We're talking about LO #2 being close in age to LO #1 which is terrifying and exciting. I know I've read your milk supply can dry up- which would devastate me!
Does it happen right away?? Would we have to wait until 1 year to TTC to avoid it? Would it be insane to try and pump now and freeze it?

I got pregnant a few days after my DD turned 1. By the time she was 15 months old I had dried up completely.
She still comfort nursed throughout my entire pregnancy and at almost 2 years old she's still nursing 2x a day..

I would wait until your baby is 10-11 months at least to be sure. My toddler nursed until about halfway through my pregnancy but it was seriously tapering off after a couple months. By then he was partially on cow's milk so it was fine.

I got pregnant right before my LO turned 8 months and my supply was dried out when she turned 9 months. I had a huge freezer stash of breast milk...enough for feedings for 5 more months. I did supplement with 1-2 bottles of formula for daycare but she still drank mostly BM and ate solids.

I would strongly suggest you wait until LO is a year before you TTC if you want to continue BFing. I got pregnant (planned) when DS was 7 months and my supply dropped pretty much as soon as I conceived, but it took me awhile to realize it. Around 9 months we started supplementing with formula and by 10.5 months I had stopped BFing completely. I thought I'd be able to nurse him longer, so I was a little sad for awhile.
Also, BFing while pregnant makes you so hungry! I woke up every few hours at night starving and had to eat.

If it's not too personal, had any of you ladies seen your period return before you got pregnant with #2?

@duckduckkristen: I cannot imagine being any hungrier than I am BFing alone, let alone also being pregnant. I eat in the middle of the night I'm so hungry! Thanks for your input... that is what I was thinking but hoping not to be true

I have already noticed a huge decrease in supply and I am only four weeks along. My LO is 10.5 months.
I just ordered "more milk two" by motherlove which Is an herbal supplement designed to increase milk supply while pregnant. I will let you know if it works!

sounds like a freezer stash is a great backup plan, but there are people that are able to continue BFing & make enough so they don't need to supplement. my mom got pregnant with me as soon as she started my brother on solids at 6 months & was able to continue BFing him until after he turned 1 and never needed to supplement with formula.

@mrs. bird: interesting. i had not heard that but it is encouraging! we're sort of thinking of 6 months as a time to NTNP especially if I'm period-less but I'm trying to balance baby fever with breastfeeding realities!

I'm still nursing our daughter at 15 months, and I'm 14 weeks pregnant right now. My supply tanked once my fertility returned, but I was able to get it back up with an extra nightly pumping session and mother's milk tea/ more milk tincture that I used before I got pregnant. I stopped that once I was pregnant, and I'm just trying to drink as much water as possible and eating full-fat foods to keep my supply up. I'm still losing weight but my midwife isn't too concerned...yet.
We're still trying to figure out this cows/goats milk thing with some skin issues, so nursing is still really important to my daughter's diet. On average, she nurses 4 times per day (more if she wants) and she doesn't seem frustrated.
On the other hand, my friend has a 10 month old, is 12 weeks pregnant, and is having a hard time with her supply. She also admits to not being super great about pumping when she's away at work and I don't think she's taking any tinctures that would help.
