I am currently 36w4d. My due date is 7/11, but at my ultrasound on Monday I found out that my son only has one kidney and that my amniotic fluid is measuring low.
At this stage my fluid numbers need to be between 8-25, and mine were at 5.3 on Monday. So they recommended that I drink a TON and then come back on Thursday to get checked again. And if the numbers aren't high enough, then I will be admitted and this baby is coming early.
My first son was born early. 37w5d. But if it's go time on Thursday, I will be 36w5d. I know the most important thing is to do what's healthy and safe for baby and I. But I'd really like the baby to have a little more time inside. And I also really wanted to get my GBS test results this time around. I didn't have them before being admitted last time and I was treated as if I was positive. But it turns out I was negative and I didn't need that medicine in my system. I feel like it was one of the contributing factors to my unsuccessful breast-feeding experience.
I don't have any specific questions tied to this post. I guess I just wanted to share my story. Did anyone else have low fluid and have to deliver early? Does anyone else have a kiddo with one kidney? It's actually an unbelievably common occurrence. Still, I can't help but be a little bummed that there's nothing I could have done to prevent the lack of kidney development.
Here's hoping I still have some more time to provide for him on the inside. But if it's time to deliver tomorrow, I'm as ready as I'll ever be.
