@Pepper this sounds a lot like my experience. I started out spotting brown/pink then the day I went in for my 6-week ultrasound I went to the bathroom right before going into the room and I had tons of bright red period blood. I can't believe it happened right before the u/s because I got to go in and see the heartbeat (but I'd gone in for a u/s the week before at 5w3d and only a sac, no beat). I continued to bleed -- when I got up from the u/s and wiped with the paper sheet, DH blanched bc there was so much blood. But it almost as quickly went down to brown then continued for a week before it stopped totally. They have no idea why it happened - there was no sub chorionic hemorrhage in the scan or anything. My midwife just said some women are bleeders!

    Btw I'm 26 weeks now.

Could it be a Subchorionic Hematoma? I have heard those cause heavy bleeding in early pregnancy, but do not harm the baby.

Thanks everyone I know I'm still at risk (they consider any bleeding a "threatened miscarriage", apparently), but I was just so thankful to get some good news when I was expecting the worst. Thanks again for all the kind comments!

@travelingbrit: Yes, they have checked my levels. Apparently they're pretty high because I'm on progesterone suppositories twice a day. That would be my first thought, too!

@ladyfingers: Our stories do sound very similar! It's so frightening to see such heavy bleeding so early on. I'm glad things are going well for you

@erinpye: I asked them about that, but they just kind of brushed off the idea. They said it was too early for me to have one....? Weird.

@Pepper: oh good. I took the suppositories during first tri too so that was a first thought.
wishing you a happy, Healthy uneventful remainder of pregnancy.

@Pepper: When I had bleeding like that they said it was a bubble in my placenta. Glad things are going well for you!

@Pepper: Glad you got some good news!!! Just to reiterate, I had a subchorionic hematoma they found at 6w, and it had already caused me some bleeding even though it was SUPER TINY. So if you had one that was barely there, it could still cause bleeding. But they have to look for it on ultrasound, and it sounds like they didn't specifically try to find one, but I'm sure at your next u/s appt, they will check it out really thoroughly. I'm so happy for your good news!!!

@Pepper I had a threatened miscarriage at week 7, just after my first ultrasound where we saw the heartbeat. Same thing- they figured it was a M/C until they did another US and saw the heartbeat. I did 4 days of bedrest and knock on wood haven't had any problems since. I heard the heart beat last week at my midwife appointment. Hoping that this is the last scare you have with this pregnancy.
