I have my first ultrasound tomorrow at 8w1d. I feel like I should be super excited, and I am... But nerves are starting to take over. I'm just terrified they'll tell me something is wrong.

I was. But (not to freak you out.....) I wasn't supposed to get an ultrasound, just hear the heart beat. And they couldn't find it so they gave me an ultrasound. So obviously that's scary. Unfortunately I had a missed miscarriage. And then when I got pregnant again I was terrified for every doctor apt and ultrasound. But LO is here and super healthy!
Wishing you the best and hoping for a healthy baby and a strong heart beat!

Not for the first one, because I didn't know I was having my first u/s at 8 weeks. I was super excited for all the rest, although the excitement was always tempered by at least some degree of nervousness.

I was SUPER excited for the first one but really nervous for the second (NT) one.
I was nervous too but I was more excited to see that little bean to confirm that there IS a baby growing in there!

@Rubies: haha that sounds about right! Thank you for the good wishes : )

The very very first time I got an ultrasound, I was super excited (no nerves) until they found out I had an ectopic pregnancy. Every ultrasound after that made me nervous and excited at the same time.

@MamaMoose: Exciting!!!!
I was really nervous about my first u/s because I had bleeding the night before and went in for an "emergency" visit.
I'm sure your appt will go well!! Let us know how it goes!

I was so nervous before my 1st ultrasound. All the nervousness was unfounded because the ultrasound was 100% normal!
pea / 8 posts
I still get nervous before every ultrasound and appointment that I have and I am just over 20 weeks and feel her moving every day!
I think it is really normal to feel this way but every appointment and ultrasound I have had have been totally fine so no reason to worry at all! I am trying to relax and enjoy them now that I know she is good but there is still some worry/nervousness at the back of my mind!

I was really anxious before my first at 8 weeks. We weren't even supposed to get one until 10 weeks, but because of a recent miscarriage the NP got us in early to make sure everything was okay. I also burst into tears as soon as the tech said "there's definitely a baby in there, and there's the heart beating".

@FutureMrsMcK: I definitely think I will be crying in there whether the news is good or bad! I have had some friends tell me that their ultrasound techs were really insensitive and wouldn't really give any information at all so I hope a get a sweet one!

I'm a little nervous already. I REALLY want to hear that heartbeat soon!

Of course! I was so nervous until we saw that little heartbeat, then I was able to relax and enjoy it.

I wrote you a response and then it didn't post. Yes, I was nervous at my last two ultrasounds (6 weeks, when I thought they'd be like..uh, you're not pregnant lady! Why are you here? and then 12 weeks, when I was worried about missed miscarriages) and I think it's normal! I read one time that especially if you're experiencing no bleeding and what not, chances are your baby is developing ok in there, so I try to think that way. (Just like there is risk in every area of life but we try not to think of risks when they are small...) I know you'll probably be nervous til you get your ultrasound, but know that you are not alone. Wishing you the best, be sure to update us!

With my first pregnancy, wasn't nervous at all.... After losing that pregnancy, was nervous about every u/s with 2nd pregnancy.

I was just nervous because I convinced myself nothing was in there!

I was nervous because I have endo and was told that puts me at a higher risk for an ectopic pregnancy. I had a lot of painful cramping and spotting, so I was definitely freaked out of what they would see in there!
Everything was great though.
Don't worry yourself, everything will turn out great and you will love seeing your little gummy bear in there!

SUPER nervous, especially because I wasn't having any symptoms..I was convinced there wouldn't be anything in there. But there was @HabesBabe: Haha ditto!
Fingers crossed everything goes perfectly!

I was nervous before EVERY ultrasound before I could feel the baby move. I always thought I would get bad news....I think it's because I had a prior miscarriage and just assumed it would happen again. But, everything has always been fine : )
squash / 13199 posts
I agree with @winniebee: I was nervous before every ultrasound before I could feel the baby move, and even then I still hold my breath and say a quick prayer every time they try to look for a heartbeat...
The first ultrasound was scary because I was still in disbelief that I was really pregnant, and they couldnt see the heartbeat at first cos I had so much gas in the way. They had to use an intravaginal wand.

I was more nervous than excited ... up until we drove to the hospital.

I'm nervous before every ultrasound! Like @winniebee and @mrsbells said, I haven't felt the baby move so maybe once I do I'll chill a little.

My first U/S they weren't supposed to give it to me just find the heartbeat, but the doctor thought I might be further along after my pelvic exam and wanted to check. This made me nervous not excited since I was pretty sure I was right where they said I was.
That's when they found my cyst (which was the reason I felt further along.) After seeing the baby on the screen it melted my heart and everything else we took in stride! Good luck it's an amazing image, even if it's just a little "gummy bear" baby!

Ultra sound went great! Heart rate of 167 and measuring a couple days ahead of schedule at 8w3d. Obviously not out of the woods yet but feeling so much better! Thank you all for your support : )

@MamaMoose: YaY! So so glad that it went well and that you are feeling better!
I have my a/s tomorrow, so I get to see butterbean again. I have felt her kick in the last week, and that definitely helped to alleviate the anxiety about whether or not she is okay in there.

I think I'm nervous before every doctor's appointment for the baby. It just seems like miscarriages are way more common than I had ever thought and I am always terrified that they won't see anything or won't hear the heart :o(
My advice - make sure you ask the U/S tech what the procedure is... ours told us at our 2nd that she would be quiet for a little while until she got her bearings and to not worry. That was a huge help knowing that up front!
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@CarrieLouWho: Excellent advice. I let my ultrasound tech know from the start that I was super anxious because of my prior miscarriage. As soon as she got the wand in there she said "you can take a deep breath and relax because there's a strong heartbeat". I think those were the sweetest words I've ever heard!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@MamaMoose: that's fantastic! I am so glad it went well. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes just as smoothly!!

I was nervous, more because I knew it would be a transvaginal ultrasound. I was also worried that maybe all my positive pregnancy tests were wrong lol.

Im 5w2d and very nervous about my first appointment on Friday BC I suddenly don't feel pregnant anymore. Last week I felt very pregnant even before I got my first BFP. Praying that everything's fine and normal.

I was not nervous, but that was only b/c I as totally naïve. I might be more nervous if we conceive #2...
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
I'm excited, but a smidge nervous there won't be anything to hear or see. My first u/s is Friday when I'll be 8 weeks 1 day.
