, but we had some tostitos tortilla chips in the cabinet, and I cautiously ate one. And then 10. It's been 30min, and I'm not sick, and have a little bit of energy. I sent an email to the nurse line to see if I can get a prescription for something, and I'll pick up a few more bags of these chips when I go to the pharmacy!

  25. LindsayInNY

@dc yoga bee: Haha, who would have thought Tostitos would do the trick?!

@rpparker: Diclegis is a combo of extended release doxylamine (same med as Unisom tabs) and B6. It is Cat A, meaning studies of the drug used in pregnant women have shown no increased risk. My doc said it is expensive (though I had read on HB of people getting it for $30 with a coupon), so she recommended I just keep taking Unisom/B6 as I had been. It has been pretty miraculous for me. I still feel icky at times, but without it I am throwing up every couple hours. It made me a little tired at first, but my body quickly adjusted. Now I even take small amounts during the day if I am feeling sick.

  27. dc yoga bee

    grapefruit / 4770 posts

@78h2o: Unisom?? Is that over the counter? It's a sleep aid right? Do you take it during the day? The doctor's office opened at 9, and I'm still waiting on someone to call me back/answer my email. I may go pick some up if it's over the counter since I took the day off anyways.
ETA: I just re-read the last sentence of what you said

  28. 78h2o

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

@dc yoga bee: I ate a lot of chips with my first pregnancy. Chips and bagels.

  29. 78h2o

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

@dc yoga bee: Yes, it's an OTC sleep aid...it's an antihistamine. Most antihistamines have some anti-nausea properties (Dramamine and Promethazine (Phenergan) are also antihistamines used to treat nausea, but not used as much in pregnant women). Get the Unisom tabs not the gel. The gel is basically Bendryl, which you don't want. Has to be the doxylamine. It comes in 25mg tabs and Diclegis is 20mg. I started taking 1/4-1/2 tab (6-12mg) at night with 25mg B6. After a little while at 1/2 tab, I increased to my estimation of 20 mg (~3/4 tab) at night. Usually that is enough, but if I don't get enough sleep, I will need some more in the morning to counter the extra nausea I get with insufficient sleep (<8 hrs). I take about 1/8-1/4 of a tab of Unisom + 25mg B6 in the am and again in the late afternoon (without B6). The max Diclegis dose is 40mg at night, 20mg in the morning, 20mg in the afternoon, so I just stay under that. Unisom is actually Cat B, but only because it did not have studies in pregnant women like Diclegis, but my OB said they are the same.

ETA: I think they also recommend you take it on an empty stomach, if possible. I aim for that, but take it even if I've eaten if it's that or not take it at all.

@78h20: Thank you for the information! I ended up taking it last night and slept great and feel much better today. My biggest issue this morning was trying to find something to wear that didn't make me look pregnant! I still have a while until I tell work! @dc yoga bee: I hope you enjoy your day off and start to feel better!

I am in the waiting room for my appointment and am soooo nervous. I go to use the bathroom and of course I see brown spotting for the first time. I know that it shouldn't worry me, but it's sort of like really?!

@dc yoga bee: oh that sucks! I hope u feel better.

@cascademom: haha. I actually cant stand donuts and a pt brought some for us and I scarfed it down so fast I was quite embarrased at how quick it dissappeared

  34. dc yoga bee

    @BABYMATS: thank you!

@Eko: Good luck with your appointment! Hopefully the brown spotting is just old breakthrough blood.

The doctor's office finally called me back, and they called in Zofran. I picked it up from the grocery store, walked into the door, and immediately started throwing up. I just took one whole pill. Gah!

@dc yoga bee: Oh my, you poor thing!!! I sure hope it helps!

  36. 78h2o

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

@dc yoga bee: aww, I'm sorry you are feeling so awful. I can totally empathize!!! I only gave Zofran a short trial with my last pregnancy...I felt like it helped with the vomiting, but didn't take away the nausea, so I stopped because I didn't feel like it was worth the risk of the medication (I had just had a loss, so I was ultra paranoid - I am less neurotic/more open to meds now). I may not have given it a fair trial though. ETA: I take Zofran when I am vomiting due to migraines...they gave me a melt version that works better if you can't stop vomiting long enough for it to dissolve in your belly... just a thought in case you have the regular kind and can't keep them down long enough. Feel better (and do try the Unisom tonight!).

@Eko: Ugh, I hate spotting!!!! I guess the good thing is that you don't have to wait long to find out what's going on. My fingers are crossed that everything will look fine. Keep us posted.
