Pregnancy After IF Support Group #2

Questions to all, how long did you continue seeing your RE after finding out you were pregnant?
If for a while, did they continue to do beta's and progesterone/estrogen b/w?
What were some of your progesterone numbers in tests beyond your first beta?

@agold: Just the same old mess! I am absolutely petrified. Next scan is Friday (I'll be 6w6d) - my newest worry is that a) there will be no heartbeat now, or b) the baby won't have grown much and I'll be in panic stations.

@YogiRunner: Thanks hun! I remember being nervous after IF with Georgia's pregnancy, but this is like... a whole new kettle of fish. I'm expecting bad news at every turn, which isn't healthy, but man, I just can't help it.

@waiting4you: My doctor only did Beta's until they reached 1,000. First beta at 11dp6dt was 179. Second beta at 14dp6dt was 809. Third beta at 17dp6dt was 2,753.

I continued to have my blood taken every week thereafter. I never asked what the purpose of the bloodwork was for but I can only imagine that it was progesterone and estrogen since those were the shots I was taking. I never asked about the numbers of those tests.

@jaguar: I'm so sorry you are so nervous. But as far as you know, your baby is growing good and has a heartbeat! That's all you know. So just stick with those good thoughts!!

Hi girls. I thought I would join up with you on here. Having a rough night tonight. I'm 5w3d today and saw some brownish spotting on my pad when I came home. I have to wear pads everyday because of all of the discharge from the Endometrin & Estrace (sorry for the TMI). I'm freaking out! Why does this have to be so hard ? 1st US is tomorrow thankfully but I'm going to be a mess until then. I'm just hoping this is a side effect of the suppositories. I've been getting some sharp stabs in my hip area too- not cramps. Could everything stretching out in there be causing this? I don't know- just hoping it's nothing.

@dookie32: try not to worry! Spotting is normal but I totally get it! I had some right before my first scan as well...can't wait to hear about your first scan!!

@waiting4you: I had 3 beta levels taken and then 2 scans, I was released to my ob at 7 weeks or so. I can't totally remember by progesterone levels, I think my first one was 70 or 80, and the subsequent were around 50.

@waiting4you: I'm seeing the RE basically through 9 weeks assuming there's a hb again next Monday. They only did two betas, presumably because things were looking good. They didn't test P and E2 -- maybe because I'm on Crinone and that doesn't always show up in the blood? I don't know. We saw a hb at 7w2d so hopefully we will next Monday at 9w2d, then graduation!

@dookie32: So hoping it's nothing! I had some brownish spotting one day and that was it. I have to wear liners, too, because of the Crinone. (I take Estrace orally -- do you take it vaginally?) Another day I bumped my cervix with the Crinone applicator and got some bright red drops but that was all. Glad you have a scan today -- please let us know how it goes!

@jaguar: I'm so sorry you are freaking out and am especially sorry about the bleeding. You may or may not know, but I have been freaking out so much since I got pregnant with a FET. I had one cramping incident and full bleeds from week 5 through week 13. Full bleed not consistent, but brown spotting 100% of the time if not full red bleed. Anyhow... the baby is fine and it has fully stopped in this 14th week. I've heard that bleeding is common with IVF pregnancies. So if the doctor isn't worried about the bleed, then you should try not to worry either. Easier said than done, I know. Around week 9 for myself, I stopped worrying as much because worrying is exhausting! Cheer up friend and think positively!

@Mrs. Pinky: I can't believe it either! It's really surreal and still doesn't feel real at this point. Remind me where you are at in this journey, please!

@waiting4you: I continued to see my RE until the 12th week, although I did pop in at my OB for a 10 week appointment. There's where/when I was told about the genetic testing options.

@NorthStar: We'll be looking out for your join! Wishing you all the best!

@agold: Thanks, hun. I'm trying to breathe, but then the cramps or the spotting will knock me back down again. I started spotting again yesterday.

@jaguar: I know the anxiety you are feeling. One time I had red bleeding with CLOTS! I thought for sure I was doomed. But really... the baby has been doing great! You did a FET, right? Do you get weekly ultrasounds from your RE?

  19. jaguar

    pomegranate / 3764 posts

@agold: Yeah, my big bleed last week was clots. I was sure it was over.

This was a FET, yep, all HRT so artificial EVERYTHING. I'll be on progynova (E2) and progesterone until 12 weeks.

