@ALV91711: Yeah! I'm nervous about tomorrow though since I hear day 2 is the hardest. And then he goes back to daycare on Monday and I don't even know their policies!
@QueensBee: I know, me too! I couldn't believe it when he went poop in the potty!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: hope he keeps it up!
@QueensBee: so sorry about the hitting. Hopefully this phase will pass soon.
@Adira: good luck! Sounds like he is off to a great start. Maybe DH or you can stay home on Monday? Give a little more time before he goes back to day care.

So after nap was rough. He wanted a diaper and just whined for a while. Then Hubs put him in one to go for a walk, so of course he went in it. But then he had it off again and went back to using the potty! So I guess we are trying Block 2 tomorrow...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: don't go back and forth with them. I think that is what messed up R in the beginning. Diapers just for nap and night. Hope today goes well!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, I told Hubs not to put him in one, but I was leaving and he didn't care, so he did it anyway. We'll see how today goes.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
So far we're at 50%. Three accidents in his pants and three times making it to the potty.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Pretty good! I think we had one accident after his nap, but otherwise, he was pretty good about making it to the potty! He even was able to stop peeing and hold it when he started going in his pants and get to the potty to finish. So I'm proud of him! No poops though (he went in his diaper in the morning before we got him up). Not sure what will happen at daycare today. I sent a bunch of underwear and pants and a note for his teacher, but I don't know what they will do (or even what Hubs will do). I think I'm going to leave work early today so I can talk to Xander's teacher about it.
How is R doing? She's on week 3 now, right?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: That sounds great! Hope today goes good! Did you send extra shoes?
She is doing good. She is having issues with pooping at day care. Doesn't seem to make it to the potty, when at home she takes herself every time. She had one pee accident this weekend, DH was home with her and lost track of him and she was running to the potty and started to pee as she was pulling her panties down. But I am really impressed with how well she is doing. She tells us she needs to go at least 50% of the time.

@Adira: Yay, good job Xander! That's how L was. He just told us he didn't want diapers anymore.

I can't believe how big my boy is all of a sudden. He's potty trained, he doesn't use a binky, he sleeps in a big bed, and he can ride a bike!!! My brother gave him their old bike with training wheels and all of a sudden he can pedal like a pro! I can't take all this growing up!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I didn't send extra shoes... we don't have any!! BUT he does have crocs at daycare, so hopefully they can just put him in those if necessary. And it's cool enough that he's in long pants, so hopefully if he does have an accident, it doesn't get to his shoes... though who knows. I'll have to ask the teacher about that too (and then go shopping)!
That's great about R!! Bummer about the pooping issue though. Especially since that's such a mess. Do you just throw the undies away when that happens?
@travellingbee: That's great!! How is he doing now? How long have you been potty training?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: Impressive on the bike riding. We need to work with R more on her trik. They are getting so big though. It makes me sad. And want another baby.
@Adira: Ha! R has so many shoes. We sent her in her water shoes for a couple days and then just went to her regular. Now we don't send a back up.
I have been throwing them away since she pooped in the morning and by the time I got them home they were nasty. I just didn't feel like messing with trying to get the poop off and get them cleaned. They are $7.99 for 7 at Target, so $1 a pair is till cheaper then diapers.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: Oh wow, he can ride a bike!! What!! Xander's still working on pedaling his tricycle, but he's getting pretty good at it. It's no bike though!
@Smurfette: Ohhh, good point about it being hard to clean after all day. Xander tends to poop in the morning too, so I have no idea what's going to happen... At least undies are cheap!!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Adira: hmm maybe we did it a month and half ago. He's great! No accidents, or issues! I still put him in a pull up at night but 90% of the time he wakes up to go potty. I don't love getting up with him but it's not like he's ever been a good sleeper....
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: That's awesome!!! We probably need to switch Xander to a toddler bed now so that he can go in the middle of the night if he needs to...
pomelo / 5621 posts
@travellingbee: Bike riding, wow, awesome. We need to get Isaac on his trike more so he can learn to peddle. These babies just aren't babies anymore, I can't believe how big they have become so fast.
@Smurfette: I would totally throw the undies away too. I can't imagine how gross that would be to deal with.
@Adira: How did he do at daycare yesterday?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: So his teacher didn't see my note until nap time, so he was in a diaper during the morning (although did go pee at least once on the potty despite that). After nap, she changed him into underwear and no accidents! She actually thought it wouldn't be an issue to go commando at school, but she was going to check with the Director. Fingers crossed that he does okay now that he's going to go all day without a diaper!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Did you DH not talk to them when he dropped him off? Glad that he went a half day with no accidents!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, I'm guessing Hubs did NOT talk to them. And I have no idea what he's doing this morning - I told him he could send him commando or in undies and he was all "I don't want to clean the car seat if he makes a mess!" So... I suspect he'll be in a diaper again.... bleh. BUT I ordered a couple of those car seat protectors, so once I get them, hopefully Hubs will stop using a diaper on him!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: yeah you need to tell DH no more diapers!! Take him potty right before you leave and he will be fine. Diapers are going to confuse him. They should only be for nap and night time. If you are going to go for it, go for it. I think that is why R didn't take to it right away, she knew she had diapers/pullups as back up. This time we told her they went to a baby that needed them.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, that's why I was worried about potty training in general - I knew Hubs wouldn't be into how much WORK it is initially. Oh well... at least Xander seems into it (for now). He was even upset last night that we were putting a diaper on before bed - he wanted to where his Thomas underwear!

