I'd go for it - $260 isn't a bad price, especially since you'll be checking bags!

I would do it! DH upgraded me to first class just for the comfort of flying with more space for one of my trips during second trimester. I LOVED it

I wouldn't do it if I had to take money that was earmarked for the baby to pay for it.

So I'm going to be in the minority here...I wouldnt do it. First class is a joke in the US I think. Yes the seats are a bit wider and may recline a little more but not worth $260. even checking a second bag should only be $50 - still saving $210. I dont think the difference between economy and first class on domestic flights is that much. If we were talking international and lay flat beds I would have a different opinion.

Not to mention - if they are offering it they have extras. So I'd just go to the counter at the airport and be shameless and ask if there is any way to get an upgraded seat (dont offer to pay necessarily) - you may just get one for free...I did that several times while pregnant and succeeded 75% of the time!

I would totally do it if you're still comfortable reclining. That was the most uncomfortable position for me and I would have been really upset to pay extra for a seat that could recline if my body didn't let me.

I never upgrade but in your case (flying alone, pregnant with twins, extra luggage, red eye), I'd probably splurge on it. Especially if you would have to pay a significant amount for extra bags anyway.

is the $260 one way or both ways? after the crappy 2 hour flight i had at 23 weeks, i would go for it and i'm usually the cheapo! i seriously almost had an anxiety attack about having to be on the plane any longer and feeling trapped.... and i'm a seasoned flyer.

ETA: i'd look at the plane type and see what i'm getting for my upgrade! you can see seats on seat guru for certain planes/airlines.

I flew at 16 weeks to Texas from California. I was miserable. Not having room to stretch or move around was not comfortable. Flew again at 20 weeks only an hour both ways and i was pretty done when I landed both times. I'd do it. They'll be much nicer to you and the extra room would really help i would think, you might even manage sleeping. What airline are you flying tho? As someone mentioned us air has terrible first class, with them it might not be worth it

$260 one way I'm assuming? I feel like for red eye it might be worth it. But I saw some posts saying depending on the airline some first class seats are not worth it, but I still think given your situation it might be worth it!

@bluestriped bee: yes it left at 12:30 am! I was so, so tired.

@bluestriped bee: I asked my OB about sleep aids for travel and her opinion was no...for a couple reasons. (I travel a lot for work...I went to Europe twice will expecting DD - and several domestic trips as well). Unfortunately at 25+ weeks (I think thats where you are) they worry about swelling - so my Dr said I had to basically drink a bottle of water for every hour I was in the air. This also guaruntees you are getting up to pee enough that things are circulating to help with swelling also. So keep that in mind - you pay for a nice cozy seat to sleep and then you are told by your Dr to move around every hour on the plane!

@bluestriped bee: Maybe instead of the money spent on road trip just splurge at a super nice hotel with a nice pool!

By the time you save the $50 for luggage fees its only a $200 upgrade which isn't terrible. But that is a lot for one night/one way.

Definitely worth it.

Tough choice! 260 seems affordable for such a luxury but I think in the end I personally wouldn't go for it since that is 260 dollars I wasn't planning to spend for that.

A sale on something that you would have otherwise not gotten is not a sale.
