I've had 2 LEEPS years ago. My OB was concerned at the beginning, and did a baseline measurement at around 10 weeks. Starting at 16 weeks, I got u/s every 2 weeks to watch for any shortening or funneling of the cervix. I'm 23 weeks currently, and it's been 3 weeks since my last u/s. I haven't had any changes, but it does make me a little uneasy. I'm glad my OB decided to play it safe. I talk about it a little bit on my blog, if you have any questions let me know. I agree - I'm interested too. I had a LEEP when I was much younger and my doctor said the longer I went before trying to carry a baby the better it would allow my cervix to heal. However, my current doctor has also told me that when I get pregnant I will be more likely to end up on bed rest due to a weakened cervix.

I had a leep done about 6 months before I got pregnant. The midwives did not seem concerned but my gyn told me all about the risks before I had the procedure and it seemed scary. I started spotting lightly around 13w. I was nervous about it so I had an internal exam but everything looked ok. At my a/s around 18w, they checked out my cervix and it still looked good. Since I continued to spot I had another u/s to check it out around 24 weeks. The spotting finally went away so I didn't have any additional scans or exams for that reason. I was really nervous because of the spotting and the horror stories you hear but so far my cervix is still holding out at 36.5w.

@duckduckkristen: I had a LEEP done 11 years ago, and I'm being monitored for incompetent cervix. Starting at 14 weeks, I've had bi-weekly ultrasounds, and will until 26 weeks. The OB told me that it's a very low risk of happening (1%, like you were told) but they like to monitor just to be sure. I'm not worried too much about it. Plus, it's extra chances to see the baby! Hubs and I are running out of room on the fridge of baby pictures!

@Eiko2010 that's great to hear! When I finally do get the BFP I'll make a call to insurance right away to check coverage on this, but it's good to hear that I shouldn't have a problem.

@Laylabelle that's good to know. I think I'd want my doctor to do a cerclage if he/she had any doubt I'd deliver pre-term. To me, better safe than sorry.
