When I was in my first trimester, I had an ultrasound done every time I went. Now I am newly into my second trimester, and today I only had the doppler to hear the heartbeat (which sounded like a techno beat...weird). I think my next one will be at 20 weeks. Do you have an ultrasound done every time you go to the doctor? I feel like I missed out on something today.

No, I only had a few. They checked the heartbeat every time (I think)!

Nope, I had 3 throughout my pregnancy at the ultrasound practice associated with my doctor (never at the actual dr appointment) and we bought 2 elective 3D/4D's.

My doctor only does a dating one around 8 weeks and then the anatomy scan at 20 weeks. Even the 12 week NT scan is optional.

My ob has an ultrasound in his office so I had a look at bub every visit. He usually measured bub as well to make sure growth was on track.

I had one at each of the first couple appointments because my doctor had a hard time finding the heartbeat while the baby was young. After 16 weeks, though, it's just been the doppler aside from the scheduled NT scan and anatomy scan. We'll be doing a couple electives ones, too.

It should sound like a techno beat. Techno is set at something like 120 beats per minute, which would be in fetus territory

Unless we wanted testing (which I did), we only got one ultrasound at 20 weeks, unless something was wrong. I wanted testing so I also got it at 12 weeks. And I had some bleeding so I had a couple of ultrasounds early, and then one at the end because I was measuring big.

Not in Canada! I had two with my first and one with my second.

Nope, I had one at my first at 6w2d, and just the doppler for heartbeat at my 11w2d appt.
My next appt is at 14w2d and I doubt that I'll get an u/s then either. Then the next one will be at the 20~ish wk anatomy scan.

Dr has a ultrasound machine in her office so after she checks for heartbeat she asks us if we want to see LO.

I don't think it's typical to have one every visit, although I'd love that. Our office only does a 10-week dating ultrasound and the 20-week anatomy scan. Like PP said, 12-week NT was optional.

My first OB gave me an ultrasound at every visit which was fun until I got the bill. PPO insurance is pricey!

@autumnlove: yeah, it's crazy looking at what insurance is billed, even if you don't have to pay. My doc bills my insurance over $115 for the Doppler!!
Didn't have an ultrasound at every appointment - had several early on, the 20 week anatomy scan, one at 29 weeks but only because LO decided to not move and freak me out for 1.5 days, and then I'll have one more at 36 weeks only because LO is currently breach.

My OB had a small portable unit that he rolled into my early appts and would check with ( I also had te dating US and Aatomy scan separate from these visits). If the US machine was in a different room he'd just check with the Doppler

We had one at every appt. because we were going privately and the doc had one in his office.

My OB's office only does one at 10w and 18w unless you have complications.
We also had one at 6.5w because I had a prior miscarriage and wanted reassurance. And we had the elective 12w NT scan. Then I had some complications so had them at 30w and 32w.

Our office does one for dating (well at least for me since I didn't know/had irregular cycles), one at 12 weeks which I believe you can opt out of, one at 20 weeks, and I am having one in the third trimester.
