@lulu22: that sounds horrible! I hope everyone's back to 100% soon.

Last time I worked right up to my due date since I felt fine, so I'm hoping to do that again. I get mat leave and since my last pregnancy work now gives 4 weeks pto, so I won't have to dip as much into my sick and vacation time :). Which is great, as all this house stuff is taking days here and there that I didn't plan on.

@Mamag511: I haven't told work yet. It's been easier cause I've been working at home for a month but when I go back I'll be almost 16 weeks so I think I'll have to tell them.

@Mae: I feel like most docs wouldn't recommend elective ultrasounds but I'm sure they are fine. I agree if you're not comfortable you should try a second opinion.

@StrawberryBee: oh wow that's so good you worked right up to the date! I couldn't have done that last time as DS was breech and his head was jammed under my ribs so I couldn't take more than 20 steps before running out of breath! Hopefully it will be better this time!

@lulu22: I'm going for a scheduled c section so that will likely be early sept (first few days) so I'll probably go off in early August. I had lots of issues with my hips by the end of my pregnancy I asked to be signed off medically early. I'm lucky as I can use my sick leave before my mat leave, then take my full name leave after baby is born.

@Banana330: I'm thinking the same might be good for me, as the last few weeks were super hard for me last time too. I have not decided between VBAC or repeat c section yet, I need to talk to the OB about it more....

@lulu22: I plan on working until baby comes. I'll talk to HR though, I wouldn't mind having a set time off if it didn't cut into my vacation time.

@Mae: its so frustrating when docs can't give a good reason for suggesting something. What does pelvic rest entail?

@Mamag511: Work still doesn't know, but I'm not showing. I have a long torso and am a FTM, so I expect to go a few more weeks at least. I'm pretty private at work, so I'm not exactly looking forward to telling everyone.

@lulu22: With my dd, I worked up until I had her. I'll probably do the same this time around. I'm between a repeat cs and a vbac as well. I was really surprised that my OB really seemed to leave it up to me at my last appointment. I'm leaning towards a cs but not totally set yet either. I think I want to talk to a couple of the obs in my practice to get a feel for a few more opinions before I decide!

@Bibliolove: I'm the same way with work. It was very overwhelming for everyone to know at work last time. It'll be interesting to see how it goes this week once I start to tell people!

@StrawberryBee: We're all off for the snow today too!! Hope you are enjoying your day!!

@Bibliolove: I didn't tell last time until 4-5 months. There's no rush. Although it does feel nice for it to be out there.

@Mae: Sorry about the bleeding and pelvic rest. I had major bleeding with my first pregnancy and my doctor end up saying that it was either a very large SCH or twin m/c. I hadn't had a sono previous to the bleeding episode so I'll never know. He did put me on progesterone to stop the bleeding and prevent m/c, along with a few weeks of pelvic rest.

@StrawberryBee: I worked until I gave birth with both kids too.

I only have about 20 days of PTO so I'll use that for about 3 weeks of my leave. I usually like to take 8-9 weeks of maternity leave before sending kids to daycare, so for the rest of the time I'll have docked pay and probably miss about 2 paychecks.

    papaya / 10343 posts

@lulu22: I worked until 41 weeks last time and plan to work until the end this time too probably. There isn't really any way to take off time before birth except vacation and I prob want to save that for after the baby comes.

@lulu22: With LO#1 I stopped working at 36 weeks only because it was Christmas break and I didn't want to go into labour overnight while at work (my water broke overnight when I would have been at work)

This time I work days so I think I'll just keep working until I go into labour.

@Bibliolove: no sex, by any definition. nothing strenuous otherwise.

I'm surprised there are so many c-section mamas in here! I was feeling alone. what are you guys considering in rcs v. vbac? I wanted a vbac so bad and I just feel like it isn't going to happen. i'm trying to come to terms with probably having a rcs and look at the benefits (certain due date! known evil v. unknown! no risk of emergency c! no vaginal damage!).

It's not that i'm scared of surgery. And the type-a part of me is drawn to all the knowns of rcs v. vbacs. But having to spend an extra 2 nights in the hospital + lift restrictions for 6 weeks really have me down. My kiddo is such a mama's girl. I can't imagine not being able to carry her for 6 weeks!! That's really the biggest thing for me that is making me so bummed about the idea of a RCS

  15. Banana330

    nectarine / 2317 posts

@Mae: Honestly I don't want to ruin both bits I've requested a gentle c-section with immediate skin to skin and delayed cord clamping. My midwife said it generally required one extra person in the OR but since I have a midwife it should be ok. Also the OB who did my emergency c-section does them so it should be easier to get one. I've heard scheduled c-sections have much better recoveries than emergency ones and I wouldn't want to go through labour again and then need a c-section!

