@NeekieRose: The exercises themselves aren't that hard or strenuous, mostly keeping track of remembering to do them all is intense!

hi ladies! I am just catching up waiting for my GD test - seems like the best time to check-in. We officially moved from our teeny condo into a big new house. I set up our nursery, although I still dont have a basinette that fits with our bed height. Our current LO, however, still lives in the nursery and her big girl bedroom has nothing in it whatsoever and I have no real plans about what to do with it, lol. So I am not feeling very ahead!

I didn't read any books after the baby was born, because it was physically too difficult to read them while nursing, which was basically all I did! There are amazing parenting websites though, which I read all the time on my phone while nursing. For a nursing newborn, my favorite was kellymom. For sleep and other general parenting a baby things, I liked Dr. Sears' stuff, but he's AP so it depends on what you're in to.

@PawPrints: WHO HAS TIME FOR ALL THAT? haha

@Rockies11: ohhh congrats on the new house, that is so exciting. and must be nice you have time to get fully settled before #2 arrives. thanks for the recos re: websites. i can see me doing a lot of middle of the night googling once LO arrives!

@PawPrints: Ooh, thanks for sharing! That does sound pretty intense, but like some great exercises for you and to get ready for baby - I may try some!! Thanks again!

@loki: Don't stress - you're going to be totally fine!!!! Thanks for the explanation on the size and correlation to GD - my belly size has been spot-on, but just the last US was where I was measuring ahead. My GD test is on Monday, so we'll see soon enough!

@ineebee: Congrats on passing the test! Hooray!

@lulu22: I hear you on being overwhelmed by all the hospital classes - ours has TONS as well. We decided on one all-day labor and delivery class (9-4), a one-time breastfeeding basics class (3 hours/evening) and a one-time baby basics care class (3 hours/evening). I agree with the others to take the one(s) that you feel least prepared with. Remember though - you'll have lots of support after too, so try not to stress too much!

@Rockies11: congrats on the new house - so exciting!!

Ok, I'm so freaking tired!! The fatigue had hit me hard and smashed me. Ugh!!!

@lulu22: we're doing a two day class with the midwives. It's not til feb but if covers, general labour and delivery, pain relief, baby basics and breastfeeding I think. We'll do a hospital tour in feb too.. I'll probably do infant CPR with DH, I did a lot of lifeguarding in highschool/university and feel like it's time for a refresher.

Anyone else finding it painful/uncomfortable to walk? It feels like my hips are separating and it's killing me. Seriously painful going from sitting to standing and walking anywhere.. I'm not sure I can do 14 more weeks if they are like this.

  8. Rockies11

    persimmon / 1363 posts

@lulu22: we did a 10 week course that spanned the last 6 or so weeks of pregnancy and the first 4 or so weeks of newborn. it covered labour, birth, and baby care. I liked the social aspect, the baby care, and the fact that we drove from our house to the hospital, found parking, and went in, a whole pile of times before the big day. The labour and birth stuff I didn't find helpful in the moment, so I wouldn't take just a labour and birth class!

@Banana330: I've been getting muscle cramps in my lower abs when I go on walks with DH. I keep having to ask him to slow down. I feel geriatric.

@SunshineMcC @lulu22: We are skipping all the hospital classes and hoping that our Bradley class will sufficiently cover breastfeeding and infant care basics. I printed out a home guide on infant CPR for reference too. All the options are super overwhelming, like the class on introducing your baby to your dog(s) is one that it seems like we should take, but is it really worth the time/money? I kind of doubt it.

@Banana330: yessss i am constantly sore. standing up or sitting i look like an old man... even worse going from lying down on the couch to standing... i feel like i have been getting my waddle on a lot too. and i get a bit of soreness in my belly when i bend over like to pick something up. it is really sad because i keep thinking that it's just gonna get worse and it's already so bad! so i'm right there with you.

@loki: @PawPrints: I'm glad i'm not the only one... I think i'm going to have to get a support belt like a midwife suggested and actually wear it all day. Hopefully it helps a bit..

@anonysquire: Bed is ok, but going from sitting to standing, especially lieing to standing on the couch is painful. Last night I lay down on the couch to snuggle and pain started just lying there to I had to sit up.

@PawPrints: I actually did do the dog/baby class, and everything I learned there I could have learned by googling it, and I didn't actually end up doing any of the things they said to do anyway, lol.

@anonysquire: yess bed is torture... rolling over in bed is awful even.

@Banana330: ya sometimes i just can't get comfortable no matter what position i'm in. we have recliners in the basement and i have to get up and lie on the floor sometimes... and i have to always switch sides because my ribs hurt. this pregnancy thing is no joke!

@Rockies11: Ha, good to know! I figure we'll do the thing where DH brings home something that smells like baby for them to sniff, and it will probably make no difference at all. They'll just have to adjust.

