@Arden: A tour! hahaha, that sounds like such a good idea. I probably won't do it though - we have two hospitals in my city and I'll go whereever they tell me, haha. Although I think I'm going to probably just have to go to the one where my hematologist is at.

@Adira: I'm going to tour all three birth centers in the area and meet the midwives to see who I am most comfortable with before I choose. I would rather have a home birth, but we live really far from the nearest hospital in case of the need to transfer, so we're going with the birth center. They are all freestanding, but within a mile of the nearest hospitals.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Arden: That's a good idea. It's cool that you have freestanding birth centers that you can go to. I don't think we have anything like that here.

Just wanted to let you all know that my blood tests came back positive and good, so hooray!!! I'm over the moon! I knew they would, but I was still nervous for whatever reason!
Re: Midwives - I want to start looking for one, but we're talking about moving about an hour away and I don't know how to go about this if we're moving. Do I look for a midwife here, or where we think we might buy? What if we don't end up buying?! I'm so confused! LOL! I don't even know where I'll end up giving birth! I've emailed our midwives association for advice in the meantime.

@Mrs. Mousie: Are you planning on a midwife for a hospital birth, birth center, or home birth?
cherry / 141 posts
@Arden: Most likely a hospital birth. I'm in Ontario and I know there are birthing centres that are planned on being open here, but I don't think they'll be ready by the time I am! Such a shame!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Arden: I live about an hour outside of Boston. I'm sure Boston would have birthing centers, but we're sticking with in-town if possible. Plus I'm not sure, but I may just have to go to the hospital where my hematologist is so he can monitor me. But I'm meeting with him next week, so I'll find out more then.

@Arden: Thanks! It looks like there is one three towns over, but it's pretty out of the way, so I'm not sure it's really an option. And the next closest is an hour away, so it looks like a birthing center is out for me!

EDD: March 17

Then we want to after first ultrasound to tell close friends and then after that 12-13 weeks.

How far along?: 6 weeks, 3 days (BUT I have another appointment next week to double check dating...I have no idea of O date)
How long TTC: n/a
First child?: Yes
Any feeling about boy/girl: I REALLY want a girl, so I'm thinking it will be a boy--but I will love either!
First doctor's appointment: Last Fri, and I go again next Wed.
How do you feel?/Symptoms so far: Queasy/nauseous/gross all the time, ever since 5 weeks 4 days. Tired and boobs are sore, but mainly I just think about not throwing up constantly.
Who have you told?: Only DH and 1 friend, who is also pregnant--it was so nice having someone to chat with about it!
Side note: is anyone else taking progesterone supplements? My doctor said my level wasn't as high as he'd like, so I'm taking a pill every night during the first trimester. I don't think it has made the nausea any worse, thankfully. I'm trying vitamin b6 for nausea, not sure if it's helping or not but I haven't thrown up yet (although sometimes I wish I could).
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@tororojo: Welcome! No progesterone for me but I haven't been the doctor and never been pregnant before, so not sure I have an issue with it.

