We should have our NIPT results next week. We want to know the sex. I'm assuming when my office calls me, my husband won't be around. If this was the case for you, how did you handle finding out the sex? Did you find out ahead of your husband and just tell him? Or did you ask the nurse to call back and leave you a message with the sex?

I asked my genetic counsellor not to tell me when she calls to fell results. She's going to put it in an envelope and we will open together. We discussed this when I filled out paperwork for NIPT. I am meeting with her afte NT scan so she'll give me my envelope then! I think I want to wait until Mother's Day if I can!

My scan will be about one week after results are back.

When my office called with the results, I quickly said I don't want to know the gender. I just want to know the other results. I then I picked up my results from the office and asked the receptionist to put the results in an envelope and also asked her to write gender in a separate envelope. ETA: How exciting that you will get your gender results soon!!

@delight: mine is actually almost 3 weeks later....not an NT scan, more of a mini anatomy scan. I'll be 14+1 then.

I asked for a callback that I let go to VM and we listened together when DH got home.

Do they tell you all the results at once... the genetics results and gender? Is it your physician who tells you, or someone from the NIPT company?
It would be so hard for me to wait to know the gender if I knew that info was available... I'm terrible at waiting!

When my dr called with the results he asked me if we wanted to know the sex... I wasn't expecting him to ask and was caught off guard (I was a naïve first time mommy!!) but I blurted out yes, and he told me what the "blood work showed" but assured me that it might not be 100% correct bc it was so early.
it ended up being correct.

@Goldengirl: a nurse from the office calls....maybe the OB calls if the NIPT results are bad. I'm not sure which. But they do offer both sets of results via phone.

I panicked and said yes, so I found out on the phone. DH wanted me to tell him in person, so before I went home I ran to target and picked up a little dress to give him

I found out over the phone and then texted DH a pink heart. He had an important meeting that day so he couldn't take a call for a few hours and I don't keep secrets long.

I found out and then bought pink cupcakes for dessert that night to surprise DH.

They told me over the phone and then I turned around and called my husband. It'll probably happen the same way again.

Yah know, I really don't recall discussing this with DH or how I told him after I got the call. I do recall that we went through all of the results first and that was the very last thing. The OB said, so I have one more piece of information how do you want me to handle it. I know she told me, but then I don't remember how I handled it. I'm sure I just called DH and told him.

@Goldengirl: It's greater than 99.9999% accurate, at least Panorama is, according to their posted stats.
@winniebee: When I found out mine they called and left a message and said everything was good and to call back if I wanted the gender. I called back and asked the receptionist to email it to me. Then I closed my email and turned off all notifications on my phone. Later DH and I went out to dinner and read it together. I think the receptionist thought I was a little weird, but whatevs. It was perfect for us.

We discussed beforehand and his preference was for me to find out ASAP and then tell him. He didn't mind not finding out together. So that's what we did! I found out over the phone and then called him.

@winniebee: I'm high maintenance and asked my OB office to put it in an envelope, then I asked my husband to swing by after work and pick up the results and surprise me with the info when he got home. But he stopped at the store before coming home and bought a random gift to symbolize the sex instead.
It was a super cute idea....(but the gift was confusing--I think it was like, a gender neutral toy that he thought seemed girly)

I got a call from my OB where I needed to go on some meds. She wanted me to call the geneticist since it had been a week or so since the test. I called and the geneticist told me the results over the phone. I called my husband and parents with the news of the gender. The geneticist told me that she saw "a lot of Y chromosomes." He was confirmed a boy later during the ultrasound and at birth.

@Goldengirl: @winniebee: @ShootingStar: It's true that wrong gender is uncommon, but it does happen. I know two different people that got the wrong gender by NIPS!

When they called to give me the NIPT results I panicked and wasn't sure if I wanted to know the sex so I asked them not to tell me!!! A few weeks later at our anatomy u/s we caved and they told us there. I'm glad we found out together!

I got my results via email. I didn't wait for DH, so I made a sign saying "congrats daddy, it's a girl" and put it on the door.

@delight: it my understanding for NIPT that it is at least 99% accurate.

@winniebee: are you not doing an NT then? I'm not doing IPS with all the blood work, but am doing a 12 week NT scan.

@delight: no I guess not. I called today to confirm that they didn't want me to do one. Nurse said since doing maternity21 I didn't need NT as well.

Midwife called with the results and asked if I wanted to know. It happened that DH was taking the kids to the playground while I was "making dinner" so I quickly ran out and bought every pink food I could find. When they came home the table was full of everything pink.
