@TFrances: I need to improve in all those areas as well. Great idea to focus on them! I also want to hit 6 pumps a day at least. With all my appointments it hasn't been happening. If I can hit 6, then next week I'll aim for 7. Baby was just awake and per peds instructions I left all lights off, turned on calming music and ignored. Here's to hoping I can get an hours of sleep now that I've pumped.

@ladybee: today and tmrw are my first time all alone day and night until DH comes home tmwr evening. Last night she fell sleep on me twice. By the grace of god she was safe. I'm hoping today I can rest when she is asleep. I'm also fighting some major drainage and hoping I don't get sick.
I think you got some great goals and I think it is good to take it a week at a time. I hope today goes well!!!

@ladybee: I read your other thread, please let us know what the doctor says! And I hope that today is much better and you are able to pump at least six times.

@Jennimac: I worry a lot about Hyla sleeping on me, because that is the only way I can guarantee that I get some sleep and there is minimal fussing to keep my husband awake. She snacked from 3:00-7:30, so I dozed between feedings and she was asleep on or next to me for the majority of the time. If I put her in the Moses basket there is a lot of sleep fussing. Isis not intend to co-sleep, but it seems that that is what works for us right now.

Is anyone having trouble with tendinitis? I have had it in my thumb/wrist before, and ya coming back now that I hold hyla so much and pick her up a lot. She also outgrew her NB diapers (sob) so we are in size ones. She needs to gain two more pounds before I can try the cloth AIO on her.

    pomelo / 5073 posts

@evansjamie: I had tendinitis after I doeiveRrd the first time. It was from picking things up, which is why it usually shows up after you deliver because you are picking up the baby. I had to get a thumb brace. When I did that, it got soooooo much better. I actually found my old brace and I wear it occasionally now. I make sure that I'm not bending my wrist a lot so that helps. Mm is actually sleeping right now and I did some chores around the house. I'm hoping tonight will be better. I'm going to have to put her down before I fall asleep.

Welcome welcome to all the new babies!!!

This parenting thing is EFFING HARD. I knew it would be, but wow. I don't even know where to start, though I've posted quite a few threads, so if you are inclined you can go to my profile to see them & read about all the different issues we are having.

The main things are that LO is fussy & we don't know what to do for her, she lost a bunch of weight & we had to supplement, and I am still dealing with my birth & postpartum experience emotionally. I am going to the midwife tomorrow to get my stitches out & I want to try to talk to her about it calmly & rationally. My hospital seriously failed us to the point that we will probably deliver elsewhere next time, even though I love my midwife practice.

I am going to update the list soon, and then I'm thinking I might try to get a little "quiz" going that we can update with info about our babies like some of the other due date threads do. I know I should be "sleeping when the baby sleeps" but if feels good to do something other than nurse & rock LO!

@daniellemybelle: yes!!! It's amazing how I'm loving laundry. Anything to do when baby is sleeping. LO slept well this morning, but anytime I try to put her down this afternoon, she is up in 10-20 minutes. Hopefully tonight she will sleep.

@daniellemybelle: First, I want to say I've read your threads, and I am so sorry that you didn't have the birth experience you wanted. You absolutely gave birth and earned it. I hope your pain subsides soon.

Hyla is fussy a lot, and gas drops help some. She also likes bouncing on the birth ball, which gets a burp out of her when nothing else does. She also likes to be held and sleep on or near me. I am definitely a reluctant co-sleeper, but I will do anything for sleep. I'm trying to wean her off of sleeping on me (says the woman currently holding a sleeping baby), and I hope she'll be in her crib by six weeks. I am looking forward to resuming sexy time with my husband.

Hang in there, it does get better.

@daniellemybelle: So sorry you had a bad experience. Here's hoping your next baby's birth (if you decide to have more) goes more smoothly. I have had two c-sections (both planned, but first not my choice) and I have to say that I had pretty decent experiences. This last time, I had more complications due to lots of scar tissue and throwing up afterwards. The key to recovery is rest and going slow. I remember the first time attempting to go grocery shopping with my mom 3 weeks out. I about passed out in the store. I definitely overestimated my strength and endurance. This time I know to take it slow and just love on my baby more. He's what matters. And don't be afraid to ask for help.

@abbylyn: I have 4 nipple shields (at $9 each... Glad that BF thing worked out for me, ha!) If you want them (sterilized of course) they're yours- just let me know!

Things have been getting a little better over here. Hopefully 2nd ped appt tmrw (well 3rd technically) goes well. Effie is generally super well behaved and lets us know what she needs- who knows how long that will last, right?! I'm getting better at the pumping thing but am still trying to get my insurance to provide a better pump. Also trying a sleep sack instead of swaddle tonight- my girl loves to move her arms! Wish us luck!

In the meantime - had to share this sweet photo of my girl!

@kjpugs: maybe. What size are they? Lucy's been on the boob for the last two hours, oy. And it's sooo hot in my apartment. We don't control the heat, and once it's on, they don't turn it off again til spring. It's really going to suck later this week when it's 70 out.

  17. TFrances

    apricot / 286 posts

@kjpugs: Adorable picture. Arthur makes that face often. We have our first peds appointment tomorrow... we'll see how it goes.