I'm actually already seeing my OB because I'm considered high risk with the previous m/cs, so he's doing weekly scans for me. x

  20. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@jaguar: Hey! Not artificial everything. You cannot artificially cause the embryo to fertilize normally, continue to grow after fertilization, implant, and then continue to grow after implantation. So seriously.. I don't even consider IVF or FET to be artificial. Just my two cents and personal justification!

And that is so great you are getting weekly scans. Hopefully those help you a little with the anxiety.

We're back from our u/s (7 weeks 2 days) and as many of you guessed...IT'S TWINS!!! We were able to see both heartbeats clearly, though baby B is measuring quite a bit smaller than A. Baby A measuring at 7 weeks and baby B was 5 weeks and a day or two. Dr said he wouldn't speculate but to be mentally prepared for possible vanishing twin. So while we're super excited, and insanely overwhelmed!!!!!!, we're cautiously optimistic! I think my words were OH F%#K when he said, oh here's another heartbeat!
*wish our u/s pics were clearer! We saw it clearer in person.

@waiting4you: I graduated from my RE at I think 9 weeks. I had HG and they let me come in at fluids at 8 weeks. At around 11 weeks, I was feeling sick again and I was hoping my RE could let me come into their office to get fluids again but unfortunately they said they told me to talk to my OB. I knew my OB doesn't do fluids in their office and I knew my OB would tell me to go to the hospital. I ended up getting really bad that weekend and puking every 5 minutes and ended up in the hospital for 4 days.

Congrats on your twins!! Cautiously optimistic for you, too!

@agold: @jaguar: @Amorini: @Mrs. Pinky: Hope everyone is doing well!

@agold: @bluestriped bee: @delight: thank you ladies! I'll have to do some research on size difference and success rates though I'm sure it'll just stress me out! Makes sense now why my numbers are all so so so high! Also, when we transferred 2, one was hatching and one wasn't yet, so not sure how much of a difference that could make (though I think it would just be a day or two and not more than a week, but what do I know?!) Next u/s is on the 9th and I see the OB for the first time on the 11th (a new one).

@waiting4you: congrats!!!! Fingers crossed both continue to stick. When is your next u/s?

@bluestriped bee and @agold: my first OB appt is Tuesday so I'm looking forward to that and hopefully seeing both little ones! I'll be 9wks2d at that point.
@jaguar: I hope that spotting stops, it's such a stressor. Glad you are continuing to closely monitored.

    @jaguar: How are you doing???

@bluestriped bee: I'm doing pretty good! Thank you for inquiring. I love when I get to read about you and your twins!

@Mrs. Pinky: Hooray for an upcoming OB appointment! I just had my first/second OB appointment yesterday and there wasn't an ultrasound. I did get to hear the heart beat, though!!

@waiting4you: Congratulations! Now I don't have to eat my hat after all. Keep growing, baby B. How were their heartbeats? xx

@bluestriped bee: @agold: @Mrs. Pinky: Thank you for putting up with my crazy, you guys. Only odd brown spotting now (which OB can STILL see no reason for, sheesh) and baby is still growing. One day/scan at a time.

    @jaguar: Olaf keep growing!!!

I had brown spotting at 8 or 9 weeks. They said they think it was a SCH and they upped my progesterone shots.

@jaguar: Hooray for growing baby!!! I bet you must feel so relieved to see the growing baby. Also, brown spotting is sooo much better than red spotting. At my appointment yesterday, the OB said she STILL sees my brown spotting but, like you, zero known source. Its such a weird thing. I was told still no sex and I'm having an ultrasound at some point that will check for the position of the placenta and that will determine if I can have any sex at all during this pregnant. Poor hubs. But you - you have a growing baby!! Hooray!

  31. jaguar

    pomegranate / 3764 posts

@bluestriped bee: I'm on basically the max ridiculous pessary dose I can be on (no PIO shots here) - 3 times a day, 600mg a pop. Exhausted!!!

@agold: Yes! Definitely. Red gives me grey hairs. I have no idea what's going on with it. I also have a fair bit of (TMI?) egg white jellyish mucous, which OB isn't concerned with either. No sex here ... everyone is still being cautious. Our poor hubbies! It's going to be a LONG few weeks. *hugs* I think they did full placenta checks at the 20 week morph scan, from memory?

  32. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@jaguar: Oh, good. So placenta check is a normal thing? I think mine will be done at 19 weeks. Doctor said that depending on that scan/placenta location, I may or may not be able to travel for a babymoon.

