@lil owl: welcome and congratulations!!
@OhCaptain: oh man nausea already! anybody know if it's genetic? like if your mother had bad m/s does that mean you will too?
@Torchwood: so glad you're cramping too, lol. I need to remind myself to think positively. just took another wondfo and it was basically the same darkness as 2 days ago, but that doesn't mean anything bad so I just need to chill!
@mrsjd: yaaay! Congrats on your ! I was wondering how you were doing!

@mrsjd: Congrats and welcome!!
@buttermilk: I freaked myself out last time worrying about wondfo darkness, so I'm trying really hard to control it. But I love taking more tests and seeing that line pop up!

@Torchwood: @MrsStar: @buttermilk: thanks
I'll go see my ob tomorrow. I'm already dreading going... but it's only blood work.
I'll meet with my mom's GP on Friday and have her check my blood, too. In that GPs practice works also an ob, maybe I'll ask if she'll see me...

@Mrs. J: we'll probably find out what gender. I have a history of genetic disease in my family, so we'll probably have an amnio again. and they usually tell you

@buttermilk: about the nausea: I had HG with my first and it's kind of genetic. While my mom had an easy pregnancy with me (she threw up once, and that was probably food poisoning) My dads mom and sister both suffered from HG. My aunt even lost her first because of it
pomelo / 5132 posts
@buttermilk: I don't think it's necessarily genetic. My husband's grandma threw up ALL 9 months, and MIL did not.

@buttermilk: I've heard that there's some evidence that you're at least more likely to have MS if your mother did. But it's nothing at all definite. My mom was very sick with me (her only kid), and I've never had any significant nausea (and no vomiting at all) with any of my pregnancies. And my cousin was hospitalized for dehydration due to vomiting several times during her (one) pregnancy, but her sister has 4 kids and has never had any issues at all.

@mrsjd: @lil owl: Congrats and welcome!!!
@buttermilk: My mom had bad morning sickness with one kid, but not the other. Mine was very mild with my first and I'm hoping I get lucky again, but I guess it could go either way.

thanks to everyone for chiming in on the MS. i think my mother had nausea but never real vomiting, so i guess i'll have to see what happens!

@Mrs. J: Yes. School just dismissed and I'm sitting in my comfy rocking chair about to fall asleep. Chasing after a toddler is exhausting, but keeping up with 18 four/five year olds is crazy. I need a nap!

@Mrs. J: me too! But last time I had only myself and my desk job to be responsible for. Now it's my 2.5 year old and the two other boys (3 and 2) that I nanny for!

@Mrs. J: I'm with you too on the exhaustion, and I don't have any excuse at all. I'm barely working (just 6-8 hours a week volunteering at the library), but I'm sleeping 12+ hours and still passing out at bedtime. I just don't remember being this tired before.

I am both excited and nervous to join you ladies in this thread. I didn't think our chances were that great this month, so I was too scared to join the POAS thread. I woke up to a pretty clear BFP this morning, and even though this is something I've wanted for a long time, I'm still freaking out a little.
Location: Georgia, specifically Atlanta
EDD: August 16
How far along: According to FF, I'm 3w5d.
First child? First child and first pregnancy
First doctor appointment: I will call them later today. My husband wants me to go as soon as they will let me because he's a bit skeptical of the home tests. I think he was a bit in shock.
Any symptoms so far? I had convinced myself that I was out this month because I wasn't feeling any real symptoms. I've had some incredible gas and bloating, and my face broke out, but those could be signs of PMS.
Then yesterday, I started having this dull ache lower in my stomach that feels like a cross between gas pains and AF cramps. It's still there today. That's mainly what made me test this morning. Plus, I was so bloated, my pants were already feeling tight, and I've had a constant full stomach feeling the last few days. I also had a couple of weird muscle twitches in my stomach yesterday randomly when I move or breathe.
I normally would have started spotting by now, as AF is due in a couple of days, but I haven't. Totally TMI, but I've also had a couple of instances the last few days where I can feel a lot of discharge but I don't see anything when I check on it.
Who have you told? Just my husband. I had originally thought about not telling him until he got home from work this evening, so he wouldn't be as distracted all day as I am now, but he was awake with a cold when I had to get up early this morning to use the bathroom.
My husband's company Christmas party is tonight, so this is just in time to not have a drink.