  18. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@abbylyn: they're Medela brand 24mm size. I know that might be weird/gross to suggest LOL but two of them barely got used and it seems like such a shame to throw out nearly $40 of shields especially when they can be sterilized. Just thought I would offer

  19. abbylyn

@abbylyn: darn! Oh well do u have buy buy baby? It might be worth buying a few with one of the $5 off $15 or 20% off coupons from there or bed bath beyond. I know how important it is to have a few.

  22. abbylyn

    apricot / 298 posts

@kjpugs: not close to me. But I can get them at the breastfeeding resource center nearby, and they sell them at retail price. As long as I don't lose it over a weekend I'm good!

Good morning ladies! Great to hear that things seem to be getting better for most everyone!

@kjpugs: adorable!!! I'm also thinking of getting a better pump and/or maybe a different size flange would help me. Needless to say, I just don't think the Ameda Purely Yours is working that well.

@abbylyn: not being bake to control the heat is the worst! I always felt like my skin was going to flake off it was so dry from the heat. Of course you found your shield now that you bought a new one.

@daniellemybelle: hope things are getting better for you. Hang in there. It gets better !!!

All is well with us. My mom is coming today for the rest of the week and I am psyched to have an extra pair of hands to help out with the babe and get some things done in our house.

If you've read my posts then you know things haven't been going well over here. Baby boy cut me some slack and slept in 3 hour stretches and DH let me sleep 5 hours before he went to bed. The cruddy part is that I'm not getting to see DH but sleep is precious these days.

On another note today is going well (knock on wood). Giving up pumping has been such a blessing. I do have mommy guilt but the pressure I was putting on myself was crazy. LO and I cuddled, took a bath and napped today. Much better than me on the pump crying.

@ladybee: I am so glad that today is better! Happy Mama = happy baby. I hope his feelings continue to stretch out so you can be a well rested pair and see your husband soon.

I tried something new wit he bath today. I showered first, and then left the shower running (spout pointed straight down) and bathed Hyla. She loved it and it kept her warmer. I also used the (clean) peri bottle to rinse the soap. Bonus: since she had an epic poop right before her bath, I used the shower sprayer to hose her off.

If you follow me on Instagram, you've probably seen this picture, but not the alternate caption. I took this at Panera the other day (hyla was not impressed).

It's hard living the thug life, drinking boobie milk all day and partying all night.

@ladybee: I'm glad today is going better!!!

@Sadieloo: I loved when my mom and two of my sisters came to visit. It was so great to visit with them and it was nice to have someone else hold the baby.

  29. ladybee

@evansjamie: the peri bottle is a great idea! Did you take the baby into the shower or just bath her in the warm bathroom?

@ladybee: hugs yo you. Glad yo hear that things are getting a bit better. Here's to hoping things are on the up and up for you.

@evansjamie: awesome pic and caption. Great idea with the peri bottle. Of course I threw it away.

@Jennimac: totally agree. It's also really nice to just have the company.

@ladybee: I took her into the tub. We only have one full bath, and it's small, so she gets bathed on a bath sponge in the tub. @Sadieloo: I still use it occasionally (great for rinsing soap off my lady bits), but it was great for keeping water and shampoo out of her eyes.

@TFrances: did you decide to drop pumping and Ff? I remember you considering it.

  33. TFrances

    apricot / 286 posts

@ladybee: yes, we completely dropped pumping yesterday. I wasn't doing anyone good being so stressed and in pain. Things are much calmer now. Don't regret the switch at all.

We had our first peds appt today. Arthur has exceeded his birth weight and doing great. Plus he gained an inch.

  34. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@TFrances: I dropped as of yesterday as well for all the same reasons. Now my boobs are killing me but it'll all be better in the end.

  35. abbylyn

Lucy had her first real bath tonight, and it wasn't a complete disaster Now she's all warm and snuggly and clean baby smelling, and it's making ME want to go to sleep

  36. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@ladybee: I'm still pumping (it hasn't been a stress to us yet) but I had the same PANIC/guilt about introducing formula. Totally feel a thousand times better tho. E is above her birth weight now, super happy, and 50% weight / 90% height! I will have no hesitation to drop pumping if it becomes the emotional mess that BF did. That stress is just so bad for baby it negates the benefits of the milk!!!! Glad you're feeling better.

  37. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

So a lot of you have mentioned your LO's are fussy... But I am a little worried mine is extra fussy & something I am eating is bothering her, or something else is wrong. She pretty much cries anytime she is awake and not eating. She fights sleep. I am frazzled! My mom keeps telling me it's so early still but I am scared of having "A Fussy Baby."

  38. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@daniellemybelle: honey I'm sorry this has been less than what we wanted for both of us. I'm not sure what makes a fussy baby but I think you should trust your instincts.

  39. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@daniellemybelle: Hyla was extra fussy in the beginning and it turned out that we had thrush. My mommy gut told me something wasn't right, and even the nurse at the ped said she had never heard of a 10 day old baby having thrush, but I was right. Trust your instincts.

She's still fussy now, but we are learning her different cries so it is getting better. For instance, I'm extremely familiar with her "I've crapped myself get this diaper off of me" cry since it happens as soon as we get in the car. It takes time, as I am learning. It would be great if an instruction manual tailored to each child popped out with the placenta.

@evansjamie: Haha that would be pretty handy and I wouldn't mind pushing that out