  18. Rockies11

    persimmon / 1363 posts

@PawPrints: my dog is huge and totally nuts so I was really worried, and she immediately was totally into the baby with no problems at all. We forgot to bring the baby smelling thing home ahead of time!

@marionberry: @SunshineMcC: @Banana330: @Rockies11: @PawPrints: thanks so much for sharing your advice/thoughts/plans on classes! Super helpful, especially the idea of focusing on what you feel least comfortable with. I had a big chat with DH about this over breakfast today and I feel least comfortable with labor/delivery and breastfeeding while DH feels least comfortable with general everyday baby care... so I just booked in for a "first baby package" which includes 1 full day child-birth class, a half day 'newborn 101' class (for DH!) plus three 2 hour sessions: one on breastfeeding, one on relaxation techniques for labor and one on c-sections (might as well, just in case, and seeing as it's included in the package). I figure that should be more than enough to cover both my and DH's needs! And then we just found out that DH's work offers free monthly infant first aid and cpr courses and partners join! So that's kind of a bonus class we will do seeing as it's free and convenient.

I couldn't believe it though, the child-birth classes at the hospital are fully booked through jan and feb! So the earliest we could get in were the early/mid-March classes. Hopefully our little one doesn't decide to come more than 3 weeks early!!

@Banana330: @PawPrints: I've got muscle cramps in my lower abdomen when I walk too. Ugh. I make so many weird noises and grunts when i try to turn over in bed, DH keeps laughing at me!

My heartburn is turning into acid reflux this week as well and that really sucks!

Is anyone else having inner ear problems? Mine tend to be sporadic with very little reason. I'll feel fine, then have lots of pain in my ears with occasional headaches and slightly achy throat for a few days and then it goes away and comes back. I don't know if this is a pregnancy thing or not. I live in Texas so the whether can get pretty wonky and I've noticed that it does seen to usually happen when there's a huge temp drop but I've lived here my entire life and have never ever had this problem before. My ears are killing me!

@Mrs. Sunshine: no ear problems here but I have had a few dizzy spells during the day yesterday and today. Not fun, but they pass. I have an appt next Wednesday so going to check with my doc. Hope you feel better!

Had my 3-hour glucose test and my rhogam shot today and both went fine. So far no pain or burning or soreness from the shot, so maybe I got away lucky. I actually didn't think the orange drink was that bad, either. I guess by that point I was so hungry I was happy to get anything. Hopefully I'll get results in a couple of days.

@PawPrints: thanks for posting the exercises. I don't know what type of classes we're doing yet but those will be helpful regardless. Also, I had the rhogam shot without any discomfort too so hopefully that's the case after delivery too!

@Mrs. Sunshine: I think change in air pressure can bother people so you might be on to something there.

@loki: I hope you are enjoying your vacation!

    Hi ladies!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

DH & I spent nearly 3 hours at buybuybaby looking at car seats and strollers yesterday. Quite a process, but their staff were super helpful and we decided what to get, so they feels great!

Still deciding on a crib - going back and forth between the babyletto type that is consistent In height on all sides vs. one with a higher back side against the wall. Just not sure yet!

My glucose test is Wednesday so looking forward to getting that one of the way.

Anyone else dealing with acid reflux? Mine is really bad at night, I even have some chest/throat pain and pressure. Trying to prop myself up at night but it's not too helpful thus far!

    What's new with everyone??

  27. Banana330

    nectarine / 2317 posts

@SunshineMcC: the stroller/car seat thing was so overwhelming for us! It took a lot longer than I thought it would too.

I'm getting really bad heartburn from tomatos... it's annoying cause pasta sauce etc and fresh tomato gives it to me!

Our laptop died on the weekend, the charger cable just isn't working. it's 5 years old so it's time to replace but still an added expense we really weren't expecting!

@SunshineMcC: oh yeah getting heartburn over here too!

We bought a dual camera video monitor this weekens. Our audio monitor is a hand me down from a friend who also got it as a hand me down and two nights in a row it's turned itself off and I didn't hear LO wake up. I'm pretty excited, I always want to know what she's doing when I hear her in her bed talking.

I'm getting a lot of headaches these days. Nothing major just a constant dull aching. Not sure if it's pregnancy or if it has to do with my ears. I should probably bring it up to my doc.

I only spent like 10 minutes last week on Jessie's new room so I've set a goal for this week to work at least 20 minutes a day and have everything ready to go into storage bins by the end of the qeek. We'll see.

@SunshineMcC: I spent almost 3 hours at Buy Buy Baby this weekend, too!! An amazing, generous friend of mine (mother of 2, and hostess of my baby shower!) took me and pretty much told me everything I need, explaining the benefits of this and that, etc. I went from 1 item on my registry to 59! Huge weight off my shoulders.

