When we told our parents, we were 10 weeks and we asked them to please not say anything until we were ready to announce. My MIL told the whole world and when we confronted her, she said, "I couldn't help it, I was so excited!" Thankfully, my husband tore a strip off her.

In your case, I would have totally lost my cool on all of them! How rude!

That sucks, sorry that happened.

Luckily, our families aren't into social media.

Ugh, been there. I'm so sorry! Just remember who has trouble keeping quiet and you can wait to announce future pregnancy related things to them on a delayed schedule (my mom is on our list for this now unfortunately because she has ruined multiple pregnancy related moments)

Uhg, that's annoying. When we told immediate family I made sure to say that it was not allowed to leave that room, not to be put on social media and not to be told to anyone without ny permission. They probably thought I was being bitchy but ny SIL announced our engagement before DH even got off his knee. I wasn't taking any chances, it is our news to share

OMG this happened to us, AFTER we told them NOT to post to facebook. We told our parents and my sister, as well as my BFF pretty early on. A week after we told DH's parents, his dad put an announcement on facebook. Wow you forgot in a week we told you NOT to tell facebook. His excuse was "I thought you already told facebook". Well, if you would go and look at our page you would know we didn't. People use facebook for everything and it annoys the crap out of me. I found out my nephew passed away, my grandpa passed away and my niece was born through facebook. My nephew had passed away 14 minutes prior...REALLY people!? That's all your thinking of in that moment is posting to facebook about the death of a baby? Sorry that turned into something more than pregnancy announcements, but my point being people need to learn self control.

@Bao: I found out my great grandmother had 3 heart attacks in one night on Facebook. My mom had known for a few hours at that point and hasn't told her kids yet, but all my cousins knew. I was really mad. I hate finding out bad news on Facebook.

We told our family right after our BFP and put a gag order on everyone until the first trimester was over. That went really well until my sisters wedding (I was 6 or 7 weeks along at that point) and my overjoyed slightly intoxicated family started to spill the beans all night long as the party went on. I didn't want to make it about me (which is why I didn't say anything) but everyone found out anyhow. It wasn't the worst ever, but not what I envisioned either

That is so obnoxious! We were ADAMANT about telling every single person, "We are not putting this on facebook," and I'm shocked that no one did. MIL is notorious for not being able to keep a secret, so we made sure to tell her like, 5 times when we shared the news that she wasn't allowed to tell ANYONE. Not family. Not her best friend. No one. The minute she was allowed to tell people, our whole family knew in about 30 minutes.
Ugh, facebook.

Oh man I was LIVID when this happened. DH's family shared and so did mine, despite us telling them NOT to share. Then, of course, I m/c, and was even MORE angry. This time, nobody found out until 12 weeks, and some were annoyed we "kept it from them". UGH i don't know why people think it's OK to share!!!!!!

So sorry that happened to you! It is an awful feeling! My Mom told 3 people before we were telling anyone other than parents and siblings, which we made VERY clear. Needless to say we were pretty upset!

@Bao: OMG! I am so sorry to hear about your nephew I hate when someone passes and everyone's status is "RIP!"...I mean aside from generally Facebook etiquette, I feel like rest in peace looks more respectful than RIP!

We got lucky that everyone respected our news and ddint spill the beans on our behalf...id be SO pissed if someone had outted us!

My husband's family was really respectful when we asked them to keep it off-line...even though one BIL was bursting to share. I asked my dad and stepmom not to tell a soul, even my siblings, until we had. They respected it that time, but couldn't keep the actual birth off of FB. They announced it before we had a chance to, which really pissed me off.

But I guess it's just really hard for some people to keep good news quiet, so I had to try hard to let it go.