@Mrs. Microscope: Glad you're feeling confident enough to join in! Gotta love the nice dark lines that FRER's have, instead of the rather sad cheapies, right?
@krispi: Welcome and congrats! My husband's company Christmas party is tomorrow, so I'm right with you on not drinking! I don't normally drink much though, so hopefully no one will question it.

@krispi: @Mrs. Microscope: welcome and congrats!!
I've so far managed to get through a BYOB dinner (i put non alcoholic wine in a screw top wine bottle) and my plan for a party next weekend is to fill a beer bottle with water. Our friends would notice me not drinking, even though I'm not a heavy drinker!

Just got off the phone with my insurance company (who picks the hold music they use? Is it intended to just be universally annoying?), and it looks like there's a good chance we can get a screening (like Panorama or MaterniT21) approved. Normally they wouldn't cover it for someone my age (29), but with my history they should. Now fingers crossed we can get Panorama approved before the end of the year. I've hit my out of pocket max (it is done by calendar year, right?), and it can be done at 9 weeks, which I hit the last week of December.
I'm really hoping it gets approved, but my main reason is silly. I just really want to find out the sex asap. Like I mentioned before, I need some time to process how I feel about it either way it goes. Plus, it really helped me feel more attached once we knew last time. So even though I was originally adamantly team green, I'm now the person hoping to find out before the first tri is over. Gah! I loved being TG, but it doesn't work for us now.

@Torchwood: I hope you get to do it too!! I did MaterniT21 with LO because my first pregnancy was miscarried due to a chromosomal abnormality (Turner's Syndrome). Insurance decided not to cover it, but we still only had to pay $200 out of pocket. I'm going to ask for it again this time. I loved knowing that he was a boy at 13 weeks (and it immensely helped my anxiety knowing that everything checked out chromosome-wise).

@Torchwood: @Mrs. J: Thanks ladies! I am so happy to join you all!
@Mrs. J: I am worries about a happy hour with friends next week, especially since one of them is watching me like a hawk for pregnancy symptoms! I think I am going to have to use the headache defense, saying i took some tylenol and don't want to fry my liver!
@Torchwood: I hope you can squeeze that test in this year! AND that you get good results and can breathe easy this time!

@Mrs. Microscope: Thanks! Meeeee tooooo. Need all the good news we can get!
kiwi / 696 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: my friends would never by a Tylenol excuse! I told my girlfriends last weekend at girls night. They all would have noticed I wasn't drinking, and they all would have guessed pregnancy no matter what excuse I gave. I'm a horrible liar, so I just told them.

@Torchwood: @Mrs. Microscope: Thanks! I think I'm still in shock.
I called my doctor today, and it was hard to say "pregnancy" when she asked the reason for the appointment and then talk about how far along I am. My appointment is scheduled for 12/17, and I think I'll be 5w3d. She said the earliest they would see me was 5 weeks. She didn't really give me a lot of detail about the appointment but made it sound like it won't take long. The website for the doctor's office has a line about an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy and viability - I'm not sure if that's done at this appointment or later. I am 36, so maybe they'll go ahead and run some tests since I'm older. It would be nice to have something to share before Christmas.

@krispi: @Mrs. Microscope: Welcome and congrats!!!
@krispi: Yay! You usually won't see much on an ultrasound before 6ish weeks, except maybe the sac. I had an ultrasound at 6w4d last time and we saw the baby and the heartbeat. This time, I'm going in at 7w3d.