  33. waiting4you

    apricot / 344 posts

@jaguar: lol, I remeber you saying that the other day you were right! Heartbeats were clearly visible though we didn't hear them or have them measured today. Next u/s is a week from Wednesday with the IVF dr. And 2 days after that with our new OBGYN. So incredibly unsure if baby B will hold on. Going into this I was really convinced it was one and really wanted one, but after seeing the 2 heartbeats now I'm really pulling for these 2 babes to be healthy and strong!

@agold: Yep! I had G's morph scan at 19 weeks, actually. That was the best scan we had, baby had grown so much, and we actually got to see her little face up close. So sweet. I hope yours has settled to a good place by then!

@waiting4you: That’s awesome- hearing the heartbeat is always a relief! I hope #2 keeps getting stronger!

@agold: Even though I can’t wait to get into the later weeks with the OB I dread the Doppler only checks. I don’t know if anything changes with an IVF pregnancy (and now the dreaded AMA) but I know that we didn’t have an US with my 1st pregnancy from the 1st one (8 weeks) until the anatomy scan at 20 weeks. If we make it to that stage not having any reassurance for a long time is going to be hard.

We had our 1st US on Wed- a big relief since everything looks good so far! Saw a gestational sac & yolk sac so far but that’s it since it’s still pretty early (5w4d). My 3rd beta was 13,027 which is still pretty high so haven’t ruled out the twins possibility yet but only 1 so far. The tech told me she did see a SCH near the sac which may explain the spotting- she said I may get more (so far only a bit more brown). I’m not sure if it makes it better or worse knowing that- better I guess. With all of the drugs (still on Endometrin and Estrace along with the PIO shots) I think my uterus is pretty beat up so I’m sure the possibility of spotting will be there until I stop them. Next US is next Wed- should hopefully hear the heartbeat by then.

I also went to my 1st therapy session on Wed. I decided before we knew if this FET was successful or not that I needed to talk to someone about all of the anxiety surrounding this process and a potential pregnancy. The practice that I went to specializes in infertility counseling (the 1 doctor actually went through IVF). 1st meeting was just a get-to-know-you session but I’m hoping to just learn some strategies of how to manage the anxiety. I know I’m not very good at it and I already know myself well enough to know that there will be no amount of milestones that will relax me with this pregnancy!

Ack! So much good news and juicy updates. I love it. I'm still at work (east coast!) so I need to respond quick and head home to hubs.

@dookie32: So exciting you saw the flicker. I'm glad you are seeing a therapist who specializes in infertility. I'd LOVE that if it were available. Ours is pretty good (we are doing marriage counseling) and had some "infertility lite" but not the same....Even still, we work a lot of things out in there.

@agold: I missed you are having a girl! So many big congratulations! How wonderful. I can't wait until you see her face, too!

@waiting4you: Go, babies, go! Yeah, I responded on our due date thread, but hoping little B catches up and that both little gummy bears are healthy.

@jaguar: Could the eggwhite be the pessaries/Crinone? I get runny eggwhite and have to wear a liner. Joy, joy. I'm so glad Olaf is going strong. Out! Damn spotting. ...if only for your nerves...

@Mrs. Pinky: Yeah, I have a similar week next week! I hopefully have my last scan at the RE on Monday (9w2d) and then my first OB appt (9w6d). I was going to go to the OB today, but rescheduled for next week ... I'm on the fence about them or a midwife so I'm doing some research between now and then.

@bluestriped bee: I love hearing about your twins, too! Things are going pretty well. I've had days this week where I can fit into normal pants for first part of the day and that made me nervous as I've been bloated ever since transfer! And then these last two days, at the end of the day, my lower insides (cervix area) feels stretch and crampy... a little too much like AF for my liking. So I'm mostly trying to push out the scared thoughts but sometimes they come creeping. Really hoping to see a good strong gummy bear on Monday!

    @waiting4you: congrats!

@jaguar: looks gorgeous. So happy for you

And if anyone is worried about brown spotting, it could be the crinone. It can cause some really funky stuff to show up (the one time my crazy googling gave me a reassuring answer!)

AFM, this is my public service announcement to hydrate like crazy. I was only a little dehydrated but had to be admitted to the hospital with contractions at 30 weeks. All is fine, nothing indicated preterm labor, but so scary, especially for gun shy me. At least we had a bonus us and got to say hi to lil bub on the screen!

Need advice! I'm kind of freaked out right now because I had my bloodwork come back from my doctor and I have low iron and low platelets. I'm not worried about the iron, she put me on a prescription supplement and my iron has always been borderline. But I am concerned about the platelet count. Has anyone else dealt with this?