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Banana330: lol no i totally get that. so many of my friends have had serious damage done with vaginal birth, and like... i don't want any part of that! hah. just... the lifting thing

  17. Banana330

    nectarine / 2317 posts

@Mae: ya I haven't really though of the lifting but friends have said there are ways around it. Lots of climbing on things and helping and sitting on your lap.

  18. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Banana330: lol I feel like we have very different kids. It's not that she NEEDS me to lift her. She just WANTS me to. More than anything else in life (both in quantity and importance)

wow, so many strong mamas working up to their due date! I always forget that is standard in the USA... in the UK and Australia women usually stop working a month before their due date, but then, they get a year of mat leave so I guess it's more feasible.

I found out today that I might have a blood clot I have been getting a warm sensation in my calf lately and I mentioned it to my midwife and she made me call my dr right away who saw me within 30mins and has now referred me to the hospital for further assessment and a scan. I really hope it's nothing. I am due to be at the hospital in a couple of hours.

  20. lulu22

    apricot / 306 posts

@Mae: I have not decided yet but I'm leaning towards a VBAC. One reason is because I found the c section recovery so hard last time. I don't do super well with surgery. The other reason is because DS ended up in the NICU for a week, which the drs said was likely because he was a little early (37.1) and his lungs didn't get the squeeze that they would have vaginally. I would do anything to avoid another NICU baby, I found it heartbreaking.

But with that said, I do have this fear that I will labour and try to push then end up with an emergency c-section after all, which just seems like the worst of both worlds... that is what is keeping me on the fence!

  21. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@lulu22: wow keep us updated! Fwiw my brother has had blood clots and it's all ok as long as they catch them I think. Good job speaking up when something wasn't right!

  22. Banana330

    nectarine / 2317 posts

@lulu22: wow, that's good they followed up so quickly. A friend had blood clots and they caught it earlier enough for them to be dissolved with medicine.

  23. Mamag511

    apricot / 309 posts

@lulu22: Glad they saw you right away and you're where you need to be to get everything looked at! I agree, keep us updated...thinking of you!

@Mae: To be honest, I'm definitely torn between the decision of a vbac and a repeat cs. I had an emergency c because my dd's hr kept dropping when I was in labor. It honestly was pretty scary to have everyone keep running into the room. So, from that point I lean towards having another cs. I'm not sure if we are done with 2 kids (might want to go for one more) so that's what makes me lean towards a vbac. So I'm not sure. My gut tells me I'm more likely to go with a repeat cs, but I want to get a few more opinions of the drs at my practice first. Like some others have said - I also heard the recovery from a scheduled one isn't as bad.

all good with the scan, no clotting! Phew! At first they were a bit worried because in addition to the warm feeling there was also some redness and swelling... but the scan came up clear! Probably just a nerve or muscle thing. I'm really lucky that my local hospital has a brand new ambulatory care unit which means really fast access to diagnostic tests without having to go to the ER or be admitted to a ward.

    @lulu22: Whats the cardio scan?

Is anyone finding any unusual cravings these days?

I just discovered air popped popcorn with butter and salt is helpful to squash my nighttime nausea and heartburn! My DH thinks its terrible I'm eating a bowl of it every night but I try and remind him it's better than alternatives (chips etc).

ugh.. I thought I was on the upswing for nausea but I puked three times this morning. DH and I are suppose to have a little date night. I'm hoping I feel better by dinner time or it's going to be a pathetic date.

  40. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Banana330: I had cravings and aversion early last time and this time. This time my main craving has been meat, and specifically beef. Which is really weird because I'm not much of a meat eater generally and I didn't eat beef AT ALL until I was pregnant the last time when I randomly started craving hamburgers (which I hadn't liked for at least a decade previous). This time I've been eating meat with most meals and beef 2-3 times/week which is like... as much meat in a week as I usually eat in a month or more lol. But I figure I probably just need the protein.

I hope you were feeling better in time for your date! I've also been a bit up and down with nausea. I started feeling a lot better last week and at the same time I ran out of diclegis. Rather than get it filled I thought I'd be okay just doing unisom+ b6, but then I was pretty sick mon-tues so I filled the diclegis but I was still really sick yesterday and throwing up last night. Sigh. Today I felt a bit better. Hoping the diclegis is building up and working now.