@Mrs. Microscope: Congrats!
@krispi: Hey there! I thought I would check out the action on HB and I see you are over here as well! Congrats again!
@lil owl: I might be a little late, but congrats and FX for a healthy growing baby!
I have been having on and off mild cramping for a few days now accompanied by 'dampness' down there. It is so unsettling. I've also been hungrier more often and tired (but this totally could be from keeping up with 29 very active 4 year-olds!). I haven't really had another other symptoms. I also had worse cramping last night accompanied by some brown spotting. I've spotted some more today, but it was extremely light, and a flaky brown. I just hope this feeling goes away soon.
Has anyone else had symptoms like this? (I know there are quite a few 2nd time mothers on here) If so, how long did it last?
I got my first hcg back and it was good (in the 200 or 400's I think, the girl I talked to said they were normal for a fourth week pregnancy), and I took my second draw tonight. I should get those results on Monday. It will be nice to know that my body is doing what it should be!

@auggiefrog: Are you a pre-k teacher, too?! My symptoms are basically just exhaustion and being hungry allll the time. No nausea, yet!

One more question for you girls. I have my first prenatal appointment scheduled for the 30th. I know I meeting with my doctor's nurse for about 45 min, and my doctor for about 30 min. I'm not sure what they are all doing. Do you have to request ultrasounds? I'm just going to a primary care clinic, are they even going to have an ultrasound machine? I'm so clueless about all of this. I can't wait until the 30th to get more answers.

@lilteacherbee: Right now I'm student teaching in a 4 year old kindergarten classroom. What age/ grade are you with?
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@auggiefrog: I teach 4 year olds in a state-funded pre-k. All my babies are classified as "at-risk." I work at the same school where DH teaches 3rd grade
pomelo / 5607 posts
@auggiefrog: I would be surprised if your office had an ultrasound machine, unless it's really fancy. My midwives don't even have one (they send you to an imaging specific office), so I wouldn't really expect it at a primary care doctor. At my first prenatal appointment that I ever had, they really didn't do much other than confirm with me when my last period was, tell me what to do/not do, and answer any questions I had. But that definitely wouldn't take over an hour like you have scheduled, so surely they have more in mind? And some doctors automatically schedule ultrasounds, others need a little more prompting from you, so I guess you'll find that out at your appointment. Also, I had cramping off and on for at least the first tri last time (staying hydrated can help), and the increased cervical fluid (thus dampness down there) never really went away while I was pregnant. Seems about the same this time.
@krispi: Like @lilteacherbee said, you wouldn't see much on an ultrasound that early so they usually wait. Like I said above, for my first appointment there wasn't a whole lot to it. I honestly think that for that very first one I had, with my first pregnancy, they just wanted to come have me pee in a cup to make sure I was actually pregnant and not just saying I was. (Since then OB's and midwives seem to assume I know what I'm talking about, since it's not my first pregnancy.) They might do betas too, but mine didn't offer those till after I'd had a loss.
kiwi / 696 posts
@auggiefrog: I'm assuming they are going to talk a lot about the do's and donts of pregnancy and maybe draw blood. During my first pregnancy they asked a lot of family history questions and did a pap. That appt was around 7 weeks, and they did a vaginal ultrasound. That was an OB office and they had an ultrasound machine, but not all do.
Thus time around I'll be swing a midwife at a birth center and my first appointment isn't until 10 weeks! But they did do an early (free!)!ultrasound when I went to do a tour/consultation! I was 5w3d and she barely picked it up on the regular ultrasound

I've been in an irrationally terrible mood the last few days (combination of hormones, DH working a ton of hours, and just usual mood swings this time of year), so DH just came home with a Wii U. I *might* be spoiled. Though we've been talking about that or a PS4 for a while, since we use the PS3 for almost all of our tv watching, and it was time for an upgrade. But he went with the Wii U for me, since he thought I'd like it better. So excited!
