in that situation I would push your doctor for a follow up ultrasound in two weeks - reiterating your concerns on the GA difference. I'm not sure your history so don't know it you have any previous complications to use in your argument.

FX it's nothing to worry about but it's not right for them to let you worry for 2 months.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: How fast was the heart rate? That might be the reason why she's unconcerned. I went in for my first U/S with my first pregnancy at 8 weeks. I was measuring at only 6 weeks and the heart rate was below 100. They brought me back the following week and there was no HB. My doctor had warned me at the first U/S that since the heart rate was so low, it was likely that I was going to miscarry.

If the doctor saw the heart rate at like 120+, then she might not be as concerned. When is your next appointment?

My LO always measured a little small based on LMP, but it still lined up within a few days of when I thought I ovulated. I would push to get another check sooner rather than later. Hoping for the best for you!

I would push for another u/s or pay for an elective u/s elsewhere for piece of mind.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: So sorry you are going through this. I would also push for a repeat ultrasound since it's a two week difference.

When I went for one of my last appointments they couldn't find a HB with the doppler and I was nearly 13 weeks. Pretty scary, but without me even asking they rolled in the ultrasound machine and baby looked fine and they got a HB that way. Maybe you can just request that they do that at your next appointment just so you have peace of mind? They hear the HB and you see baby, so win win for all.

I'm sorry you're going through this! I would definitely push for another ultrasound, even just for your own peace of mind. I might even call another OB/midwife for a second opinion, especially if your first OB is giving you a hard time.

Are there other doctors in the same practice you can ask for a second opinion from?

My SIL warned me about one doctor in the practice I use, but you have to cycle through all of them so I saw her early after our BFP. At my first ultrasound there was no heartbeat and I was measuring a few weeks behind. The doctor was very dry, business as usual, and didn't do much to answer questions or ease our concerns. She told me to follow up in 15 days with an U/S.

I knew something wasn't right so I made an appointment with another doctor in the same practice (I talked to the on call nurse about what I thought was wrong and they scheduled me with someone the next day). The new doctor said 15 days of waiting was too much to expect me to go through and ordered blood tests and a follow up U/S in 6 days.

Overall I LOVE my practice, but if I can help it, I will never see that one doctor ever again.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: If it was a few days later than I thought I would not give it a second thought but 2 weeks is a lot, espceially if you know your LMP. I would request a second ultrasound.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Thank you! The original one I was talking about was my first loss. I recently had another loss in September, but we knew immediately that there wasn't much there.

I'm very much hoping that you just ovulated late and you're a little behind, but definitely ask for another U/S!

agree with everyone about the 2nd ultrasound. that's what I got when my first ultrasound at 8wks measured behind (but it was with an MFM due to repeat loss so I had a different situation)

I was 8w LMP but I knew I ovulated 4-5 days behind the CD14 assumption. I measured 6w4d-6w5d which made them pretty nervous, but had a good hb of 143 (not audible, they measured it on the screen somehow, everything was SO tiny). by my follow up I measured right on track (9w1d exactly 2 weeks later) with what I thought based on ovulation. so there's definitely a margin of error, but they should absolutely follow up and see where it goes.

eta: LO is 2 now and I had a healthy pregnancy from then on.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Definitely push them for another! I personally would insist on another in a week. That is enough time to determine if appropriate growth is happening. If they deny you, it's time to look for a new practice in my opinion.
I've been through that situation twice and if my doc can't put me at ease by doing a few extra ultrasounds, then they aren't the doctor for me.

@SweetiePie: I agree! My doctor gave me weekly ultrasounds in the beginning bc I was a mess since I had spotting and a prev miscarriage. There's no reason for me to see a doctor who isn't sensitive to their patients anxiety

My outcome wasn't great. I measured a week behind with a low HB (<100). I ended up miscarrying that pregnancy.

I hope that's not what's happening with you, I would definitely push for an u/a sooner though. Just for peace of mind!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: I agree it's a great thing that your doctor was so reassuring. Maybe see how you are feeling in a while and if you want to go back then call.
