I'm sorry, but I'm glad you can see the upside to the diet you have to follow.

I'm also trying to watch what I eat, mainly to help bring up iron levels. I'm failing so far - the spinach salad thing just isn't going to cut it.

@mrs.wagon: Dont worry! Potatoes might sit well with you! For some reason my body doesnt do well with potatoes but i have other GD friends that can eat them! Yes once u start testing you'll know what works for you. Dood... testing can get addictive! haha. I'm only required to test twice a day now but i seriously test at least 6-8 times a day! i kinda like testing (weird). lol

@banana: Potatoes usually work for me. cakes, muffins, sweets like that, I don't do so well with. You're right in that everybody's body is so different.

@maisymay: Sigh. Lucky. I love potatoes. I wish my body reacted well to potatoes. =\ Another thing that I can't eat is buckwheat noodles. My friends with GD eat buckwheat noodles all the time but I had 3 bites the other day and my glucose levels shot up 20 points....with just 3 bites! I heard buckwheat is the same class as potatoes so maybe that's why. DARN!

@banana: have you tried whole grain pastas? I went out to eat and had whole wheat pasta with baked chicken and a salad and my levels were pretty solid. What range does your dr want you to stay at/under? Mine is supposed to be 90 fasting, 140 post-prandial.

@maisymay: I've tried whole wheat pasta (had a cup) and my levels were like 160! I can eat a cup of brown rice and my levels will be around 110-120. My target is under 95 for fasting and under 135 post meals. My fasting has been in the 80-85 range and my after meal levels are usually around 120, except for those darn spikes!

@banana: My fasting is still too high, usually 115ish, but post-meal has been 90-130, fairly good. Have you tried tortillas, pita chips, or even corn chips to see how you react to them? Maybe the gluten-free pasta could help as well?

@maisymay: Corn tortillas do well for me (flour spikes my levels like crazy). I'll try the gluten-free pasta and see what happens!

Oh no! I haven't had my test yet - next week - but I feel for you. It's definitely for the health of the baby! Hang in there.