Aw! Congratulations to all the new March mommies!! So sorry for my long absence, life has been chaotic!
EDD: 1 March
How far along?: 6 weeks, 5 days
How long TTC: we weren't trying...
First child?: Nope, I have an 8 year old too
Any feeling about boy/girl: praying for a boy
First doctor's appointment: was 28 June. 2nd one is tomorrow. Then next Thursday I go to the genetic counsler. First ultrasound is 7 Aug and first appointment with the high risk OB is 13 Aug
How do you feel?/Symptoms so far: nauseous and achy... sore, expanding boobs and a little cramping
Who have you told?: my mom, my daughter, my boss, my BFF
@tororojo: I took progesterone with my last pregnancy (a miscarriage at 10w) and I'm on it this time too. It makes me dizzy and intensifies the nausea that I get from my vitamin. But I'm also taking it twice a day...
grapefruit / 4669 posts
Woke up today feeling almost normal; this is the least queasy I've been in a week! Maybe I'm getting used to extra progesterone...or maybe this is just a nice break, guess I'll find out. Hope you ladies are feeling well and doing well!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@tororojo: Ooooh! Glad you're feeling better! I hope it lasts for you. My nausea tends to come and go. I tend to feel more nauseous driving than anywhere else, but I definitely have an aversion to certain foods, which is soooooo new for me.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@tororojo: Glad that you are feeling better!! Hopefully it stays that way for a while.
@brownsquirrel: Welcome!
@Adira: What foods can't you eat?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I bought this big box of White Cheddar Cheez-Its because I LOVE them and I was like "Crackers, they'll be good" and now I can't eat them!!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I should ship my box to you since I can't eat it! It's weird because I crave carbs and cheese, so you'd think they would be delicious, but the thought of eating them turns my stomach! WTF body!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Maybe the baby just likes his/her veggies. If I can't eat carbs I will be so sad. I also am really missing my turkey wraps for lunch.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Well, I can eat OTHER carbs. Like a bag of Cheetos, yum! And pastas and breads don't bother me, although I can't eat bagels, which is odd. I can have bread and english muffins, but bagels are unappealing (and I used to have a bagel EVERY morning). It's weird the things I find unappealing now!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Good news that it isn't all carbs. I am obsessed with the Natural White Cheddar Cheetos. Have you tried those? I haven't had an cravings or aversions to anything yet but I am sure it is coming.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yes!!! I LOVE those and luckily can still eat them!!!! I need to buy a bag so I have something to snack on, haha. I hope you don't have any annoying aversions when it shows up!
cherry / 141 posts
@tororojo: I felt awesome yesterday. Today's been 50/50. I was feeling queasy earlier. I went to the bank and then over to the grocery store (we desperately need groceries). I parked the car, looked at the store, thought "Nope.", turned the car back on and drove home, LOL! Here's hoping tomorrow is a better day for me I'm sleeping much better the past few days than I was last week thank goodness.
No big food aversions here, other than anything greasy. I had a craving for KFC early on and it made me feel so ill anything that's not a fruit or veggie completely turns me off! I keep wondering if I'll end up losing weight at the beginning of this pregnancy since I'm eating so healthy these days!!! (I typically AM a healthy eater, but this is pretty extreme for me lately!)
grapefruit / 4669 posts
Do you ladies get concerned if symptoms disappear? I feel ridiculous about this, but ever since I woke up this morning I haven't felt nearly as nauseated as in the past few days. Right now I actually feel HUNGRY, not just pukey...so I'm worried that as of today, I'm not pregnant anymore. I felt so bad yesterday that I started crying, and I've been praying that the nausea would go away, so I am basically crazy. Any other crazies out there? I wish there was a surefire way to know right away that everything's good inside!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@tororojo: Yes! My nipples weren't as sore earlier so I just kept thinking something bad happened. But now they are back in force. I think I am just going to be crazy until the first ultrasound and then till I hit the 2nd trimester.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
Is anyone else keeping a pregnancy journal/book? I think that I am going to take a picture each week and answer the same questions each week, The standard ones that most blogs have. Then probably put it all together on like shutterfly or a site like that.
grapefruit / 4669 posts
That sounds like a fun idea! We took a week 6 picture and plan to take one every Sunday to see the bump progress. I haven't thought about doing a journal...it would be nice to have one of those from my mom to see what her symptoms were like when she was pregnant, so maybe I should do that in case I've got daughters someday!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
I probably not going to do a journal, although I could. I'm taking a picture every 4 weeks and I started a blog that I eventually will share with family so they can follow our journey and see updates on our kids. I might end up taking the pictures and putting them in a journal though. It's definitely a cute idea!
cherry / 141 posts
@Smurfette: I have a pregnancy journal I bought at Chapters and write it, but I also started a personal one from me to the baby online (Penzu.com). You can save it all as PDFs and print them out later, so I'm going to do that. I'm also going to start doing the weekly photos soon, I just have to finish making my little chalkboard with to write the week # on
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. Mousie: Fun! I wanted to do a chalkboard but I couldn't find one I liked. I wanted/needed on on Sunday for my 5 week picture. I wanted to start from the beginning. So I just got a dry erase board and lots of colorful markers.

Is anyone else having pain? Almost very day I've felt some light cramping pains that only last a minute or so and then go away. I thought it was gas pain at first, but it's been happening a lot, like every day.
It's worrying me, and the thought of an eptopic pregnancy did cross my mind.. but I'm trying not to think about it.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@Arden: Just popping in from the Feb board to say that I've had light cramping for the past few weeks. I'm 8 weeks now and its definitely less frequent than when I was 5-6 weeks. From my understanding, the pain from ectopic pregnancies is much more severe. Try not to worry (I know how hard that can be though!)
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Arden: I have been having cramping off and on the whole time. What I understand it is completely normal. But I totally understand it is so hard to not worry and obsess that it is something else.