@travellingbee: Yes they are getting so so big! We're currently having our driveway redone (seems to be taking an eternity), but once it's repaved, I'm hoping we can teach Pete to use a tricycle too! He currently zips around in the house, (and reminds us a bit of The Shining!) but doesn't know how to use the pedals yet.
@Adira: He is off to such a great start! Awesome that daycare is so on board! The car seat protectors are definitely worth every penny.
I think we've found a strategy that has helped with the hitting/kicking/headbutting this week. I have been saying, "You're hitting because you're mad that I won't let you... watch another Dora. You want to watch another one." If I can pinpoint what's making him mad, this usually get his attention and he pauses. "Hitting won't make you feel better. What can do that will help you feel better? Do you want to build castles together? Do you want to read a story together? Do you want a hug? Do you want a glass of milk?" He almost always chooses the hug option! Then we do a hug and talk about how hugs or talking about it can make us feel better when we're mad, not hitting, and he seems to go on his way! So much easier than the battles we were having last week. Hoping that this little dialogue continues to work...
I repainted the guest room this weekend and ordered new bedding. It's going to be Pete's new bedroom so we can put the baby in the nursery. Once the bedding and curtains come in, I think we can move him in the next week or two!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: yeah you both have to put in 100% effort. Otherwise it is too much for the other. R wants to wear her panties over her diaper every night. Whatever I don't care. Makes it easier when she comes into our room in the morning, we take her potty and then she already has a fresh pair for the day.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@QueensBee: @Adira: We haven't got the car seat protectors, but I was thinking about getting one for Thanksgiving, since we will have a 4 hour drive each way. And if we travel Thanksgiving morning, not much is going to be open to stop at. Which ones did you get?
@QueensBee: Glad that it is helping!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@QueensBee: That's great that you've found a strategy that's working for the hitting/behavior issues!! Sounds like you're teaching in a good lesson too and it's working!
@Smurfette: Yeah, maybe I'll tell Hubs to put the underwear on over his diaper too. Good idea.
We got this for the car seat: http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-Deluxe-Piddle-Black/dp/B004U7OQWW/ It hasn't arrived yet though, so no idea if it's good or not.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: we got a little portable potty for our car trip last month so if we had to make a quick pit stop, and there wasn't anything around, we could.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: I just can't......it grosses me out so much. What do you do with the pee and toilet paper?
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: we just dumped it in the grass and swished a bottled water in it. But he's a boy so he doesn't use TP. I guess you could put it in a ziplock to throw away.
ETA: I'd rather that than have to clean up pee all over the seat!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: I know you are right. but for some reason the travel pottys, just gross me out. I guess we will see how often she is going and how she can hold it when it gets closer.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
We got one like this that locks closed. http://m.target.com/p/my-carry-potty-cow/-/A-16871876?ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=16871876&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=google_pla_df&CPNG=pla_baby+shopping&adgroup=sc_baby&LID=9pgs&KID=73259a1d-dd3d-4bde-823d-1a7cfc807718&kpid=16871876&gclid=CjwKEAjw-IOwBRD1wrTC27fSjFISJABUDZ17MsnMF0h9XlimXFG4cAGs4l_tc3K5kgtnikP7O6lplBoCmYPw_wcB

@Smurfette: Not that you'll want it... but we also go this for Xander:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0016L0MMS
It comes with a couple bags so they can do their business in it and then you can fold the bags up (or do what @travellingbee: said and just dump it or let them actually go on the ground).
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
I am going to ask my friends what they do/did about this. I am 90% sure none of them had something like this. Just weird to pull into a parking lot, put a potty out, and let her poop/pee. But if we are traveling on Thanksgiving, we might have to.
pear / 1718 posts
@Smurfette: We have the same piddle pad as @Adira: . He hasn't used it yet so no idea if it works or not, but gives me some piece of mind!
We also travel with one of the portable potettes. It's pretty gross but he's used it for #2 a few times at places where we couldn't have found a restroom (on a hiking trail, in a parking lot on a long trip). I also find it gross bagging the poop and having to travel with it, but I try to remember we'd be doing the same thing with a diaper, it would just be packaged differently!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I'm a wimp, so I'd probably refuse to travel 4 hours until my kid could hold it that long, haha!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: He'll be potty trained in no time! Hope he continues to do good.
I'm going to start more consistently this weekend with it, maybe even try commando.
@Smurfette: I love that you told her a baby needed the diapers!
@QueensBee: That sounds like a good strategy, hopefully it will continue to work. Hugs are way better than hitting.
@travellingbee: That is the cutest little potty!
I'm kind of scared to full on potty train before our trip in November but I know we have to do it. We have 2 one hour flights each way and it will just be Isaac and myself.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: I'd be afraid of potty training and going on a flight too, but there's a good amount of time between now and then, so hopefully it'll be fine!
pomelo / 5258 posts
@ALV91711: LO has been in underwear for 3 or 4 weeks now. We flew yesterday and put her in a pull up. She didn't question it at all. I'm glad we did because she came down with a fever on the plane. She took an unexpected nap and would have totally wet her pants. Even without the fever I was not looking forward to taking her to the airplane potty. Two poopy diaper changes with the baby were enough.
We're now at the in laws and LO clearly has croup. I hope baby doesn't get it too. I have none of my sick kids supplies. Think healthy thoughts for me please.
