I loved hand me downs. With three boys sometimes hitting a size at the same size I always took hand me downs and was very grateful.

I happily took the hand-me-downs from my friends, even the ones who had boys! There were probably a bunch of items LO didn't end up wearing, but i was grateful for the ton of onesies i had in the early months when we were going through 5-10 changes a day.
Some people are just weird about used clothing. I usually ask people if they want certain items and will give whatever it is they are interested in.

I have received a lot of used clothes from friends and I also try and reciprocate... But here's the thing... I only pass on clothes to my friends that are in excellent shape and definitely no stains. I also only pass on outfits (as in a shirt and pants that coordinate, or a dress + bloomers) because sometimes it's really hard to match later and you end up with a bunch of random stuff. Since i have been on the receiving end of "bag of random stuff", I would never do the same - it's such a huge pain! Only one of my friends has the same philosophy as me (and I love getting a bag from her because we have the same taste when it comes to kids clothes and buy the same brands). I just act very grateful to receive, ask if they need anything back, sort thru in private and donate the leftovers.

I love hand me downs. I grew up getting them from my cousin and I gave them to my younger cousin. It saves a lot of money. Anything I didn't like, I would just pass along or donate to Goodwill.

I would be happy and appreciative! I'm sure we wouldn't love everything but I'm sure there would be things I liked and would use. Baby clothes are expensive and they grow out of the clothes so fast.

Oh my gosh, I would have been thrilled! I am a huge fan of consignment shops, I can't tell you how often I shop at them and score so many designer items on the cheap. I have no problem with pre-owned clothing for myself, so I would never mind receiving hand me down baby items. Anything stained or in poor condition I just wouldn't use. Like others have stated, they grow out of them so quickly, it's nice to save some money.... even if it's not something you would have purchased initially.

@pastemoo: She's not pregnant so it probably wasn't hormonal.
I guess I was just taken aback because my other 3 friends were not at all offended (they were much more grateful) whereas this one friend of mine just seemed so "meh" about it. I only give away clothes/toys without any stains and that are very gently used. The more used stuff I donate to Goodwill or throw away (if they're in bad condition). And I know it wasn't a style thing because most of his clothes were from Baby Gap/Old Navy/Carters/Polo. I'm positive we shared similar styles. Maybe she just thought it was like "charity" or something. I dunno....=\ I kind of wish she would just tell me if she didn't want them because I have another friend who would've loved to take those off my hands.
