Hi! I was told by my sister that since DH and I are having a girl they want to throw us a small baby shower again. We had one for our son who will be 24 months. They want to do this and we appreciate it but it’s not necessary. However, they are doing it anyway. It will be family and my close friends(5) people. Should we do a small registry or is that tacky? I don’t know what’s helpful or appropriate for the family and close friends. Thanks.

Personally I’ve done a (private) registry for every baby, just for the completion discounts
You could make a small registry, and just share the information when and if people ask?

@bees_knees: Yeah it would be small and probably at Target lol. The usual. I know ppl at work will ask too but i don’t expect anything i just feel like it’s helpful and people prefer it cause they want to get something. I hope that makes sense.

@cake2017: as long as you aren’t randomly posting the link or Facebook or something, I think that’s fine. I never know what to get for second babies or beyond.

Not tacky. My sister threw me a sprinkle for #2 and I had an Amazon registry with the most boring things on it since my kids are only 2 years apart and same gender/season.

Yes, do a small registry, but put whatever you need on it. You can justify it by saying that you need these items and want to take advantage of the completion discount. I felt uncomfortable aboout this but did it even though I was having a second girl 20 months after my first girl. What I did was keep my amazon registry private, I added a few low budget items, and then shared it only upon request.

I was in the same boat - very similar ages and gender. I didn't want to make a registry nor expected a baby shower. I got very few inquires from my family and some friends.
But my husband family - which is most of our local family - kept pestering me for registry and when the shower was. I finally caved ti the registry and had it to reference when asked but never shared it.
I kinda felt it was a social/regional/economical difference.

My sister threw a shower for my second. I didn’t make a registry and requested no gifts, but people brought gifts anyway 🤷♀️ It was pretty much all clothing, which is actually really what we needed (we also had a girl after a boy). But I don’t think it would be a huge deal to make a small registry and just give people the link if they ask.

I also did the registry mainly for completion discounts. But I also put a car seat on there since I knew I could reuse our infant car seat but would need a new convertible car seat once she outgrew the infant since our oldest was still using her convertible car seat. I also generally just asked for diapers, wipes, a few new infant swaddles and blankets since those were somewhat worn out from the first go around, and some new crib sheets. We also had a larger space once we had our second so I registered for a couple items I didn’t have space for the first time, like an exersaucer and freestanding high chair. We kept it pretty small though.

I definitely would. I had a sprinkle for my 2nd baby, despite not really wanting one. But, if it's going to happen you might as well set one up. Mine was mostly diapers and baby toiletries. Since you're having a different gender, and especially a girl, you will probably get tons of clothes.

I did one at BabyList and Amazon just for the free box of stuff they send you! The Amazon one was just really helpful to track stuff we needed or needed to replace.

@cake2017: Amazon is great because once you spend a certain amount off of your registry (easy to do if you end up needing a double stroller), then you get a pretty sizeable amount to spend on diapers and things. I got diapers and also liners for my diaper pail. Really a nice kick back.

@agold: @cake2017: you can actually use the Amazon completion discount on two different orders! Which is awesome if you find some big ticket items on sale or something and you want to snag them right away. For example, with my last baby I used one completion discount in Black Friday (stacked all of my Black Friday sales with the 15% off completion discount!) and then another in January after the baby arrived
