Pregnancy weight gain if you were at a healthy weight/BMI pre-pregnancy

I gained 33, most in the second trimester, and pretty much none in the last 2 or 3 weeks (I delivered at almost 42 weeks). I'd lost all but 10 after a few weeks, and about all of that 10 is still with me! 10 lbs makes a big difference when you're 5'2". Breastfeeding my 10 month old, but the weight won't budge.

I started at 130 (5'7") and weighed 170 when they checked me into L and D. I had really wanted to stick to a 30 lb total but that clearly didn't happen. The last few weeks of the third tri I started gaining 2 lbs per week. I definitely gave myself a free pass to eat more dessert than normal (can't wait to start eating a cookie w lunch again when preggy). I only exercised a little (like 1-2 times/week yoga videos).. I lost 20 immediately, 10 more by 3 months and the last 10 gradually throughout the first year. Finally back to prepreg weight.

@anonysquire: I wouldn't call it a hall pass, because I did make a conscious effort to eat a balanced diet but I also have into cravings. I gained about 30-35lbs with my second pregnancy, and nooooone of it is coming off despite diet, exercise, and breastfeeding.

There was no way I could exercise during pregnancy. I was out on pelvic rest, then modified bed rest, and I had SPD. There were days I could barely walk and the sound of my pelvic cracking sent shivers up my spine.

I consider it a huge win that I only gained 30-35 considering I spent my pregnancy on the couch.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: oh man my SPD this time around is so bad. My mom was telling me yesterday that I better start exercising so I can have an easier labor. Since my labor last year was pretty easy, I'm happy doing the little I can do!!

@anonysquire: get a support belt!!!!!! It's the only thing that remotely helped me. I felt like I was broken in half. I didn't have it with my first, but with my second I felt like someone was pulling me apart like a wish bone. It was the most painful, awkward sensation in the world.

The doctors said Charlotte was head down longer than most babies are (?!?) and putting pressure on my pelvis, which is what caused my early SPD (I started feeling it around 15/16 weeks) and her plagio and torticollis. It's like she was STUCK there. Ugh. Shivers, I tell you!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: does it help of you don't have much to support? Oh man, I hope baby #2 doesn't have head problems as well I've seriously had this pain and sciatica since my 6 week appt lol.

@anonysquire: I bet it does. I didn't get one until I was 28 or 29 weeks and it made an immediate difference. I wish I had one earlier. It acted like a brace for my hips- so I could get out of bed easier, walk easier, just move easier in general. I didn't get that achy, crackly feeling as much as long as I wore it.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: ok, I'm going to get one. Do you have a reccomendation?

@anonysquire: I ordered one on amazon & it was a gabrialla (yes the a, not e like you'd think). I honestly loved it. I ordered an L or XL, and it lasted me through the end of my pregnancy, when I gained the most of my weight and my hips got the widest. It pulls very tight and is Velcro, so my rec would be to order up a size since you're at he beginning of your pregnancy!

I had to check my blog, but by 20 weeks I had gained 6 pounds, and by 24 weeks I had gained 12 pounds. I gained more and more as time went on. Almost 40 pounds near the end.

I was worried too. I have back issues and my doctor said the number one thing to do to avoid back problems for me was to limit weight gain. I was 120 pre-preg.

I ate very healthy - but I was just so.darn.hungry. I could have eaten every second of the day. I wrote a whole post about it. I used to say the "pregnancy isn't a hall pass" thing, but now I totally don't judge people for gaining so much weight. The baby needs what it needs, and it will get it. Just like if you don't eat enough calcium the baby will get it from your bones. Amazing the way the human body works.

25 pounds down by 10 days postpartum and then the rest was gone by 4 months.

The second I saw a 25 week preemie that could fit in the palm of my head, I looked at my 8 pound newborn and thanked God for every single one of those 40 pounds.

I was very thin before my first, and fought hard to gain 30 lbs by 41 weeks. I was within a few lbs of pre-preg when I got pregnant the second time, and couldn't gain more than 18 lbs. I was extremely ill each time, worse the second, and only lost weight until 20 weeks with both. I started losing at the end again with my second, too. I would have rather worried about gaining too much!

I really appreciate everyone contributing your experience! It looks like there's kind of no method to the madness....You can gain minimal weight in the first half or more and then your weight can go up several pounds a week each week in the end, or you can gain it all in the first 2 trimesters and have it majorly taper off.

And everyone who did the pregnancy pass thing and lived to tell about it at a good PP weight - I'm jealous of you! That wouldn't happen to me. I'd be a huge mess and then would be miserable after I had the baby and had so much to lose - I know it wouldn't just fall off.

I'm going to monitor my weight and food intake and hope for the best here. I really want to feel as good as possible about the way I look pregnant, and let's face it - be as close as I can to my normal size 2 PP so that it doesn't take as long to get back into my clothes.

I'm giving birth in the spring and we live at the beach. No pressure

@PrincessBaby: just eat healthy stuff and don't go without food if you're hungry and you should be fine! Between whole food choices and exercising, you're doing the best you can do. Just make sure you don't get into obsessive disordered behavior. After all, not many can live off McDonalds and not have it show

I was ~110 pre-pregnancy, didn't gain at all in the first tri (I might have lost a few from MS and gained it back but basically it evened out) and last I checked I was up 19lbs. With 8 weeks to go, I am hoping to stay around 25lbs total. I am really petite, so I feel like that's plenty. 40 extra pounds on me would be a lot different than 40 extra pounds on someone who's 5'7"