DH has been struggling with either a bad cold or the flu, so I've been tending to my own needs (always! hungry! And registry shopping!) and his, so it was kind of a tough weekend.

@Mrs. Sunshine: I've had a headache this week too... mine is sinus related I think, I use to get pressure headaches from changes in the weather so I'm chalking it up to that.

@ineebee: hope your DH feels better soon!

@Banana330: unexpected costs suck! We just got a $2,000 physicians bill in the mail this weekend from my ER visit back in October

@SunshineMcC: good luck with the glucose test on wednesday! I have been having some reflux issues. I've been getting chest pain/pressure since about week 10/12 and still don't really have any answers on the cause (except we know it's not my heart) but my acupuncturist suspects it's heartburn. Lately I've just had an 'acidic stomach' and I know it helps if I avoid citrus or anything too acidic in the evenings.

Strollers and car seats are so overwhelming! We were very lucky to be gifted these things for Christmas, otherwise I would still be obsessing over them constantly! Now I can move on to obsessing about something else...

@Banana330: @Mrs. Sunshine: no good about the laptop or hospital bill! ugh! As if this time of year isn't bad enough, we've just gotten over the holidays and now need to buy baby stuff! @Mrs. Sunshine: could you try contesting the bill? I once got a hospital bill for $55,000 (!!) even though I had called the hospital AND insurance company multiple times prior to admission to make sure I was covered. In the end the hospital lodged an appeal to the insurance company and the insurance company admitted it was an "administrative error" and I paid nothing.

@ineebee: I feel your pain with DH having a cold. This happened to us over the Christmas/New Year period, and made me realize how much I need DH's help these days! Look after yourself and make sure you don't catch it!

@lulu22: I probably could and I need to. Insurance policies are very overwhelming to me and so I just don't want to call because I don't know what I'm doing lol we just got the bill on Saturday so I have time to figure out what all I need to do and hopefully have it sorted by the end of this week!

Just wanted to post an update that my ultrasound last Thursday showed my placenta is still good and no signs of placenta accreta!! The perinatologist said that it is possible that accreta could still develop, but usually it would have already done so by this point in pregnancy so we are *most likely* out of the woods. WHEW!!! Huge relief for my husband and I. Now I'm not worrying about a potential super, dangerous delivery. Yay!!!!

Anyone on here with an anterior placenta still not feel much baby movement? I'm over 25 weeks and only just started feeling movement a about 10 days ago and hardly feel anything. At the ultrasound I watched her move all over and felt nothing! With my son I had an anterior placenta, but felt lots of movement by this point in pregnancy. Weird!

@Jenn23: Yay for good news! I have been feeling stuff since 23-24 weeks but it was so light. Even now at almost 27w it's not consistant but much stronger when I do feel her.

@SunshineMcC: my heartburn the last 2 days has been out of control. Like if I lean forward I can feel acid climbing up my throat. It hurts. And the tums are not cutting it anymore.

@ineebee: hope your husband starts feeling better!!

@Jenn23: that's great news about the placenta. I must have missed it thiugh, why will your delivery be dangerous?? Hope that it's not!!

So my all day braxton hicks have turned into occasional contractions. I'm feeling like I did last year in early labor. And then just as suddenly aS it starts, it goes away again. I've been checked and I'm only 1cm dilated so I know that's not the problem. I guess just another excuse to have my husband do everything for me lol.

@Jenn23: That's great news! I have an anterior placenta too, but I can feel this little girl nonstop. I have also been able to see the movements on the outside for a few weeks. So she is just having major dance parties in there!

  38. meredithNYC

    pomegranate / 3314 posts

@Jenn23: I have an anterior placenta and am 26 weeks. I would say I only began consistently feeling lots of movement maybe within the last 7-10 days. All of the sudden it's like, WHOA! So you might be super close to the time when you will feel more.

  39. Jenn23

    persimmon / 1085 posts

@anonysquire: Placenta accreta causes massive hemorrhaging and can be fatal! It's a super scary thing. The placenta attaches deeply into the uterus so that causes major issues with both types of deliveries. If you are diagnosed with it, they schedule an early C-section and have blood ready (most women need blood tranfusions because they lose so much blood) and often you need a hysterectomy at the time of delivery. It's awful! Risk factors are multiple C-sections/other uterine surgeries and an anterior placenta. I have all of those so that's why they have been watching me closely.

Thanks, ladies! I'm so happy I don't have it! I hope to feel more movement soon!

@Jenn23: oh ok, I'm familiar with placenta accreta but thought you mentioned your doctor said you didn't have it. Sorry, need go reread your post. Prayers for a safe delivery and that everything goes smooth!!!
